Wulf didn't betray anyone, he was a loyal solider. HE didn't know the real story of what happen between the Jedi and the Sith, all he knew is what he heard. He served Chancellor Palpatine and he was going to serve the EMperor. He didn't betray anyone, in his mind the JEdi are the traitors.

I always remember that image of Ahsoka visiting him in the hospital after she had made a huge mess of one of her early commands. That was always touching -and i still don't understand what the Jedi were thinking, giving her that much responsibility at 14! :) EDIT: I think one good analogy to the galactic Republic to galactic Empire is in the Roman Republic to Roman Empire. The Roman Republic died because of irreversible corruption. The Roman Empire was the only way forward from there -aside from all its parts splintering off into separate groups -which is what the Clone Wars had just decided over in Star Wars. Pause there for a moment, because if the separatists had succeeded, it would mean that the wars had just begun, because each system would in turn start fighting for its own independence -and can you blame them? The odds of the separatists co existing as one big happy family outside the Republic were almost nil. I think we all have very mixed feelings about the Roman Empire. But something that is undeniable is that it brought stability and physical infrastructure, goods and services to its realms. The galactic Empire in Star Wars also offered the promise of this security, but was obviously much less successful at implementing it.

That's what happens when you put most of your faith in the Force rather than sound judgement. Ahsoka Tano being put in command of soldiers in war is emblematic of this kind of thinking, and when you consider that her master was even more reckless than she was, it's easy to see why Yularen has no great love for the Jedi.

Have to wonder if on some level the fact that Ahsoka was innocent, yet the order turned on her so completely didn't also help accept the order being purged. I can understand him being angry with someone he believed betrayed the Republic, the fact she was revealed not be a traitor, not to mention it was another jedi who framed her... I'm kinda sad we haven't seen Ashoka interact with Yularin post order 66. I suppose it really would come down to what the public story surrounding Ahsoka and her ship going missing would have been. Their were no survivors, but Ahsoka had been out of the order for roughly a year before the supposed coup. If she was accused of being involved he might just see her as another Jedi, if, say, Palpatine decided to throw Anakin a bone and simply have it be known the ship went down with no survivors, let Ahsoka maintain her reputation as a war hero, maybe even say the Jedi were somehow involved in her "death". Then it could be a very interesting conversation.

In short, Wulff Yularen was loyal to the government and it's military, and that didn't change with the legal transition from republic to empire. It was never about Jedi and Sith, it was about peace and security. From his perspective, the change in government only improved the stability of the galaxy, as it went from total war to minor unrest and unpopular revolt. A few pirates and extremists instead of a large percentage of the galaxy shooting at each other. Mind you, he likely never knew the war was started by the one who created the Empire just so it would seem to be an improvement.....

@@NightRaven-lh1bf your examples for your second point actually prove you do need trust for betrayal. In the General case, they are in a position of trust. Doesn't matter if you've ever met them, they are naturally supposed to be trusted. As for the second example, there was no trust in the first place since they're competing , therefore there can't be bytrayal. Unless some is using illegal means to succeed in which case they were betrayed, since everyone is to trust the rest play by the rules. Both these show you need trust, in order for it to be called a bytrayal. That's why people "you betrayed me trust"

Asa Schuemann how could it be that, when the entire concept of the Empire was created by Palpatine in the first place? It was always meant to be ruled by people like Tarkin, Vader and the Emperor. It was rotten from the beginning. The Empire wasn’t built on higher principles. It wasn’t the ‘bad’ realization of a more ‘pure’ dream of the masses. All that nonsense about peace, stability and security was just the populist bait to fool well meaning people into serving evil. The fact that even fairly low level Imperial leadership tended to be corrupt, cruel and generally evil was not a ‘mistake’ in the system. It was the very essence of the system.

Very _very_ well done. I love how the CLone Wars (and other TV series) are able to take the SW universe into *SO* much more depth and subtly than the movies simply don't have time to. Instead of "Good vs. Evil" it's more of "People vs. People", all of which have their own motivations and goals. You can RELATE to this kind of storytelling far better than the oversimplified Hero's Journey that gets packaged up in a 2-hour story arc.

Considering he knew Anakin and his tactics pretty well I would imagine he would at the very least suspect Vader´s identity. After all he was able do identify Trench after one fight with him. Though he would probably not care enough about it to confront Vader about it in any way.

Great vid, and a fair assessment. I don't get why people say "joined the Empire" like he's changed sides though. When Palpatine transformed the Republic into the Empire, there wasn't a "do or don't" choice handed out to everyone. Every Republic officer was simply an Imperial officer now. And every Republic citizen was simply an Imperial citizen now. For example: when the Republic turned into the Empire, Commandant Pell Baylo rejected it in favour of the Republic, but he was already an Imperial officer.

