Question though is if the album was great because of Anette or if it was good because of the songs despite Anettes contribution. My guess is that the songs carried the album, not Anette. Don't get me wrong I still think she is underrated, just not sure she should be credited for the album...

Rediscovering Dark Passion Play today made me realize that I really enjoyed her era in Nightwish. It was a very nostalgic trip to my early 20's when I discovered this band and they are stuck with me over all this years. Time passed by and the album just got better... Thanks, Annette and Tuomas for all the memories.

The fact remains that they did indeed pick Anette and I wish people would stop bitching about it. She deserves respect just as Tarja and Floor do. Honestly the petty bitching and horrible comments about her singing is disgusting! She is a part of the Nightwish history so get over it. When I found out that Anette was the lead singer, I gave her a chance and I am happy I did. I enjoyed her time in nightwish. When Floor became the singer she never got the hate like Anette did. I do agree Anette does need respect like Tarja and Floor get.

Anette's work with Nightwish was one of the best NW album (Imaginaerum). Tuomas wrote this masterpiece of an album but she brought it to life. Nevertheless, Tuomas was right. Her personality doesn't suit the band. Anette herself posted in her insta story last June (I think it was June 27 or 28) that she has a phobia of loud sounds i.e. thunder, grenades and fireworks so the loud sounds during NW concerts are a nightmare for her. Considering that NW spends most of their band time touring, this is quite a dilemma since they are after all a metal band. It doesn't help that the older NW fans are horrible to her during concerts just because she sounded different. I didn't like the way they fired her (hated the way they fired Tarja too) but it is indeed the best solution for everyone - the fans, the band and the crew. Troy and Marko even expressed immense relief when Floor joined. Anette herself might not forgive her former bandmates of the way they treated her but if she's being honest to herself, she would admit that they were right. My point is, Anette's fans need to stop discrediting the other NW vocalists, especially Floor, just because she replaced Anette. These comments such as Floor being "painfully generic" or having "no emotions" are just plain spiteful and are far from the truth if you try to listen to NW 8 and 9 with an open mind and stop being prejudiced. Keep in mind that Floor sang the album as the album requires her to. She herself commented in an interview that she had to learn how make her voice softer or something like that and that it was a bit of a challenge. I'd like to add that Anette is a very strong vocalist. Tarja and Floor are too. They're three different artists with three different singing styles. However, whether you like it or not, Anette's gone and Floor is here to stay. Tuomas already mentioned that NW will disband if Floor leaves. If you don't like Floor, stop bitching about her and stop discrediting her every chance you have. PS. Imaginaerum is one of my top 5 NW albums.

He fired Sammi in a shitty way. Had a third party do it to a childhood friend. Then Tarja. He couldnt speak to her and he couldnt even hold the letter from the press till she read it. Tarja is not and never was a diva..there would not have been the blowback if she was (its a small country so people know). He and her hubby were at war fir many reasons. Annette? Another poor move when pregnant . In each you can rationalize the why of move but not the how. Tuomas convinces himself. Hes a good guy with poor EQ. BTW Emppu Marko and Jukka always agreed bc Tuomas made it: either we lose that person or we disband.

The whole Anette thing is vastly misunderstood by many, even the most die hard of the Nightwish Army. Anette had to try to sing the songs a different way than she normally does for the Dark Passion Play album because the music was already there, and she came in and had to be directed to a high degree to get what was needed for each song. With Imaginaerum, the songs were written with that vocal style in mind purposely. Anette, but her own admission, is a belter. But it works for her. She could never try to even begin to sing like Tarja or Floor...it's not her. But at the same time...if you look at the long term, bigger picture, Anette was truly and honestly NOT the right fit for Anette. Anette didn't truly blossom and shine until she left Nightwish and did her albums with The Dark Element, and then her second solo Album "Strong"...that's where her voice truly became what it was meant to be. Those albums are a tour de force for Anette.

She had flu with a high fever, so she had to go to the hospital and skip a concert. At this concert, Tuomas and Troy asked the audience whether they should skip the concert or join the singers of the other two bands on the tour. The audience wanted the concert and a big karaoke festival took place because the audience knew the songs better than the singers. Anette then complained from the hospital that the concert should not have taken place without her permission. She also wanted to cancel the world tour after the USA tour because she had become pregnant. She didn't want to sing until shortly before the birth. However, the band had organized a temp behind her backs to continue the tour: Floor Jansen. Everything together led to the crash.

