Excited for the fz build. You boys covered some good points and interesting discussion. But you're right. Cost and bang for buck is a major factor. Whilst you do lose out on economy with the fzt vs diesel, you save massively in build costs. That 15-30k savings can pay for a lot of petrol. Otherwise you've got really easy doable power. I've decided I'm doing a turbo build on my fz 105. Glad to see it's getting it's props rather than being thrown in the bin like in the past

I daily drove my turbo 1fz for 13 years. Blowing away meathead patrols from the lights was my favourite. Off road they have plenty of low down grunt still. They will tonk along under 900rpm comfortably.

I am not a Yota driver but the whole Diesel Vs. Petrol has the reliablity side. Many newer vehicles regardless of spark or glow plug use are NOT designed to last 500+thou kays. Small engines that are pushed too hard to keep up with bigger cubed engines simply don't last. There is a reason why you don't see a spark plug in a truck and displacements are usually well into double digits of litreage. Remeber, the most efficient hauler today is a huge displacement, 2-stroke turbo diesel-electric. -Petrol is cheap power for short duations and life. -Diesel is $$$ to get ponies but will do it all day, every day for a long time (not suicide tuned).

Have you seen the price of diesel atm. Today in Sydney only about 16 - 18c difference between diesel and ULP. On the weekend it was $1.65/l for ULP and diesel was still $2.14/l. I did a quick calc assuming a diesel was getting 17L/100k based on $$ alone the petrol could be running at 22.5L/100. Granted more K's per tank for diesel but at a premium cost.

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on giving it a bit of a birthday, not looking for stupid power, just a bit more performance when towing and wheeling , something along the lines of minimum boost if I decide to turbo it and what I would need to do to the engine if I was to go with the idea of turboing it
