The dry bones live! Thank you for reminding me. I lost everything is Hurricane Katrina. My Greek New Testament was one of the items I had not replaced- until now! I taught a class in New Testament Greek in my parish in Odessa. When we read John 1 in class one of my students died that night. Her Greek New Testament was on her nightstand opened to John 1. The last words she read in her life were in her mind in Greek speaking of "in the beginning was the word...." When she fell asleep in the scripture and passed into the beginning Word. Thank you so much for the encouragement to drink deeply of the Pierian Spring

How does Jesus' breathing in the upper room compare and contrast with the reception of the Spirit on the day of Pentecost? Why did the apostles have to wait another 50 days before they were able to be sent out?
@chadbird15173 жыл бұрын
I think the most straightforward way to reconcile the two occasions is that the disciples received the Spirit on both occasions, Pentecost and John 20, but in different ways and for different purposes. In John 20, it is by Jesus breathing/speaking and in Acts 2 by all the activities on Pentecost (wind, fire, etc). In John 20, the focus is on their speaking (or withholding) of forgiveness. In Acts, the Spirit inspires proclamation of the Gospel in other languages. As to why they had to wait another 50 days, that has to do with the significance and fulfillment of the Israelite festival of Shavu'ot ("Weeks" or "Pentecost"). You can watch more about that in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mpSriZyqiMZ6rsU Thanks!