she was pregnant. rumer has it she once lost a pregnancy because of nightwish exessive touring (that also caused the drummer to leave later.) and she list custady over her first child that lived with his father (but she got it back after she quit nightwish). She was pregnant and had pain and went to hospital just in case and the docter said if you want to be sure to keep it you should not fly around the world so much in a metalband because that is increasing risk. And you are at risk because it happened before. even after that docters diagnose Anette did one more show giving Floor 3 days time and not leave the band pay the high US cancellations penalty. Floor was already asked at her sisters wedding which was weeks before "48 hours to learn the setlist" she said she was asked to take over the last months of tour latin america and europe festivals : not 48 hours but at least 3 weeks notice or more. This is prooven by a radio interview in dutch after the first show with Floor: when floor wasnt instructed what to say yet she said she was asked 3 weeks before but had only started practising the setlist 48 hours because at that time she was only asked for the last concerts and she had to suddently fill in 3 weeks earlier than she planned and she had never listened to that nightwish album ever ( even though she later said she was such a great fan). Because Anette turned out to be pregnant at the beginning of the tour and the tour was longer than 9 months they all had plenty of time to arrange another singer if they didnt want to cancel half the tour. So Annette helped them so that and only moved her quitting 3 weeks earlier than planned because Nightwish took too long and kept her asking to jeaperdizing her pregancy even longer. So when the docter said it so explicitly she even did one more concert. And then quit because otherwise Nightwish would never make a decision. They had Floor on hold and pushed Anette too much to finish at least america. Because america is horrible you must pay too much if you cancel. And Nightwish had just waisted all their millions on that movie that flopped. Because that was Tuomas' hobby and he waisted all Nightwish money and wanted Anette to jeaperdise her childs life to make him some more money in america. So the only thing was Anette said enough is enough Floor can have it all but then she must also do the work. Not just step in when it is all prepaired financially at the cost of Anette. The fight was about money nothing else. Floor agreed to fly on a shorter notice 48 hours instead of 3 weeks later dispite beeing ill prepaired: because she knew Anette wasnt coming back. When there is apperently a shortnotice quitting insyead of the better prepaired one 3 weeks later. So Floor was to say no i have a contract in 3 weeks time im not making a fool of myself unprepaired. But then on second thought: if i nail this this band is mine! If she leaves that suddently it means she isnt coming back. ok lets go.

I believe he's lying. The more sensible explanation to me is that as they broke up with Tarja, she told them that they were nothing without her, that even if they kept the name, Tarja still would actually the one taking Nightwish with her. They searched for new singer but as everyone were frightened to step in Tarja's shoes, no match for her showed up, so they chose to take the different path and change the vocalist style. But as majority of all singers were too intimidated to take the challenge, knowing that any replacement to Tarja would face the same consequences as Anette did, they ended up rushing the choice by hiring the best of the worst to the job, as they desperately wanted to keep playing as well as prove Tarja wrong with what she had said. And I don't mean this bad to Anette, she's alright singer and stepping up to Tarja's place was insanely brave from her, but the shoes just were too big. But there's just no way the band would ever mistake thinking Anette could have sung any of Tarja's songs properly after hearing her trying to sing them live. She just couldn't. And it's no shame, they were insanely difficult and written for an opera singer. but she couldn't and the band must have realized this before deciding to push on anyways.

It’s kind of hard to pretend that the NW fandom didn’t hate Anette (the internet never forgets), and I feel like he realized that the “brighter” tone he had been building up for his singer since Century Child wasn’t working out as well as he expected: also I think maybe sparks flew with “Song of Myself”, the most overtly blasphemous the band had been since “Kinslayer”. So he wanted an out, her unexpected child gave him one, he took it with less grace than his dismissal of Tarja, and people like you, who hated Anette from the start, bought his bullshit story about “lack of moral character.” Which is a laugh and a half, considering “Yours is False Hope” sounds like an even harsher middle finger than “Bye Bye Beautiful”. i once picked a live concert from yt hastly when we got some friends over, it was already with Anette, but i didn't notice at first, also didn't care, since Amarath was a very good single back when they released the Album. However, some time later.. we turned around to the monitor, to look at whats going on.. When she started to sing the old Tarja songs.. It did hurt to listen to, so we sat there in disbelive, thinking that the recording was altered, picked another live recording with her, just as bad.. It truly sounded like you mistuned your Guitar, but got through the session anyways.

And to be fair, i really liked the Album with her (still do), I knew about the drama with Tarja, so unlike most people, i was aware they got a new lead Singer and was very open minded to it. The two albums they made with Anette were the best of all Nightwish. And since she left, Nightwish with Floor has been becoming painfully generic. Now at this point Anette with her Dark Element, Solo and Allen/Olzon material, she is doing the Nightwish style symphonic metal better than Nightwish themselves, almost through some perfect karmic justice. So I guess I have Toumas to thank for finding Anette so she could bring out the best in the band, and then take it with her when the time is up! lol

Whenever Tuomas talks about the band's wishes, I have my doubts. He makes 90 percent of the music and without him there is no Nightwish. The other band members know this and end up having to accept his wishes. Tuomas will never get a really honest statement from the other band members. I also found it interesting how aggressively Anette reacts, whether she can also sing in metal style. Apparently she's never been good with criticism. That may be the reason she fails in the end. The Tuomas interview concerning Anette sounded like the band liked her singing...but cancel a world tour?? Seriously??? Did Floor stop singing until just before Freya's birth? Did she want Tuomas to cancel concerts?? I don't think so. To me, Tarja and Anette dug the ground from under their own feet. Tuomas had no choice in either situation b/c he had to have another singer. Tarja gave up her position for her husband(which Floor did not do). Anette made impossible demands on Tuomas, citing her pregnancy. Not smart.. Marko is great to be sure but it wasn't likely he could have carried a 1 1/2 hour setlist with his own voice throughout a world tour. Floor wanted the Nightwish top job to see if she could recover from her lingering depression which, thanks to her massive determination, she did. If I'm wrong about any of that, correct me.

End of the day, Tuomas was traumatized and Floor said no in 2005. She never was Going to Last. Nightwish is just too good live to put up with a singer who can’t cut it on stage. I saw them 4 times with Annette and she was never believable in that role. Nice lady I’m sure. But she never belonged in Nightwish
