Yeah that’s what Jake Paul THINKS he did. He’s washing his impurities with the sport of boxing. I saw ZERO tweets, posts, stories about the undercard from normies/casuals. ZERO. This is the Super Bowl, the Finals, World Series, Stanley cup, even the damn Wrestlemania of boxing. This is normie bandwagon central, where boxing gets to have its day in the sun. This is the family of viewership it receives, so thus this is its ambassador. It’s gross, we’re the worst kid in class. Us applauding Jake Paul lowers the bar. Have Jake Paul make me Canelo Benevidez and share the spotlight with true champions. Then we will talk. He’s giving you want you want in terms of there is a McDonalds on every corner and we prove to everyone as Americans how gross we are. This isn’t about “my uncle” fighting. Mike Tyson is already beloved, forgiven and paid. None of us needed this. This is gluttonous.

Normie/combat sport casual here. I give 0 f's about the undercard and this will not motivate me to watch boxing. Actually i did watch some canelo fights and was immediately bored - but at least could respect what I was seeing. The argument about "what we need" is justifying MVPs clown show.

That’s your own experience. I had random casual non boxing fan friends and co-workers texting me about Serrano + Taylor. It also trended high on it’s own and went viral. Not to mention the 50M homes. It did like 100x there last fight. I really don’t see how this isn’t something extremely positive.

People need to call out the fact that this was the largest betting sports scam in all history. Over $500 million were wagered on this fight globally and Tyson threw 60% less punches than his Roy Jones fight with half the accuracy. No drug testing was conducted and limited medical tests, Paul wasn't even licensed to fight in the state.

I can see and really appreciate both of you guys perspective. I hope Rahim is right, and the long term results are for the better of the sport. I’m a dad of young men and I have watched the popularity of the sport slowly grow amongst my son’s peers since the arrival of Jake Paul. Many of them have taken interest in discovering new fighters and even training in the sport as well. Boxing is actually one of the most popular forms of fitness today. So people are taking interest in it one way or another. I hope the sport isn’t bottoming out as Sean suggests is possible, but I can see why he thinks so. Again hopefully it all works out for the better. As a father of a young fighter conversation like these help me to think creatively in order to innovate new ways to promote my fighter. Thanks fellas‼️👏🏾

lol. I feel like these two guys have over complicated this whole thing. It’s not that deep. Fans that don’t watch boxing thought the main event was going to be fireworks. Fans that watch boxing on a regular basis knew that a 58 year old Tyson had no business fighting; he was a shot fighter over 20 years ago. True fans knew the main event would stink. It 100% stunk. I feel like Rahim is being some philosopher and over complicating something that isn’t complicated. He was complicated before the fight and definitely now. The first fight of the night was trash and the main event was trash. Shu Shu, the women and Barrios vs. Ramos was solid.

You guys philosophizing waaaay too much with the politics and symbolism. The answer to “why did we watch” is so obvious. Netflix has almost 300mil paid accounts and advertised the fight for weeks. The Paul brothers have a massive following and prophetic marketing instinct. Tyson brought the legitimacy, nostalgia, and legacy. The cowboys stadium brought familiarity and prestige. Many stars in attendance. But most of all the fight was essentially free on the largest, highest quality streaming service. This talk of idol worship, race, politics… that’s material for college essays. The truth is this was a master class in marketing for an event that brought a bit of fantasy/hypothetical to life. “Could we see a glimpse of the old Iron Mike?” This theme is so timeless and ubiquitous- can the old retired “hero” return to old form once again. Taken, Kill Bill, John Wick, The dark knight rises, the incredibles, the pianist, Gladiator…
@samueldavis58955 күн бұрын
Why? …because it wasn’t really boxing. JP is not a boxing show it’s a circus. JAKE says it’s boxing but it’s not. It was just a show with two names and it’s not up to boxing fans who watches the circus. So casuals who want to watch a circus tune in.

I never agreed that this fight was a good thing and I worried for Tyson. But I thought it would be competitive. But on fight night, pre-fight, Tyson seemed different, not mentally clear, and winded, out of breath. Being older, I know how that feels. Then his legs didn’t work. Something was wrong. I hope he didn’t have a heart issue. No More Tyson Fights….

I don’t think the sociopolitical angle matters much here. The name Mike Tyson is iconic worldwide-it’s instantly tied to destruction. Pairing that with Jake Paul, who’s huge on social media, naturally gets people interested. Even if folks don’t know Tyson’s age, they know the name and see this as a chance for someone with Jake Paul’s villain image to finally get taken down. Tyson was a massive draw back in the day, just like Mayweather, who played the villain role and broke ppv records, especially against opponents seen as real threats. This is the same formula. Add Netflix’s reach and the fact that it wasn’t pay-per-view, and you’ve got something that connects generations with two of the biggest names around.

Respect to Sean’s knowledge of boxing history and I don’t care what Zittel’s political choice is but 1) to act like Trump pacifying hate against particular groups / Tyson showing his bare ass vs Meg shaking her ass for Kamala is comparable is absurd and 2) calling Kamala “Camel-a” (never heard anybody pronounce that name like that, ever) is tone deaf as hell. Agree with Radio Rahim, Paul clearly didn’t apply more pressure when Tyson was dazed and confused in the 3rd round. Tyson gave Paul a chance by putting him on the Jones Jr vs Tyson undercard for his first ever fight. To think Paul was using some powerful Jedi mind trick is overthinking it.
