I own both a Glock and a SD40ve and I feel like there are a lot more reasons to like the SD over the Glock. The grip on my Glock isn’t as comfortable as the SD40, I prefer the 8lb trigger over the Glock because it feels more comfortable carrying. The S&W also eats every single cartridge I put in it, the Glock jammed up on the aluminum and Steel cased. Plus having a gun many people hate on just makes it 10x better to own😂

The original Sigma pistol were the SW40F, SW9F and the SW380. I bought an SW40F back in 1995 and still have it in my safe. This were the ones that made Glock sued S&W. Then few years later S&W redesign the pistol to comply with the law suit and giving it the SW40VE and SW9VE designations. The barrel was reduced to 4 inches from the original 4.5 inches and some cosmetic changes were made. Still this didn't satisfied Glock. I also still own a SW40VE. Some years later finally S&W settled with Glock out of court, S&W dropped the Sigma line altogether and came out with SD40VE and SD9VE series completely redesigned the sear mechanism and over all looks of the pistol. I also own a SD9VE. Now with all this being said let's get into the trigger. There is nothing wrong with the trigger! The Sigma series of pistols are double action only trigger pistols. The idea was to appeal to law enforcement agencies who were transitioning from revolver to semi automatic pistol in the early 90's. There concerns at that time was preventing unintentional discharges. This is why the Sigma series had a heavier trigger pull to compear to a revolver. Now owning all of this pistols I can tell you for a fact that most of the stories of a 14 to 20lbs trigger pull of the Sigma pistol are all lies. My SW40F have never been altered and the trigger pull is anywhere between 6.5 to 7.1 lbs and that is exactly the same on my SW40VE. Now on my SD9VE I bought it used with an Apex trigger and the trigger pull on it is 3.13 to 4.2lbs. All of them are reliable and go bang every time. That Sigma SW40F is now 27 years old and had fired anything I've fed it even aluminum case ammo. I now keep it as an antic and don't fire it any more. Same goes for the SW40VE I now keep it as part of my S&W polymer pistol history collection, I am only missing an SW99 to have a complete collection.

Thanks for the info! I live in a stupid state, our triggers were 11+ pounds in our SD9VE, and I can attest to that. My shield and SD9VE WERE THE SAME - over 10lb each, but the SD felt worse because it had a longer pull than the shield. I put the apex spring kit in both, now the SD has about a 6lb trigger, still long pull but I like it, and the shied is about 5.5 with a slightly shorter pull.

The SW9VE was the first pistol I ever bought, back in 2001, and it is still going strong today. An Apex trigger in it is an absolute must and turns it from a kind of mediocre gun into something halfway decent... still not as good as a Glock, but more than serviceable. It used to be my everyday carry before I could afford a proper Glock and served me very well

Great gun. Feeds everything I've thrown at it, including critical duty 135gr+p. Its consistent and it shoots straight. Can't wait to get out of this crappy state so I can run 16+1. The grip could be better, but some stippling helps a ton. Worth every penny so far.

I’d guess it’s pretty corrosion resistant thanks to both barrel and slide coming in stainless steel. Easy to see dirt too. That and $400 - and taking 16 rounds - are pretty compelling. I think it’s going to feel pressure from the dual magazine (short or tall with a spacer) micro nines for example the Masada Slim and FN Reflex. I’m also an NY1 trigger fan so the special set up on this trigger vs the Shield series is also a plus.

It’s not the same target audience as the micro compact 9mm double stack pistols. This is an OWB model angle gun to me, I carry it sometimes, but it’s harder to conceal - it’s a good field gun, woods gun, hiking gun- especially if you get the 40S&W version the corrosion resistance is pretty good on this.

I still don’t carry +P in mine. I just use either a silvertip, or Winchester hollowpoint, or Remington UMC hollowpoint.

S&W didn't get sued over this gun. They got sued by Glock over the design of the predecessor to this gun, The Sigma. If you have a Sigma and a SD9VE side by side with the slides removed they are clearly not the same.

I just call all of those S&W handguns Sigmas, They can be had for short money even in more screwed up states used. I was told they work for the most part, I have heard of a few issues but nothing someone watching this video wouldn't be able to fix themselves.

My neighbor had a Smith Sigma (The SD9VE is still a Sigma as far as I am concerned. Just a different version.) that belonged to her father before he passed away. I got to hold the pistol and I have to say that has to be the worst trigger of any pistol I have held and Smith should be ashamed of themselves because Smith is known for good triggers on their revolvers at least. Actually a Hilary hole is a safety lock. If a pistol will shoot aluminum case it will shoot anything because aluminum expands more than brass and steel case less than brass. A Smith Sigma won't conceal well. Closer to a compact or full size pistol. The Taurus G2c/G3c or Smith Shield is a sub compact while a micro compact is SIG P365 size. An example of a compact pistol might be a SIG P226 or Taurus G3 or G3X or G3XL. Full size pistols are typically 1911 size with close to five inch barrels and longer grips. I don't know of any gun manufacturer with sterling warranty and perfect customer service except the really cheap made pistols like from the ring of fire pistols that the company knows will have problems with their pistol design. Any company is capable of good or bad customer service at any time just like any company is capable of designing a good pistol or a bad one at any time. Glad you got what you need for testing your ammo.

Yeah it has a horrible factory trigger. A $20 apex kit fixes that. Yes I know the Hillary hole is the key lock on a revolver, it’s just fun to say any stupid “safety” feature made on Smiths in the 90’s is a Hillary hole lol, the Clintons had a lot of pull with S&W in the 90’s. I have the G3C as well, and I like certain things about both guns.

@@crankygunreviews I know my G2c trigger is pretty bad but you can get used to it being consistent and that trigger is meant for close range defense so you don't need a match grade trigger. I don't expect great triggers from close range sub and micro compacts although my Bersa TPR9C has a sweet trigger for a sub compact. The TPR9C with the better trigger and a match grade barrel will hold better accuracy at longer distance even though its not needed for a close range sub compact. But for a compact or full size pistol with longer barrels that is meant to shoot longer distance it should have a better trigger for more accurate shooting farther out.

I know it’s not the worst, but people like to give them crap all the time. Mainly because they copied Glock and these aren’t very expensive. But they’re very reliable if you use the right ammo there in expensive and just like anything else they teach you how to shoot better if you take your time.
