I’m one of those odd people that believes no player is untouchable, so long as you get max value for a trade. The Mavs absolutely did NOT get max value for this trade. The fact they failed to shop Luka means Nico Harrison is utterly incompetent, or there’s something going on behind the scenes we don’t know about. To bundle him out the door so fast to the first taker, after investing so much in him, suggests a team that cannot wait to wash their hands of the player, for whatever reason.

The Davis disrespect is incredible to see, it just shows that majority of the basketball fanbase don't value defence that much even if they claim to as they are calling this the dumbest move ever for which I will attribute to mainly an emotional response. Davis is a top 5 player in this league and has been the Lakers best player since he arrived there and he's been the best defender in the league for nearly a decade now. They just traded a generational offensive player for a generational two-way player. The Lakers now have to deal with the Luka show that they've been trying to solve for well over 5 years, where the Lakers have to build around a talent that has been playing the same way since he was 13/14 and who behaviour/temperament cannot be solved by anyone but himself, since the Mavs have moved heaven and earth to make him comfortable. It's a shocking move, the optics are not that great but basketball wise you can see it working for the Mavs unless disaster strikes.

Sorry man, don’t think jason kidd is the same level of coach as kenny atkinson, and lively will come back and now you have 3 elite bigs who all deserve minutes with 1 aging point guard. Defense wins championships, but you need to score points. We saw the mavs struggle on offense without luka and struggle on defense because of luka. But we also saw luka play passable defense throughout the playoffs last year. The team is built for a 25 year old all nba guard with elite scoring and passing. Now your offense is essentially the same but worse, and your defense is supposedly better, even though it was already pretty elite last year.

Thank you for making this video. Everyone is talking about this trade being so one sided that it's a conspiracy. I'm a Lakers fan, and the Mavs won this trade. Not even counting Luka's weight and injuries, the Lakers are an objectively worse team. They were bottom of the league in rebounding and are now going to be dead last. They will be a bottom 5 defensive team after losing Christie and AD. Unless Rob Pelinka can pull off some trade magic for a Myles Turner or Clint Capella, the Mavs are going to finish with a better record than the Lakers going forward. TBH, IDK if the Lakers can even make the playoffs after this trade.

Shai probably _would_ struggle against AD. That’s why whoever Kyrie guards is setting a high ball screen to get the switch. AD is great but he’s still a center. That 2011 championship meant so much more because it was after years of growing with Dirk to finally see him get what he always worked so hard for. Luka is better than Dirk, he was going to beat all of Dirk's records and become the best Mavs player ever, and the city adores him. That was ripped away without any warning that there were any major issues. Lakers cycle through stars like a trust fund kid cycles through sports cars. It’s likely Lively or Gafford won’t be joining them on the court. When teams spread us out we will need more perimeter defenders, not less.

I actually like the current lineup. Defense is real solid. Three defensive centers? Plus AD can play the 4, he's gonna be Dirk, except he plays defense too. This is a win now move. All the pieces fit. Also, I always believed in a Guard-Forward or Guard/Center duos. Guard-guard duos always doesn't make sense to me. I think you can maximize the talent if duos play different positions. Now, everyone has their own roles. I dunno why people can't see this. Yeah Luka is great, but fit is always important to me. Him and Kyrie play the same positions. That's just what I think. I'm excited to see them. 🔥

this trade does not make Dallas a win-now team. Do you think the players you just named to start as guards are better defensive players as well as catching shoot three point shooters then Clay? Clay guarded the toughest guy every night when he played for the Warriors and was a lockdown defensive player and we all know what he is capable of doing from three point range. His catch and release is so fast and accurate. He is one of the best to ever do it. If he didn’t spend all those years playing with Steph he would have been able to showcase that on a nightly basis, but when you have two guys that are both on the floor and able to pull up from anywhere at any time it takes away half of your possessions! We’re talking about somebody who came out and knocked down. How many three-pointers in a row without missing a single one? Dropped how many points without even playing the fourth quarter? And like I said he was the best defensive player on the Warriors hands-down by taking on the opposing teams best player every single night! If they don’t start Clay at least in the beginning to see how it goes. I feel like the team chemistry has the potential to go downhill and fast. The reason Clay left the Warriors was because he didn’t wanna come off the bench and I agree that he deserves a starting spot on that team, especially now that Luka is gone…..

I think there offense can tread water. Kyrie’s offensive rating without luka this season is 117, thats above average. With kyrie you can have a good offense, it’ll probably not be elite but I think it could be solid.
