Finished up the exterior of the wash/pack station, did some plumbing planning and I talk about why I ordered baby chicks.

Josh, an AMAZING trick for cooling off a sheetmetal structure: a garden hose and sprinkler. Simply use the sprinkler on a low setting, spraying any exposed metal (mostly the roof) - doesn't have to be a lot, just enough to keep the metal wet. I discovered this while packing parachutes inside a metal airplane hangar in Florida; the temperature could jump up to dangerous levels - 130+ degrees F during the summer and you could literally feel the heat radiating down. We just used a standard oscillating "rainbow arch" type sprinkler set low enough to cover just the roof. It would drop back down to outside ambient temperature in just a few minutes.

Thanks Josh for another update. I just hope that you and all your viewers can see the necessity of growing as much as our own food as possible and to be as self sufficient as possible also. People, we are in for a long trying time. From all i can see is that things are going to get worse. Not trying to put fear in anyone, just trying to light a fire under you to be ready for what comes our way. And Trust in the Lord to see us through. Walk with Him.

@Alan We do! I sell to 3 grocery stores and everyone I talk to is expanding and adjusting as requirements/demands change. I just ordered a juccuzz air pump yesterday for a greens bubbler, to open up another avenue of market for me. This was inspired by watching Josh's video's, plus looking at my huge crop of young lettuce growing and wondering how I could wash the harvest. Yep, challenges can take you down or motivate you. It's all in your attitude that determines what you can accomplish.

Another great video. Just wanted to thank you for the tip about seed companies. I was able to place an order and have it shipped just before they started to delay ship times and restrict orders to commercial farms only. I will be looking into chicks as well. Thanks again and take care.

What you can do to cover the side of your wash area is to use 80% to 90% shade cloth. So the heat will be less in wash area.

Harvest in the morning or like Curtis did at one point, in the evenings when it was crazy hot in the day. Were you capturing the wash water to use on site? Bobblehead said something similar, ppl buying 2 or more weeks worth of food is not panic buying, its being prepared so you don’t need to go out as often. It makes sense that IF you can do that then you are safer and then those that can’t mass buy are not as crowded. I wish we had as many chick places here like you do in the US. One selling model, saw it on another post, was to have one open ‘box’ for display and then premade boxes/bags of exactly the same items that ppl could pick up. Having open food right now makes many ppl worried about strangers handling stuff. Thanks for these videos Josh, much loved!!!!

Thanks! I really think this model could work in new neighborhoods as well. Why not design a development around sustainable food production? It’s starting to make more sense given everything that’s going on. As a property investor this is really starting to resonate with me! Keep up the great work!

Jeanne Whitaker that’s a fantastic idea Jeanne. Since most urban developments are required a certain amount of “green space” built in to the development, I believe if a developer designed a neighborhood around the older farm house style homes with a central garden area in the center of it so that each home is no more than a few minute walk and wagon pull from home and each home had their own dedicated garden space which would be transferred with the sale of the home, I think 🤔 it would be extremely desirable to folks and there is a need for that type of community. If a community also started putting a bit more focus on planting edible landscapes also by planting blueberry bushes in areas where they normally plant azaleas and boxwoods and plant herbs in among the annual flowers that it could still be beautiful but could also go a long way to help teach our children and adults as well where our food comes from and it could , if designed and planted properly, still be just as beautiful as it is with the normal landscape design. I really wish I was still building today and I would take this idea and run with it but we will need the younger developers to step up now and do their part to carry it thru to fruition. This could also be adapted to existing, established neighborhoods quite easily as well. This is such a fantastic idea Jeanne, I really hope someone out there sees this and will grab the ball and run with it!! Good job Jeanne, I’m proud of ya for throwing out such a fantastic idea!!!

Don Pfeiffer my son in law is a developer and I’ve been bouncing this off him as well. It’s a niche in the market, for sure, and entirely do-able. Imagine an HOA that actually gives its members something useful! Can I email you and ask you “builder questions?” The more I think about this new property the more questions I have!

Since you already have some fans and a water supply in your wash station you could add some misting nozzles to help with the cooling during hot days. I use them in my outside dog kennels and they work great. Give it a try you won’t be sorry.

I noticed you haven't done many videos lately on microgreens, have you stopped growing and selling microgreens? Thx Josh and keep the great content coming! Not sure about the two hatcheries you talked about, I do know about metzers but never heard of the other one. We use Hoover's Hatchery out of Iowa, my daughter got ducks from them 2 years in a row and one year she had one of her Welsh Harlequin Drakes go Grand Champion Waterfowl at the county fair. The next year one of her Pekin Drakes did the same thing, only the judge had a very hard time between the two that she had entered. Her third and final year she did LF Light Brahma chickens but she didn't get anything as hers were hatched in April and she was competing against January hatched Cochins who came from a very successful show breeder. All four hens are now backyard bug patrol, egg shooting (one loves to lay her eggs outside..ugghhhh) machines for us LOL. We average nearly 3 eggs per day, and the ones we can't use (there is only 2 of us here) I donate a dozen to a family or two in need depending on how many I have on hand.

That was a ramp to be able to wheel equipment and stuff up on the pavilion. It never really made sense where it was because the end of the ramp was in the dirt. We will eventually build a new (removable) ramp on the front and then it can be accessed from the paved driveway.

@@XaViEr3520 It looked stable. I've done much worse... and I did fall of a ladder a few weeks ago, so I'm in no place to judge.... but.... it's not what you'd call a professional construction setting is it? I'm very keen on health and safety in a professional environment for obvious reasons yet whilst at home or at leisure you can be less careful I guess.. At the moment, where I am, you could be fined for being within two metres of someone.

XaViEr3520 well it sure is good that we don’t have safety managers on small farms then isn’t it. Josh did ensure everything was solid and stable and while it isn’t the ideal situation, we have to do what gets the job done on small farms. And while I’m all for being as safe as possible, you have to admit that we’ve allowed this crap with safety to get out of hand a bit over the years!! It’s really ridiculous In a lot of ways what steps you have to take to do a 5 minute task anymore. This country never would have gotten built and become what it is today had we had safety managers 150 years ago. It’s time folks start accepting personal responsibility for their actions again and stop blaming others or equipment, or such for getting hurt when every single accident almost comes down to personal accountability (almost)

My hybrids have proven so much more enjoyable than the 'fancy chickens' - had - they're far more friendlier and don't run off and hide like the pure breeds. Every day the hybrids come up to me and are inquisitive - yes they're mostly thinking of their bellies - yet personally I'm far better off with hybrids than fancy birds.
