They spent way too much time and money fiddling with safety mechanisms instead of focusing on the product’s process and final product, and putting warnings in their instructions. For this age minimum craft as well, it’s vital for adult supervision at all times but it’s also important to know that many kids understand and remember not to touch something they’re told is currently dangerous.

Yes, I actually bought a set for my daughter 2 years ago and it failed completely. I had to throw it all out when she wasn't home and hope she never asks about it because small kids are really hard to deal with when they're excited about something.
@rohsek729811 ай бұрын
@@maqaroon I’m not a parent and never plan to be, but I do know that children are smarter than people think. They can retain important memories and information easier such as safety. “Don’t put metal in the microwave because it can cause a fire” or “Don’t touch approach wild animals because they can bite”. I think them knowing WHY something is dangerous is most important when learning about said danger. When they don’t listen, they’ll often learn the hard way. I’m sure many kids have broken bones falling from trees they were advised not to, or have a burn from natural curiosity touching something hot. haha. I’ve always been a goody two-shoes but still have some life lessons learned that way 😂 We all want to do what we’re told not to

Yeah, waiting TWO MONTHS for any toy to work is ludicrous - this reminds me of rock tumblers, which take at least a month of tumbling rocks and grits inside a very loud toy which needs to be put in the garage to deaden the sound just a little - only to get mediocre results.

Mediocre? Rock tumblers are great. They look awesome if you use stones that will polish up well and do it right. They aren't actually that loud, and while they're not exactly good for impatient kids (i would not consider them to be 'toys', as they can be dangerous on some occasions particularly if you tumble glass which releases gas), if you are a bit older and have the magpie sense to collect shiny rocks, or you like crafts or you're just into it as a hobby, they're super fun. I don't know much about toy development, but I'm kind of wondering how this got greenlit? Presumably they must have tested it and found that it didn't actually work following the instructions?
@maqaroon11 ай бұрын
I also wonder that! However MGA never had the best track record for DIY toys that genuinely work. Around the same time, they released lots of Poopsie Slime Dolls which were giant unicorns or alpacas where you can feed them powder + water and they poop slime. I got a couple for my daughter in lockdown and they all failed miserably. The most lucrative part of their business is definitely expensive collectibles like Rainbow High or LOL and they don't seem to care that much about the DIYs (at least prior to Miniverse).
@nuotatorre874111 ай бұрын
@@maqaroonAbout the poopsie, in my experience they tended to work a but better than this kit. The result weren't always there, but it tended to at least give you a decent final product even if it was simple very simple slime. The unicorn dolls were probably among the worst prdoucts, since they were so gimmicky when at the same time smaller craft kits of the same brand were sold at the time that gave the same result without having to play with the useless Unicorn. I think they realized this because they later, started to sell minifigures inside premade slimes, and the alter toys in the series were more about the figurine than the slime itself.

That's a very good point! It's possible that test products used another silicone and the mass produced version ended up with something different. I work with silicones a bit. They are quite expensive, and there are a lot of different kinds depending on what you want the "end feel" to be. They should never take two months to cure - something is wrong. Either the mixture, or people aren't managing to get the components mixed well enough in the bag. Sure, they do have a shelf life, but I have used 10 year old silicone and it usually works fine. Filling a form like that that isn't open anywhere is hard. You would usually want to put it on a vibrating plate or in a vacuum chamber to get the air bubbles out and everything to fill up. What makes the back look uneven on the purple one is that it's full of air bubbles that rose to the top and couldn't get out. Having more silicone or not is a question - what would happen is if you add too much you would get a piece sticking out in the back where it was poured in. That would be very hard to remove and not look too good. Since the hole is so big that might not be great... Really you would want to check when it is just about right and stop pouring, but in this case you can't see anything. So it would be better to underfill just a little bit. I guess where it goes wrong is then you need to be sure everyone gets the same amount out of the container, and all of the moulds are the exact same volume... This is just a stupid product because making silicone moulds is hard. It works in a small format because there's much less air to be trapped in there, much less expensive silicone, and a much simpler mould.

Joanna! I have a method i use for making clear, glittery squishies in the microwave with a perfect mochi texture that Id love to see utilized in a video! It makes the most aesthetic peices! You just have to buy either some clear glitter squishies or some clear squishy cubes if you want a totally clear peice (ill warn you, they are a bit harder to find than the glitter squishies but totally worth it!) Cut off any paint to preserve clarity and melt them down! You can even add some extra, loose glitter in before pouring them into the mold if youre quick enough! Just wanted to share this with you because i know you love clear, glittery aesthetic things! Let me know if you plan to use this method in a video because id love to see it! ❤

I only remember these from the KZbin reviews. I saw like, 4 seperate channels test these things when they first came out and NONE of them worked properly. They all either took too long to cure and came out sticky, were filled with bubbles and holes, or the mold didn't fill properly leaving massive chunks missing. It is 100% for the best that they no longer make these. I can also easily imagine kids putting them in their mouths and stuff; not a good combo with uncured silicone.

When this prdouct first came out I remeber watching a review from an Italian KZbinr. Her results were actualy good, but she did nothing particulary diffrent from what you did, guess she just got luky. With that said she wasn't particulary impressed with the kit, stating that it was super hard to use even for an adult, and that it wasn't particulary worth it for a couple of spongy figurines.

You checked the mold after two months but it could very well have been cured before.
