WHY DID I SELL MY BMW M140I AND BUY A BMW M2?

In Today's video I'm going to talk about why a bought an m2 out of all the other cars on the market and how does it compare to the bmw m140i that we all love dearly. For me i think it's the next logic step after owning an m140i as it is pretty hard to find a car that ticks so many boxes. I moved from a 3 door zf m140 to a og m2 6mt that I’ve owned for 6 years now and still absolutely love it. I did have them both for a few weeks or so while I was waiting on the sale of the m140i and drove them back to back plenty of times. My 140 had birds b1 suspension, all the m3 control arms,rear subframe bushes and lsd full geo ect, and still couldn’t touch the stock m2 in regards to handling, steering response and the that direct feel from the rear end that gives so much more confidence to take corners at speed and drift. In the look’s department not once did I have anyone comment on the 140, even being 6years old the m2 still has people asking what it is and saying how good it looks or sounds. Since owing it I’ve had the litchfield AST suspension kit, and Stage 2+ and it’s quite simply perfect as it is and no plans to replace it any time soon.

M140i to M2 - the obvious upgrade, and one which I would do myself if I could afford to. Well done matey. My M140i is a 2017, so no PPF, and a safe remap to 411bhp/576nm, it's fast enough but obviously in the corners it aint no M car hahah !

I just drove one and was underwhelmed at the power compared to my m140i, I was shocked at the difference. The noise though, a million times better!

If you really had just drove one you would immediatly notice how superior of a car it was compared to the m140 in every way. The m140 might be almost as quick as one in a rolling race but they are far from an m car. I think people forget an m140 is just a 120i with the m sport suspension option ticked and a b58 block. I upgraded from an m235i because within the first 50 yards of driving a proper m car it was immediatly noticable how much more rigid, wide and better the car felt to drive. Not sure how you could be "Shocked" at the diffrence when they are both similar power on paper the m2 only being a fraction quicker 0-60. You get a proper diff, proper arms, solid mount rear subframes from an m3. m3 front subframe, much wider wheels and body for a bigger foot print, forged engine with mutiple oil pumps to stop oil starvation on track, larger brake discs, DCT gearbox which is faster shifting and gives a far superior feel to the standard zf box in all the basic models which the m140 shares. Its just better ever way you look at it. Im sure if you throw 10-15 grand at an m140 you could bring it up the spec on the m2 but it will always just be an m140 and not an m car. The value of them drops quickly. Thats what made my decision to upgrade personally.

@@strongerandwiser2023 I didn’t mention anything about the handling. Only the power and noise. Of course the M2 is better in every other way, it’s a million times better at cornering, it feels sharp and pointy. The point I was making was exactly as I stated, it’s shocking how much slower it feels compared with the b58 m140i, and that’s a shame.

@@12988Jake Its not slower though? I noticed hardly anything between them. Its got more power and puts it down better. But they are very close though. If you watch archie hamiltons video of them racing from a dig, and multiple roll races you will see that they are almost identifcle in performance. The only reason the m140 stays with it is because the torque is slightly higher but apart from that you wouldnt notice any performance diffrence between the pair. The m2 would be alot more aggressive in the shifts though.

Brilliant video again, yea forget the m140, you wouldn't give a 140 a second look when driving past, could be mistaken for a 120d,i own an bmw m2 and where ever I drive, people are always staring at it, they look the nuts, best looking m car out there today, and it's the way it makes you feel when driving, if you were a 10 year old kid and asked to draw a car for your bedroom wall they would draw this the stance wide aggressive arches snarling front end what more could you ask for.

Picking an OG M2 up next week, chopping in my Guilia Veloce. I had a140 a few years ago, great engine but even with a Bilstein B14 kit it wasn’t a great handler.

I'd love to buy a 1 series m sport but the only issue is car insurance. I'm paying 1.7k a year on a vw polo 1.0 litre with a blackbox at age 19

Mate that’s normal! Insurance is just so expensive, more things to look forward to when you get older. I had a polo as my first car and was paying like 2.5k for insurance

@@realtorque i'm looking to go from a 420d to either M2 or S3 saloon but the insurance is impossible, i'm paying 2600 on my 420d with no blackbox. I'm 24 and held my license for 3 years. Literally all quotes are 4k+ with blackbox. Should I wait until I am 25 and check insurance quotes again?

Nice car mate. I considered it, ended up with the M140i as it was sub 40.5k tax bracket and couldn't justify the additional rate on the M2 for essentailly a very similar car. I've got an OPF car, remus exhaust on it transforms the sound.

I’ve gone from an M140 to an M2 comp. the only similarity is dyno output of the 140 is tuned. The M2 is soooo much better. Test drive one and it will be easy to justify. You will see where bmw put the extra money

Its a vastly superior car the m2. The m140 is a entry level car with a fancy engine dropped in. The m2 has every component upgraded from suspension, to gearbox, to differential to massively wider footprint and tyres. The few hundred quid a year extra is well worth it.

Made the exact same jump. I’m down on power due to my 140 having 440bhp and my M2 has been mapped to 400. But the driving dynamics are chalk and cheese. N55 sounds so sick aswell compared to the comps.

It is night and day difference isn’t it! What’s the power delivery like on yours? And is it just me, but my car makes a small clicking noise when start stop is on and off. I assume that’s based on it going into park

@@realtorque mate my first few weeks were a nightmare. Collected the car and within my first 2 days I had problems with an amplifier which threw loads of problems up with the I drive etc (no navigation and no sound) so for a few weeks whilst BMW ordered parts I drove around just listening to how the car works. Lots of little noises, Clicking and slight clunk in traffic (DCT does no like stop start traffic at all 😂) and a very slight whine when pulling away in 1st up to around 1500rpm. I thought “what the F have I bought here” booked it in at BMW and they had it for 2days to inspect everything and the report came back saying it was a great example, all the mechanical noises where as they should be, the whine is normal for DCT boxes. They even offered to let me use an M2 competition for the day to prove it was normal. It hasbeen serviced on time etc and was in perfect order except the telematics issue and amplifier. So yeah long story but the noises which sound similar to mine are normal. They just told me to just enjoy the car and 4 months on it’s an absolute treat!

@@realtorque and the power delivery of the map is really smooth, does like to light up the rear tires in anything but a bone dry surface, but pulls hard right up to near 7k and the main difference is the torque, up 65lb ft which makes the most difference!

@@AlexSeddon11 bro that has properly put my mind at ease! Mines is the exact same, I was like what on earth is going on here. Cold starts are horrible when driving in the morning car is so jerky. But all traits of the DCT. Glad you’re happy with yours as I love mine!

Im looking at getting an LCI M2 with the n55 engine. What are the different/best options to get on one? And whats the deal with the tax on these? I love my M140i with the Remus exhaust. Everyone has his own opinion but I wouldn't pay so much more for the performance gain, but that's just me.

Have you tried the m2 comp? I really can’t decide what id want in a year or two since monthly payments are sort of similar, I don’t know I think I’d have to just choose between the engine most importantly and just however the specs are
