Im trying to be a medic and they say, nice, after the army you can use it. I dont think i want to after combat.
@fraustpunk29 күн бұрын
Last I checked, you can get your EMT 1 in 2 months, which is the main civilian cert that medics get, plus all of the extended scope you can only do in the military. Fun fact, for most real "medic jobs," on the civilian side you will be expected to be a Paramedic, and often a cross trained Fire Fighter. All doable if you want to start as a volunteer EMT. I had the fun encounter once with a Guard Baby Medic that was trying to walk me (a grunt) through an anckle wrap after letting his cert lapse. He was a douche so I enjoyed shutting him up when I made it clear that I was an active running EMT and he didn't even have a combat patch. My ego aside though, I would ultimately avoid doing combat arms your first contract just so you can make sure the military is right for you. If you go combat arms and end up deployed it's going to greatly impact the rest of your life, and yeah, it has very little applicable civilian crossover. Being a medic on the civilian side WAY different though. When I was in, we were taught in basic to give needle chest decrompessions like they were just another thing. Even a paramedic can't give a NCD without a Doctor on the phone.
@Wareagle920314 күн бұрын
@@fraustpunknot entirely accurate. Depends on the state that determines the scope of practice. We do surgical thoracotomies in my system for traumatic cardiac arrest. We still needle decompress but studies have shown its benefits negligible vs a simple thoracotomy. And as well. TYFYS.
@fraustpunk13 күн бұрын
@@Wareagle9203 I was talking about for a sucking chest wound, on the military side. I've also been out of the medical field for a decade, so I wouldn't be surprised if anything I said is no longer applicable. Thank you for the info though. and you're welcome.

The infantry sucks, yeah. But guess what? When we look back on past wars, people don’t talk about the cooks, the mechanics, the paper pushers. They talk about the guys who stormed the beaches, closed with and destroyed the enemy. I joined the infantry to fight the enemy; and then I let the government pay for my college afterwards. Might not have gotten “real life” skills from the infantry, but every employer sees that on my resume and it’s helped every time. Also to reiterate, the government literally paid me to get “real life skills” after I got out. Be a sidewalk sweeping, toilet cleaning, trash picking warfighter or you’re a loser POG.
