I'm only 30 seconds in but couldn't resist to say YOU GUYS ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My wife and I are getting closer and closer to making a BIG change in our lives in order to spend a lot more time on the water. I was up at the marina today tending to our boat and became very depressed seeing a large number of boats pulled from the water being winterized and shrink wrapped. Hopefully we'll get one more fall outing on the water within the next week or two before the long wait for the start of the 2018 season. Your videos will help us get through the winter doldrums......PLEASE post fresh videos as much as possible! :-) We hope to meet up with you guys sometime!

A 44' TC just came available here in Seattle. Good to hear what you like and dislike. Our Bayliner 4087, also has the same issue with the holding tank. We feared we would have to cut apart the bed, but thank God it wasn't leaking after all.
@SearchingforCShels4 жыл бұрын
Are you going after that 44?
@thedawg57926 жыл бұрын
I'm not familiar with the Tollycraft construction, but most fiberglass boats are 2 part construction. The hull, and the cap. The cap is typically attached to the hull with screws that are then covered by the rub rail. If your boat is made that way, you could theoretically remove the cap to service or replace anything and everything in the boat, waste tanks included. Not an easy task of course, but might be better than cutting huge holes in decks.

@SearchingforCShels6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Joe! Did it really say tele crappy for Tollycraft? LOL The engine room isn't bad in the Tollycrafts. Better than most 44s with twins I have been on. Actually getter than some 50 footers I've been on. There is nothing I can't get to in the engine room. The hardest thing I'd say is the engine with the raw water pump on the outside of the engine. I have to use a mirror to unscrew the plate and replace the impeller.

Some folks really obsess about galley up - Im not sure they really put much thought into it - they just heard someone else say it usually with the rationale of the cook saying she* doesn't want to be locked away out of the action. I mean how often is that happening? How long do you need to cook for a handful of guests? The captain/ other half is usually spending more of his* time either in the engine room or under the hull - maybe the props and the engine should be out in the salon ;-). im all for equality but boating really has not taken to it much...
@SearchingforCShels Жыл бұрын
This boat (the 44 Tollycraft) is nice in that respect. Though it is a galley down, it does not feel cut off at all. head of the person in the galley is still in view of the entire salon. A tall person like me (Shel) and it doesn't feel like I've left the room. I do know some galley down boats where the cooks disappears. I'm not sure ery many people are catering to guests all the time. Rarely really. The location of the galley wouldn't be much of a consideration to us in a boat.

Like Your vids)) followed You for some time. Seems like this boat is fairly easy to maintain when it´s up to date and the economy surpized me. As to the washing machine I believe You made the same mistake than I did. I recomend You try a portable spin dry machine. First of all they are very light weight and come in all sizes. That means You can store it away in any corner or where ever out of the way. And when You wanna use it You just set it up in 2 minutes in any convenient location. That could even mean on the deck...... It´s just temporary. Second, since there is only a spinning cycle the energy requiered is only about some 15-20 amps for 1 hour,( 5-7 loads @ 8Lbs. So You don´t even need to run a generator. and the electrical installation is easy. Some of those machines also run on 12 volts and people use them in RVs. Third: Those machines are out of plastic and have only an electric motor. They cost around 100$ on Amazon. For that money I might not even bother to fix and buy a new one. What I most hate about the laundromat and marinas..... I have to carry the cloths, I have to do it every time because who knows when I get the next chance and than the boring task of waiting. Of course You can also give it away but than maybe You end up with some pants that are not Yours. When You really observe....after washing the semi drying with spinning is the most important part. After that it takes a fraction of time to dry with the wind and the sun. Mmm, and the sheets in the bedroom smell good.🍃🌸 🍃💕 Here is a mod that You might wanna check out but there are many on Amazon. Maybe also Walmart sells them. There are also lot´s of Ytube videos how they operate www.amazon.com/Best-Choice-Products-Portable-Capacity/dp/B01ICBLBL0/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_60_bs_img_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=49BCSEABH5SRGWCW7RHK Cheers

Do the tollycraft have cored decks, superstructure. Assume hand layed glass for hull. Thank you. A boat owner with his/her head screwed on right ... rare valuable find. Do you have window water intrusion like the taiwanese tubs?
@SearchingforCShels6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your kind comment. Yes as with most boats the superstructure is cored. It is balsa cored, so in looking at one, you would have to make sure the previous owners did their duty and rebedded hardware when needed. Yes most Tollys have a solid glass hull from the rubrail down. Although there are some older boats where they experimented with a synthetic coring in the hull. The windows are aluminum framed and are easily maintained and rebedded when needed. There is even a place on the west coast that will still make these exact windows for Tollycrafts. We've had 2 older Tollys now, and have never had a major window leaking issue. Any minor leaks were easily spotted and fixed. Thanks for the questions. Cheers!

Hi Guys, Fabulous video's. Having had the lower helm in the 44' now for a few years, what kind of weight do you give the lower helm's true use fullness and practicality? Wasted space, or still a "must have"? Narrowing down our search, and this something we're struggling with. Thanks in advance!
@SearchingforCShels5 жыл бұрын
We actually don't have the lower helm. We wanted one, but didn't get it. We are glad we didn't now, we can only think of a couple of times we might of used it, up north when it was cold. Otherwise it just takes up valuable space. Now, a pilothouse style boat may be a different story, I think we would use a pilothouse quite a bit.

Waste tanks are polyethylene so really should be good for the life of the boat. Always nice to have the option to be able to increase the size but that is one of the compromises you make in a boat. Same for water tanks - unless there is some physical damage it should be good too. Fuel tanks are another story. I too hate anything to do with my boat's waste system from the heads themselves to the macerators to the tank to the hoses. What's up for 2018?
@SearchingforCShels6 жыл бұрын
I hope you are right, however we have found the weak point in these systems is where the hoses attach to the tank. Over the years it can get brittle and crack if you use pump-out services that have really strong suction. Hopefully we will never have to worry about it. ;-) I think for 2018 we will head to the Chesapeake for Hurricane season then back down to the Bahamas for winter.

Can a bladder tank be used in black water tank??
@SearchingforCShels6 жыл бұрын
We thought of that. However we heard of some difficulties with bladders and pumpout systems. The sucking pressure of some pumpout systems can pull the bladder together and you can't empty the tank. Could even damage the bladder.

Thanks Malcolm! The ICW is the Intracoastal Waterway, some call it the Intercoastal Waterway. It runs from Norfolk, VA to Miami, and there is one in New Jersey as well. It is for the most part a protected waterway that allows one to cruise the east coast without having to go into the open ocean.

We did and have done no research on this boat... that said, we assumed a boat like that would be a shallow draft planing hull with no keel. Very rolly on the beam, and not able to track all that straight at slower speeds, which we travel most of the time. We tried to stay with a semi-displacement hull with a keel. That said we could be completely wrong. ;-)
