They didn't leave so they could have religious freedom as they already had that in England as was mentioned in the video, but because they wanted everyone to conform to their religion. Also the union between England and Scotland was in 1707 not 1603 FFS!!
@victoire614 Жыл бұрын
They did not have "religious freedom" in England. They were banned from holding high ranking positions in the church and generally getting sidelined and discriminated against. It wasn't on the level of genocide or anything like that, but enough to make them want to leave where they could openly preach their views without getting fired or banished. That still counts as persecution. And yes some of them in the colonies forced their views on everyone there, but it was a mixed bag. Many Puritans like Peter Bulkeley and John Winthrop were fairly liberal in their views on dissent. As with any time or group, there are going to be varying opinions and at times the more stupid and sinister of the group will get some power. Because those instances are more sensational (aka Salem Witch Trials), that's what people sadly remember the Puritans for rather than all the relatively progressive ideals they spread like the democratization of religion and universal education.

Wow ~ I've heard of Puritans but was never interested in History because it's one sided - The dead cannot voice their side to our recorded HISTORY. With Europe and the Catholic Church in division - this explains a lot. People Divided among neighboring people ~ between right / wrong views ... Religious Law started here among Royalty, Popes and commoners?? Many SAINTS and spiritual Ascended masters : Christ, Buddha, Muhammad, Krishna, Quan Yin, Tara, etc, ... If we put them all in one room ... They would not be fighting among each other ... Because their common thread Is Pure Unconditional Compassionate LOVE. ALL religions for the established Brotherhood/ Sisterhood. As human species we are One Human Family... That is, our greatest act is Compassionate Kindness - one to another!! That is TRUE RELIGION, that holds us in UNITY. Christ Consciousness + Buddha Nature = Our Higher Humanity with that said, may all sentient beings be well, happy and joyfully blessed in love. Thank you for letting me share. Great video btw. 🫒🕊️❤️🏡✨🙏🥭🪷🪩 Namo Buddhaya

To show how wrong "Puritans and Calvins" had the scripture is following 1) Predeterminism - is incorrect. One of the most controversial things God did when he created man (and caused 1/3 of the Angels to revolt) was giving man "free will". If predeterminism was the case, then we would NOT have free will. 2) That the ONLY people going to heaven were their denomination and no other believer's, or not. Jesus did not say he died on the cross for only Puritans. He said he died for the sins of ALL mankind. I won't go into the lengthy detail "why" this was necessary by Jesus, and God. Just trust me when I say it has to do with the "subconscious mind and humans facing death", and that is the reason it was for all mankind and not just a few "chosen" ones by the Pope etc. That even people of other religious beliefs can and are forgiven. Having their deeds/actions be the judgement of what happens in the "afterlife" and where ya end up. You can still be a good person, and not be Christian. Especially in ancient times when Jesus had to make the rounds. Where do you think the Eastern concept of Buddhism came from? Jesus. It's not like there were printing presses, and radios back in those days. He had to make the rounds and spread his message to everybody, but in terms their culture would understand. As soon as you think you are the "chosen" one over everybody else, then certainly you are not, and only full of BS. Don't drink the Kool aid of false prophets people! And be warry of the person who sins Monday to Saturday (though Saturday is the actual Sabbath) and pious only on Sunday. peace!

8:03 "a reformed, Calvinist movement Arminianism" is inaccurate: Arminianism is in direct opposition to Calvinism on the crucial topic of predestination.
@rylencason4420Ай бұрын
Calvinism came first. By definition a reform of that would be Arminianism, which is actually the polar opposite of Calvinism. Calvinism itself is a reform away from the Catholic Church, which is a reform from the original Church. A lot of Catholics are Arminian, and a lot of Protesants are Calvinist. The original Church is no longer here, but some think that Calvinists, Purtians, and Protesants are trying to revert back to what the Catholics damaged. Meanwhile the Catholics think they are the true church. Some are "Protesant" but can't swallow predestination. And some just think all of it is dividing the Church too much.

The pilgrims, being religious refugees facing prosecution by the church of England fled to Holland (the Netherlands) build a large and well established community there and years later after the city of leiden refused to extradite them on Englands request decided to go to America not for more religious freedom but to only have one/their religion. The original Pilgrims/puritans were British but they left the Netherlands as Dutch.

Most important is Catholics follow the Pope, Protestants of any denomination (Baptist, Lutheran, Anglican, etc.) do not. And think of Protestants as protesting the Catholic Church, cause that’s literally where the name comes from, a monk called Martin Luther got upset about them selling indulgences and other corruption, and he wrote 99 complaints about it (called the 99 theses) and nailed them to the door of the church, starting the Protestant Reformation. Oh, and a big thing was not having to learn Latin, translating the Bible into people’s native tongues, so that they can read it for themselves and not rely on a priest to translate. Not sure if Catholics today still have to have services in Latin or not, but I think they can now read the Bible in their native tongues now, since it’s been, I dunno, roughly 500 years. And way before the Protestants came along, there was this thing called the Great Schism…

Simple, the first christians were the Catholics, then some guy said lets start our own religion in protest against the corrupt christians from Rome... these protesters or protestants then fought a war for 30 years with Rome. They fought back and forth, until the protestants said enough, and left. Then other people said hey, I don't like these protestants let's start our own religion... and protestants have been disagreeing with each since, leading to more fractures and divisions within the protestant faith, which led to many sects and separate faiths within the protestant religion. No difference really...just people trying to start their own religion when disagreements arise amoung them.

Orthodox Christian here, one difference between Orthodox and Catholic is the Virgin Mary's passing. Orthodox believe that she died of natural causes. Catholics believe that she ascended to the heavens like Jesus. Another difference is the architecture of churches. Orthodox churches have an eastern style architecture, and on the interior, the walls are covered with Byzantine style art of biblical figures and events. Catholic churches have a gothic style architecture, and the interior tends to be somewhat simpler in terms of art.

This has a very skewed telling of it (from an 'American Puritan' kind of perspective). England was gradually becoming Protestant from Henry VIII, Mary I tried to put a stop to it but ultimately failed, hence why Catholics tried to blow up James I in 1605. The problem wasn't that the Church of England was oppressive to Puritans, it's that Puritans were so extreme and oppressive towards any other group. Puritans were literally incharge of England between 1649 to 1660 under Oliver Cromwell, they removed all fun and celebration, including drinking, sports, Christmas, theatre. People couldn't wait to be rid of it and the Puritan cause kind of died out. The Church of England kept a balance of traditions but in the Protestant name because Catholics had a problem with wanting absolute power and being buddies with the Pope, no Catholic is allowed to sit on the UK throne even today.
