When Undertale came out, I had a negative experience with the fandom. I ignored it for a few years. When the fan musical came up on KZbin, I was bored and said screw it. I played through the game on my own the next day. There's a lot of people who miss the point of Undertale, but they're a vocal minority. I regretted letting them influence me to not give it a shot. It's a story of hope and despair, good intentions and their repercussions, of friends and chosen family. It's an experience. Maybe rather than streaming, prerecord a blind playthrough to upload. Those vocal minority are also awful backseat gamers and tend to try and explain the story to streamers rather than let them experience it

I think I have that similar ability of guessing story elements just by listening to the music alone, I know a couple of times I've guessed the story parts accurately just by listening to the soundtrack by itself. For example I heard the Halloween theme from Halloween decorations which by the music alone really caused a great sense of fear and unease, something about the music sacred me deeply as a child; I could sense it but didn't have the vocabulary to properly express it.

The “reminisce” quality you’re hearing is because this song contains the main leitmotif of the entire game in it. One thing I find fascinating is noticing various 'tells' to see if someone is self-taught as a composer versus 'classically' trained. Toby Fox's compositions absolutely feel self-taught; heavy use of leitmotif in every form, multiple moments where the music 'zags' where most composers will 'zig'...but what is by far the most important is: Does it work? Undertale is one case that shows, *abso-freaking-lutely*. Personally it's not my favorite OST, but the points where Toby Fox hits a home run, it's a mind-boggling level of spectacular.

the scene that that song accompanies is just as beautiful as the music. it's very sad, but also as you said, hopeful and full of innocence. as it plays you find out some incredibly important information to the story and it completely changes the way you view the game itself. needless to say, if the music alone was enough to make you tear up, if you were to play through the game and reach that point in the story, you would be full on ugly crying.

This is one of my favorites. It is indeed so sincere. And it brings back some pleasant childhood memories which I don't have very many of. When I close my eyes and listen, I am a kid in the Maine countryside. It's summer and there's a nice breeze. I'm eating berries off a bush and people are swimming nearby and everything is okay. It soothes my anxiety and depression.. It reminds me of my favorite quote from this game "Despite everything, it's still you"

Undertale became my favorite videogame for the quality of the story and characters, and the music that Toby Fox composed (that's right, the main dev also composed the entire soundtrack) is such a phenomenal vehicle for conveying both of them.
@nickpereira971 Жыл бұрын
0:47 You asking "Why is that so sincere" is perfect Toby has said that Undertale is His Theme in its truest form. It's the musical manifestation of Asriel's pain and regret, but also of the player's hopes, kindness, and determination. It combines those two opposing emotions perefectly

I don't even know what Undertale is beside that it was a very popular game few years ago. But this music does something to me...Like a melancholic journey that you were dragged along on and with time you didn't want it to end.

One of my favourite genre of videos on youtube is people rediscovering undertale, going "what the hell is this" and then get absolutely T-boned by emotional sincerity. Works every time!

After you get to the scene where this song plays, any line from that dialogue makes you instantly tear up I swear. The buildup to the moment, what the characters are saying, why they’re saying it, and to who they’re saying it. It’s all just a total gut punch. When you say it sounds like reminiscing about someone you love…that’s so accurate. Without spoilers, this song plays when some characters are reminiscing about others they all loved and how that love guides their hopes going forward.

long time ago, a human fell into the RUINS. Injured by its fall, the human called out for help. ASRIEL, the king's son, heard the human's call. He brought the human back to the castle. Over time, ASRIEL and the human became like siblings. The King and Queen treated the human child as their own. The underground was full of hope. Then... One day... The human became very ill. The sick human had only one request. To see the flowers from their village. But there was nothing we could do. The next day.... The human died. ASRIEL, wracked with grief, absorbed the human's SOUL. He transformed into a being with incredible power. With the human SOUL, ASRIEL crossed through the barrier. He carried the human's body into the sunset. Back to the village of the humans. ASRIEL reached the center of the village. There, he found a bed of golden flowers. He carried the human onto it. Suddenly, screams rang out. The villagers saw ASRIEL holding the human's body. They thought that he had killed the child. The humans attacked him with everything they had. He was struck with blow after blow. ASRIEL had the power to destroy them all. But... ASRIEL did not fight back. Clutching the human... ASRIEL smiled, and walked away. Wounded, ASRIEL stumbled home. He entered the castle and collapsed. His dust spread across the garden. The kingdom fell into despair. The king and queen had lost two children in one night. The humans had once again taken everything from us. The king decided it was time to end our suffering. Every human who falls down here must die. With enough souls, we can shatter the barrier forever.

You didn't have to say something meaningful, your reaction was enough. To see your honest emotions and to see the impact the music had on you is enough, because you now understand how emotional and impactful the music is.

This song really does something to you it feels like you embrace life the struggle the hardship the joy and laughter and put it in a song this is why undertale is my favorite game it helped me through some hard times I know that sounds crazy but it really did

yes, this song is everything! literally the culmination of everything undertale, it's truly the song to represent the story's underlying themes of grief in a community and coming together to take those tentative first steps towards recovery, hope, and joy. i pretty much always tear up whenever i listen to this song...on my first playthrough of the game, i managed to hold back my tears when this played, but ended up bawling at something that happens a little bit later. while undertale is overall a very fun and quirky vibe like you said, there are so many emotional, and even dark, moments. but the end feeling i always get from undertale is the sincerity, kindness, and fun that emanates from every aspect of the game, with the characters, themes, and music. someone else mentioned as well, but this is the only song that has a live instrument with the guitar strumming throughout the song! also, toby is seriously talented, being someone who doesn't have any formal musical training but composes based on his own feelings of what makes a song good. but he has been playing music all his life, so i think he has really nurtured his instincts for music thanks so much for sharing this video and glad you enjoyed the song!