There is a good reason why in zombie movies/tv series etc the beginning of the apocalypse is always left blurred, skipped over and not fleshed out and properly explained. And that is because zombie apocalypse is simpy an impossible scenario. For zombies to become the snowball effect doom we all know and love, an imposible number of things would have to go wrong in the beggining to the point of parody of human incompetence. Zombies are easy to kill and defend from unless there are swarms of them and the government is down, and there is no writter yet that could figure out how to it came to that in a convincing manner. That is why most information is left out or broadly generalised - the less information, the less plotholes.
@jiriseidl4376
@jiriseidl4376 5 жыл бұрын
@@NightRaven-lh1bf I am aware of this scenario and have not included it in my comment because 1. How many zombie movies tv shows actually have this? It is far more popular to have zombies rise about "naturaly", and if they are human made, then its an accident, therefore not under human control. 2. If humans launched the attack, they are naturally prepared. If a country´s goverment engineered the zombies, then that country will target a specific country to damage it, not the whole world, and certainly not itself. Most countries relly on the world for trade and wealth and that goes double for despots and dictators. In order for the zombies to spread, you´d need to use the weapon simoultaneously on multiple countries. I cannot imagine a governement willing to destroy each country on earth. Not even North Korea, as it rellies on China when it comes to trade. So we already need a non-existent governement that for some reason wants to destroy all of civilisation, has no allies or trade interests. And somehow, isn´t prepared for the apocalypse. If a terrorist group launched the attack, they would, again, target a specific group and country. So we need a hypothetical terrorist that wants to destroy the whole world. And somehow has this specific bioweapon. And wasn´t stopped. So we have a superpowerfull group, that is nihilistic at the same time, while world goverments totally fail to stop them. A bit more believable, but you still need sooo much going for the attacker and all to go wrong for the goverments.
@jiriseidl4376
@jiriseidl4376 5 жыл бұрын
NightRaven 1901 Ok, that is actually a pretty good scenario. What we seem to differ in is what we classify as “apocalypse”. For me, that is the whole world going down/being hit. WWZ being the best case scenario. What you have laid down I would call an outbreak, that will certainly take many lives, but not the world.

As a senior intelligence agent, Yularen likely knew about Bail Organa’s and Leia’s involvement with the Rebellion. Also, Alderaan society was very much into peaceful protest and passive resistance, e.g. refusing to enforce Imperial laws they disagreed with, particularly those concerning treatment of alien species and limiting personal freedoms. As a strictly law abiding Imperial officer and citizen, Yularen would have had little sympathy for people who tried to cherry pick which laws they would and would not obey, and who deliberately obstructed Imperial law enforcement agencies in their duty to uphold the law. Alderaan’s passive resistance had been a thorn in the Empire’s side for a very long time, it was the political centre of passive resistance to the Empire, and a rallying point for disaffected Imperial citizens. Although the Alderaanians had renounced warfare and violence themselves, their largely successful civil disobedience to Imperial law was encouraging people from other worlds who had no such ethical qualms to rebel against the Empire. You don't have to be a bomb-throwing anarchist yourself, or actively support those who are, to help create the political conditions in which groups of bomb-throwing anarchists can take root and thrive. (As we should know from events on Earth.) In many ways, the leaders and people of Alderaan had brought their ultimate fate upon themselves. Yularen may not have approved of Grand Moff Tarkin’s drastic ‘Final Solution’ to the problem of Alderaan, but he would have certainly sympathised with the Emperor’s political frustrations concerning Alderaan, and understood why Palpatine had given Tarkin a completely free hand in how to resolve the issue once and for all.

Yularen may not have known about Order 66, and he may not have known about Palpatine being a Sith Lord who liked to kill droves of people and such facts creating the "assassination" attempt (because, really, Sith and Jedi have NO rules about how many you bring to a fight to take down the other) , but he sure knew about blowing up Alderaan and plans on doing similar destruction in other systems ... he sure knew the fear that was created by the Empire (as opposed to the general confusion and discontent about the Jedi), and he CERTAINLY knew that corruption wasn't weeded out because of the name change from "Republic" to "Empire" ... and we ALL saw how he responded to one of his colleagues being choked to death AT A MEETING simply for voicing a disagreement and disbelief in a power that most had not known about BECAUSE of those in power, harsh though that expression may have been. Having worked with Jedi who never choked their military colleagues for having a differing opinion and then totally accepting a Sith Lord and ruling body that totally dealt with leadership changes due to the overly sensitive whims of a grown version of the young Jedi he once knew (although, I guess he didn't know that was Anakin), well ... he's either an opportunist, a morally bereft person, or a person who did not realize that he had a penchant for evil behavior until the world changed. He's firmly on the bad side, IMHO. I totally understand him not liking the Jedi behavior of elevating their ranks to "General" on a whim , and then putting those people in charge of vast number of lives ... that is a BS move of MANY BS moves that the Jedi undertook. But, participating in PLANET DESTRUCTION ... to TEST a weapon? Watching the death of your colleague without batting an eye? Yeah ... he's an "OTHER" for me: one who is ACTIVE in the downfall of civilized discourse and embraces or even just accepts the evil around them as long as they prosper. One of the many who were necessary for the Empire to prosper and continue crushing others ... all for Palpatine's drive for power and eternal life. He could have retired and taken on a desk job, but he desired to be in the room where it happened and at the table where a good choking or promotion could be had by any who walked out of the room. I guess you can tell I disagree with some of the conclusions regarding Yularen's baseline personality as set forth at the end of the video.

So when a behind the scenes Sith coup occurs then Palpatine can say the Jedi are bad and nobody knows there is another side. The Sith owned the legitimate government and revoke any credibility the Jedi have as commanders and generals. Officers will stay in the chain of command and that's game. Technically he just kept doing his job. Personal feelings were not the point. He didn't have enough info on the truth to make another call. That's the fault of the Jedi. And despite de many critics i have about the episode 8, i got to admit they did a really cool job in throwing all that stupid maniqueistic/ left vs righ, vison of things away, specially by making Luke a grey dedi and the hacker guy teaching Finn not to full himself with ideological propaganda

Well, I think they did not make this right because then they should not made the FO to a even dumber, more self-destructing version of the Empire. If they had shown more people like Sloane, Thrawn, Pellaeon etc... The FO and it leading personal is so comical BAD that you could hardly take them serious as a fictional faction. All that yelling etc...

Yeah.. which is ironic for a movie in real life that's full of left vs right, idealogical ideals.
