Theres a universe where Ron Dennis listened to Senna in 93 and went with the Lamborghini power unit. Senna won the 1993 championship, stays with mclaren in 94 and never has his accident in the Williams. He went on win a few more championships with mclaren, and possibly with ferrari as well, retiring with records that may never be broken. Now he does shows and podcasts with his friends Alan Prost, Nigel Mansell, and the funniest man in Formula 1 history, Gerhard Burger, who continues to prank him.

Simple Lamborghini were broke till 2000s when VW bought them it took them till 2010 to be profitable and sustainable with V10 Gallardo. Lamborghini could come to F1 in 2030 because for the first time they are in Leman at top class still with quite bit less budget compared to top teams including alpine.

I think the historic lack of reliability was what drove McLaren to make a "safer" choice in Ford. And there is no guarantee that the car would "have challenged for a championship" given the record up to that point of the Lambo's engine unreliability. "Pace" cannot overcome repeated mechanical break downs. McLaren's actual first choice was Renault but that was vetoed by their fuel supplier and sponsor Shell because Renault was an Elf ( a French firm) sponsored company. Renault engined Williams ended up winning the drivers and constructor's titles in 1993.

Old Italian saying... Ferrari is for those that want to be something. Maserati is for those who are something. Maserati was the brand of Royalty while Ferrari was the young upstart. Maserati was also THE Italian racecar manufacturer from the 1930's through to the late 1950's. When Ferrari started out, Maserati was what Ferrari wanted to be. Don't knock the Maserati. They won World Drivers Championships back in their day... As for Lamborghini, they were under too much financial pressure to do anything other than fail in F1. When Chrysler bought the company, it was on it's last legs, building miniscule numbers of cars annually, and unable to update their "range" (1 model, the Countach). Chrysler was too busy getting the manufacturing side working & designing the Diablo to take the time to help the racing engines development, and it showed. By the time of the potential McLaren hookup, while Lambo was a going concern, Chrysler was in trouble, and the racing V12 had a reputation for being a bit of a grenade. Had McLaren used the Lambo V12, then Chrysler may've been willing to continue the program. When McLaren chose the known-to-be-reliable Ford, for perfectly sensible reasons, Chrysler/Lambo cut their losses & pulled out, again, for perfectly sensible reasons. It just wasn't meant to be...

There is a fundamental error in this: the McLaren-Lamborghini test mule didn't run until past midway the 1993 season. The way you have it here, McLaren had considered running the Lamborghini V12 before the start of the 1993 season. That is completely wrong. McLaren was evaluating the Lamborghini V12 as a possible engine option for 1994-onwards; it was never an actual option for 1993 until McLaren arranged those tests with the Lamborghini V12 and Senna preferred it over the Ford V8s the team were running. In other words, the Lamborghini V12 was never an option for McLaren until the time came for the team to evaluate engine options for 1994, not 1993.

Senna was fully on board with the Lamborghini power unit after testing it. If mclaren used it instead of the Ford engine, the mclaren mp4/8B would have been way more competitive and possibly kept Senna at mclaren in 94, preventing him from going to Williams. And if he doesn't go to Williams, he doesn't have his accident at imola. If he doesn't have his accident at imola, the rest of the 90s would have been dominated by Senna vs. schumacher, which would have been unreal.