I don't even remember how I came across Undertale, I just know it must have been a day or two after it came out. I looked it up on Steam, watched the trailer, and said ah what the heck. I knew nothing going in, and I wasn't expecting to play my first round in one sitting. I would finish my second go through the next day, and boy howdy what an experience it was. The characters of Undertale are forever etched into my heart. It's not a game for everyone, but I definitely recommend to anyone to at least give it a small look.

the thing with undertale is that.. it pours its whole heart and soul, its everything, into telling you the story. you can tell the whole thing is a huge labour of love, but more than that, the whole game feels alive in a way not a lot of media nowadays does. imo this song perfectly encapsulates that just because of how well everything fits together, from the simple guitar motif to the dropoff halfway through, the return of the piano with synth... perfection.

If you think this is touching, imagine growing up influenced by this game, forgetting about it for a few years, living your life, and hearing this emotional, nostalgic tune, along with your actual childhood memories of you connecting with every single one of the deeply written characters. This song has never failed to make me tear up AT LEAST, every time I hear it. Most of my middle school was riddled with beautiful experiences with this game, and I still talk to a few people I met because of a connection with this game. Seeing your face made me understand once again just how impactful this piece is, and how it's genuinely affected people's lives.

MY interpretation of this song is "It's you versus the world but the enemy is just as scared or hopeful as you are". In terms of the game without spoiling anything, THIS GAME CAN STRIKE HARD. The game definitely knows when to take itself seriously and some of it's plot points are insanely good.

I spent this whole video watching you slowly be brought to tears and thinking "ME TOO, FRIEND, ME TOO". I just wanted to give you both a high-five and a hug the entire time. Somehow this song captured nostalgia without itself actually being anything we remembered from our childhoods, Toby Fox just... figured out how to do it. You can't listen to this song and not feel proud of yourself for literally everything you've ever been through, you know?

I definitely recommend playing it blind without much outside input! just know that it's very much possible that you will have to replay it to get the full experience. I think some people often backseat because they are worried about a creator not actually doing that (not that they should still lol.) I hope when or if you play it, you have a good time!

Undertale is a game where there three different versions of it depending on how you play it. So there are about three different sound tracks to go along with each run. Also I think reason Undertale is so loved is because it is a show case of the type of story you can best tell with a video game.
@bubbykins48644 ай бұрын
Actually, if we measure off of endings, there are technically _93_ total versions, 89 if you factor out the probably-never-to-be-completed Hard Mode from what I can tell.

Undertale had came out when I was still in elementary, I was stuck in an unhealthy environment when I was with my dad. He was the only one who really helped me through that. Back on topic though undertale made me grow a strong hyperfixation still coming back to me, over the years I've been coming in and out of the fandom. The game had inspired me to make my own which I'm currently working on and it was a way for me to cope while going through stressful situations. My Favorite character was Papyrus, he was a character I was able to Latch onto. The game had brought me out of my shell and I became more confident and felt more comfortable with being myself. I can't really put it into words how much this game saved me from committing while I was between the ages of 6 to 12.

this music being so sincere, also building up over time as you get closer to the boss of the game, and then also tying up themes that you have heard throughout the game makes this piece absolutely amazing. at the start you feel sincere and start remembering the journey up until now, at the end you carry those thoughts with you as you walk forward to the future of what has to happen and that no matter what happens you will be ok.

When I first heard about Undertale, I had seen a thumbnail of it from a Jacksepticeye video. I thought it was the stupidest thing ever. But then I actually watched it as more of a “I like Jack’s content so we’ll give it a try” instead of actually being curious about the game. Oh how wrong my previous assumption about Undertale was. The moment I watched that first video, I had binged Jack’s entire series and I honestly think it saved me. I wasn’t doing so hot mentally(I’m not doing hot rn either so I should probably binge it again lol), and because I have a nasty tendency to silence any feelings I have that I, nor my parents, don’t like, watching that actually made me feel something again and it was such a powerful feeling. As of right now, Undertale holds, and will forever hold a special place in my heart. It is my top favorite game of all time, and will never change, no matter how great/epic the other two are. If anyones curious to my top 3 fave game lineup: 1) Undertale 2) Hollow Knight(i also recommend listening to one of those songs in the OST if you haven’t already, maybe Sealed Vessel if I had to pick. FYI It’s a boss theme so it won’t be as gentle/moving as Undertale.) 3) Sky: Children of The Light(it’s a mobile game but it’s still really pretty and fun. It has really pretty music too, but I think it’s too short to really be enjoyable like Undertale and Sealed Vessel.)

For someone who has never played the game, you pretty much nailed what's going on while this track is playing. Like, on the head. Wow. And you should definitely give Undertale another try. It is a quirky game that's sort of a love letter to old video games, but in many ways it's also a reflection on how people play those games and an examination into the ethical considerations of emotionally distancing ourselves from the character we play. It kind of fills you with DETERMINATION.
