well he isn't by default. definitely not. but because he requested citizenship under the promise to play for them, and was granted it, we are no longer in a default situation. he went out of his way to create an obligation for himself. the better question is why did he make, and then break that promise? maybe he has a good reason, but that's just strange, he didn't have to do that as far as i know

As someone who lives in France, there are two types of reaction among french citizens towards Embiid's decision to play for Team USA : 1) there are selfish people who are mad at the fact that he did not play for France despite getting his passport. 2) there are those (i think that's the majority, it's the just that the first ones make more noise on social media) who are just mad at his lack of tact and his mercenary-like behavior, saying that he should have refused France before getting his passport and should have played for his home country, cameroon instead of taking the easy road with team USA. But most of us weren't aware of this deal between the FIBA and the NBA and the whole insurance money stuff, i get where he's coming from now. P.S : for those wondering, we're of course ashamed of what the french basketball federation and president macron tried to do, most of us had the same opinion as Fournier and Tony Parker from the start. I wonder why the FIBA didn't try to break or renegotiate that insurance policy with the NBA. This is crazy. Even in soccer, in which players have a an actual market value, you don't see deals like that between the football federations and the clubs. Great video as always!
@cows543

I think FIBA hasn’t tried to change the deal with the NBA because the NBA is such a dominant force in basketball. So they have more negotiating power with FIBA than any soccer league does with FIFA

I think embiid is between a rock and a hard place when it comes to insurance. On the one hand, he doesnt want to bankrupt his home country if he gets injured (which is an incredibly likely possibility). on the other hand, if he tries to get the cost cut, ends up getting horrifically injured, and then doesn't get the full amount... Thats gotta sting. Especially since now his home country expects him to put his earnings into helping the community

Plus Deng prolly earns more I read some articles about his investments in realestate with Melo. I just looked up how much Embiid has earned just from his nba contract. $215,298,426 and he prolly pockets half of it. So 107,649,213. You're telling me he should invest more than 70% of earnings he's made so far in the nba to play for his country? Lol you just want to be mad. Find something else to do it.

@@oreoakalaperoji8314 Okay, maybe I`m just Embiid`s hater, and wasn`t completely right. But he is not the only player from Cameroon in the NBA. Did Embiid try to gather Cameroonian players around him and take responsibility for the national team? He didn`t because he was eager to get a free gold medal. And by the way, Cameroon is not as poor as South Sudan.

He asked for a passport to play for them. France abided by the agreement while he backed off. Nobody likes a person who doesn't keep their word. It's also ironic calling France colonizers when many countries are colonizers in their own way including the USA. All I see is a coward who wanted to play for an easy win. If he really cared about playing for his son he would've declined France. After Noah Lyles gathered the Avengers, Joel Embiid is all of a sudden a family man doing it for his son.

That does not make him a traitor. France tried to buy an NBA player to play for France...Embid agreed and then went back on his word. Makes him untrustworthy but not a traitor. So uhhh, I have a piece of constructive criticism to make but I'm a little afraid since its implicitly tied to race, specifically one I am not a member of..... I think you have noticed that your skin is very dark. If you didnt, I'm sorry that you had to find out like this. However the reason that is relevant is that such as in the opening, the contrast of your skin against the light is somewhat distracting. No it doesnt affect the content, I still think you're wonderful and going places, and I feel that legitimately, not saying it as idle flattery. Its not a mark of a lack of quality or saying anything bad about you as a presenter or your media. But anything that makes the viewer stop and focus on something that isn't your words is a net negative for the video. With the work you put in on these, that would be a damn shame. I hope that was effective and diplomatic. I'm just leaving you comments and giving feedback because I really think you're on the cusp of breaking out big. TL;DR- maybe play around with your light sources to get more even/less reflective lighting? Looking into the ways movie sets do it of course is the best way.

People in the comments say that he doesn't owe anything to France. Really ? He begged to get the French nationality and got it, because he said black on white on paper that he wished to play only for the french basketball. His words. French nationality is not something easy to get. I've been married ten years to a foreigner, she's never been able to get the french nationality. One of my best friends is from Ivory Coast, he's married with a french person, he has a french kid with her, and he still didn't get the french nationality yet. So yeah, when you get an exception to the rule, because you give your word, you owe something. Unless you're full of sh*t.

Couple of things: you usually are on point but ... First you seem to be like someone with African origin as I heard some French therefore you know the "realities" of Africa. My opinion: he took the best decision to play for the States. Playing for France when you are french ex- colonies while you know the NBA system and having a better chance to win with USA… As someone who also left Africa, it is not sustainable for countries (as you stated: insurance... not enough great players, all system is weak). The best way for some of us to help with the development of Africa is work and play for Western Countries. I have a request: please stop using the term 3rd World Counties. It is REALLY condescending.
