The Merovingian time (5th-7th century) is marked by a huge state of tension further to the collapse of the Western Roman Empire. The difficult constitution of the kingdoms encountered inheritance rules fostering the dispersal of these territories, but above all provoking numerous conflicts. To this already dejected frame is added a real family vendetta from 568 between king Clothar I's children. Two queens, Fredegund and Brunhilda, played an important role in this more-40-year conflict. So let's come back on the mechanims which weakened the Merovingian dynasty.
