From what i saw nothing happened except extreme amounts of protests even though it was the middle of the night, and he took his words back like an hour later. Everyone was just "youre done facked up this time dude"

He couldn't really do much with the 2 or so hours that it was in place. He called the military to try and block off the General Assembly building to MPs (which is within his right when martial law is decreed in SK). Luckily MPs were able to sneak in and pass the vote to overrule it and the president later followed the orders of the parliament. In the end, he didn't really do anything bad, or wasn't able to do anything within the short time span. Something to note in his language during the declaration was he said he was enacting martial law to "eradicate anti-state forces" that were supposedly within the opposition party, so one can assume if he was successful, a flurry of arrest on his political opponents would have ensued.

Corruption in the Korean Government is nothing new but very surprised he declared Martial Law that hasn't happened in a very long time. He will be forced to resign and will be prosecuted. South Korea has moved beyond dictatorships. Korean Politics is very fractured to say the least at lot of splits and mergers between parties.

Let's take some considerations from what happened in the country - Martial law was declared out of blue with no contexts whatsover. - The president is former prosecutor general and he probably knew the consequences of declaring martial law. This is particularly true if he had the history of fighting against the martial law during his twenties. - Was the martial law carried out as accordingly? The excution was so poor and I have to ask if they had actually planned to take over parliment. - There are a lot of things happening behind the curtain that are beyond what the foreigners can understand. And, we might have to see the consequence of this martial law two years from now.

Emergency power is not martial law. Martial law is when the military makes the rules, the parliament has no more power (until the military gives it back) and your civil rights (even to life) no longer exist. Emergency powers are granted by the parliament, given legal power by the parliament and have a deadline voted upon on when those powers end, or need to be voted back into effect again.
