It breaks my heart to hear about the children going without meals. I grew up during the Recession and my family regularly didn't have enough food. In my mind I'm immediately there, hungry all the time, unable to focus on school and watching my mom pretend she's full so my brother and I can have her food. The damage is irrevocable. The feeling of uncertainty. The pain of watching your siblings and parents starve and being helpless. I am praying for all UK families, especially the children because this will continue to impact them for years to come.

The accountability of throwing your country under the bus because of inner-party power games? Well, the whole party seems to take a lot of responsibility for that. I bet you don't even get what I'm alluding to. It doesn't matter, their whole agenda is irresponsible neo-liberal bullshit set up and now carried out by billionaires and also only benefitting them and the politicians on their payroll. If there was any accountability for causing hundreds of thousands of children to go hungry, the economy to recess, inflation and more and more lunatics to "serve" as PMs and doing what they want before apparently getting bored and going back to sniffling glue, that party would not rule again for 30 years.

The reason GB had 4 prime ministers in 6 years is Brexit.. A lot of the economic problems the GB has experienced is simply from a staggering failure to realize the problems and challenges brexit has exposed the GB economy to. A lot of the problems has been disguised by the corona pandemic and lately the Ukraine war, however at some point GB needs to have serious discussions not just about the brexit and the frankly self-destructive policies of the GB in regards to the EU, but also about the possibilities and challenges that GBs economy faces and how to deal with them..

To be honest - greetings from a proud citizen of the European Union btw! - I consider Brexit just to be another symptom of the wider problems the British have with their political system. The most severe by far for sure, but only a symptom. Brexit cost you about 4% of your economic output, and will do further damage in the future, for sure, but it is by far not the only problem the British have. I do not know why the British elites act as they do, but best wishes to you!

Despite the chaos, I have to admit that democracy is truly operating in UK. In my country (Cyprus) it would have been IMPOSSIBLE for MPs to criticize the leader of their own party and yet remain and not removed. In our country, and other corrupted countries we are so used to not seeing any accountability, that it is expected that politicians will not keep their promises when elected and nothing will happen to them

At this point we need a general election. We can't have the Tories continuously picking prime ministers without reference to the UK public opinion, who then choose policy without any electoral mandate from us.
@milesjolly6173
@milesjolly6173 2 жыл бұрын
I agree we should have another election to wipe the slate clean and start again, but Tories will say that Boris won an election in 2019, and they wouldn't be wrong. Technically, according to the Fixed Term Parliament Act of 2011, they don't need to call another election until 2024. Keir Starmer could force an election, but he would need more than half of all MPs to support him which would include some Conservative MPs. They probably wouldn't vote for that because it might not be good for their job security. I personally think we need a new law that says that whenever we get a new prime minister who didn't become prime minister by winning a general election, parliament is automatically dissolved and a new general election begins. That way the new prime minister has to actually get a mandate or they have to go. It probably wouldn't be a perfect system but it might work better than what we have now. I think a general election campaign in this country is around 6-7 weeks, which interestingly is roughly the amount of time since Truss became prime minister. So assuming that parliament had been dissolved as soon as she moved into No. 10 and the campaign was 6-7 weeks as I mentioned, we should have had an election right about now. I don't know who I'd vote for or if I'd even bother voting, but I think people should be given a say.

@@olivia-performanceartist3693 she had a "steep learning curve" because she wasn't able to do anything but do amazing comedy in the beginning, so a halfway decent resignation speech looks like a total success in comparison. I've never seen such a complete airhead as head of government anywhere, next to here Trump and Johnson indeed look like they know the purpose of why they are saying the utter trash that's leaving their shitholes of a mouth. She's truly the Sarah Palin of Britain without the religious nuttiness. Not even she knows why she puts the words she chooses into one sentence together. She's mental and a dumbass, and she wouldn't have been there in the first place if the Tories weren't racist enough to pick Sunak right away, although he's most likely gonna screw some minorities and working class people even more being a billionaire leech that profits of crises like all the other billionaires. After that whole mess, they could have just kept Johnson, the whole party has decided to let the whole brexit mess hit the people full force years ago, anyway.

It's not really about why she resigned. The question is why she was elected at all - and the only explanation is - those who voted her in probably knew she's wasn't too bright or decisive and hoped they could - manipulate her to do their bidding.

open... This is unexpected. That is as short sighted the tories. over 600000 signs a petition for a general election and they ignored that. What do you expect when you ignor the voters. We need a change and these arrogant self centred mps have no idea how to provide it.
@atrlawes98

you and many others over estimate the efficacy of petitions. Getting over 100,000 votes means it will be debated in Parliament. 600,000 is less than 1% of the population, it means nothing. Yes we should have an election but petitions are useless 99% of the time.

It can become very lonely at the top if things are going wrong. But as a non Brit outsider researching the events in retrospective it seems to me that Mrs. Truss has a personality that made her the loneliest PM ever from day one. It is virtually impossible to lead a government in a democracy like that. She was the wrong choice and subconsciously Tory membership knew it from the outset, but hey, maybe she could do miracles? Instead, nobody stopped her politics of fairy tales and it came down to the markets to do it.
