Wouldn't it be too obvious that king of the pirates would leave his son with his bestfriend or right hand, world government would be on Rayleigh's ass if they found he had a kid with him. Even though Rayleigh kept a low profile, still marines were aware of his whereabouts. It would have been a dumb move on Roger's part to leave Ace with Rayleigh. But Roger pulled out the smartest move in this situation, leave Ace with a man of morals in the marines, garp. No way garo would let Ace die because of things Roger did. A child shouldn't be punished for its parents crime. That's what garp believes. The same reason he kept luffy away from himself. No one wants to seperate themselves from their child. But olivia had to distance herself from Robin to protect her which she failed at, dragon didn't let the world know that he had a son ,or else luffy would have died a long time ago.

No one knew Roger had a son until Sengoku told everyone at the Marineford battle. They had no reason to think Roger had a surviving kid. There was a genocide of babies born after Roger’s death. That’s why Ace’s mom kept delaying her labor and didn’t give birth until 2 years after Roger died. Rayleigh couldn’t have known. It was a shock to everyone there.

If it was Rayleigh vs 3 admirals + the navy sure, but it was WHITEBEARD and ALL of his Lieutenants and like a DOZEN other pirate FLEETS plus a ton of the world's WORST prisoners from Impel Down, Luffy, and ex WARLORDS vs 3 admirals and the navy. Getting into an anime that has so many episodes may scare you but watching 20 different animes that have 12 or 22 episodes and watching one that has more than a thousand episodes are not that different as long as you enjoy them. One piece is long but we the viewers still want more because it is far too entertaining and intriguing. Just try it and you will love it.
