This might be a controversial opinion but I think people would hate an overtuned sephiroth more than current steve and kazuya. Kazuya is fun to watch because combos are cool and steve while typically campy, has some unique aspects to him that can make him entertaining. Sephiroth would just be the ultimate stay away from me character, without any sauce and it would be not fun to watch

i want shadow flare's orbs to be able send in soooo bad it would actually make the move as scary as everyone thought it would be people have gotten pretty good at playing around the move (like air dodge timings and just going to ledge) but having 3-5 could easily let seph setup into a kill option like up air, backair, or even up smash

Seph worse than Sora. Sora top 15, it's just his execution barrier to succeed is so high that only Kameme and Hikaru have had big success with him so far. Very similar to Peach and Daisy

Ill main Seph till the end but im sad to see that he struggles alot with not enough coverage in exchange for reach. So catching someone is so hard. I think they could have tweaked somethings like endlag and making thtinks not so punishable. Also i find that sometimes side clanks with every sword and back air making seph kinda frustrating to play sometimes. I love him i just wish he had that edge that made him more viable

Sephiroth is probably the least cheesy DLC character next to Sora. He doesn’t feel like he was designed deliberately to help players get easy wins like Pythra. In a game where so many characters have safe long ranged attacks that do 1000% & or kill at -12% characters like Sephiroth kinda just fall off.

Would be so easy to fix him from being underwhelming. He's far too light. He should be slightly above average weight. His nair should come out on frame 6 instead of frame 9 so that he has a working out of shield option besides footstool dair which requires you to be very close to your opponent. He also needs a little more grab range. He can keep all his other weaknesses. The weight buff would help him massively, because he'd be able to use his wing so much more. The nair buff would also be a big buff. I also think uncharged neutral b fireball should come out faster and have less endlag so that he can actually use it to set up for other stuff if the opponent gives him time to throw it out, and I also think uncharged up-b should come out faster and also have 2-3 frames less endlag. Currently I think putting Sephiroth anywhere above the huge amount of mid tiers in the game is ridiculous. He's not good. He's mediocre and its a shame because he's a cool character which people like to watch.

I feel like sephiroth is maybe a better character online - punishing projectiles and parrying is generally harder, both of which are problems for sephiroth since his moves are laggy. either way he’s a ton of fun to play, even if he’s not the best pick for tournament performance

You can AC upair with an idj, (it makes upair frame trap dramatically better), and sf isnt hard hit because its "narrow" and there is some tech to make it hit lower as well so its hard to lowprofile if the seph is good, and his grab game is alot stronger then shown, upthrow is generally a better comho at lower% leading to atleast a 35/40ish % combo. and for your point about seph being reactable, he just barely on the tip of reactable, making people have to commit to those options to defend against them, which if the seph learns to abuse it can get insanely good for seph (ie tomahawking because his shff is one of the fastest in the game, so people have to commit to either a parry to be able to punish, or spotdodge, which gets beaten if the seph just empty hops, or lands with sf and charges to delay the hitbox to over shielddrop or spotdodge.

average human reaction time is 12/16 frames + delay (6 frames) makes it quite hard to just straight up react to sephs jump since its frame 18 (16 with wing) but yea not saying dabuz was entirely incorrect but he did undervalue alot of options seph can do, also an underratted thing for sephiroth is his skinniness, which people dont realize is good, for example because of it, Kazyua dthrow ewgf isnt true of seph because of it, there are more examples but I don't personally know them so I won't be listing them

also Shadow flare seph can abuse drastically extend his combo game, the orbs sending away isnt really too bad because of our range it allows us to hit them most of the time anyway, or our speed in general (with or without wing) allows us to follow up on sf explosions.

I agree with some of this. However, I think he’s underrated and still a good character. He’s just a high tier version of Joker. He requires a lot of precision and work, but most people aren’t willing to put in effort like that. Hence why players drop him, weaknesses aside.

as a huge fan of ff and ff7 i really was excited for sephiroth and i do enjoy playing him but its obvious where they made him intentionally weaker in some aspects. Like i almost wanna say that they gave him the tiny nair because they were afraid of giving him a nair like smash 4 clouds or something (even though other swordies keep a big fast nair in ultimate ) His nair as it is rn is a very good move but i kind wonder if they made his fair and bair so horizontal and his nair so short range in fear of making him too long ranged. Like he doesnt have a shulk fair or hero bair type of arc. His up air is prettt insanely long though

I feel like there’s such a fine line between Sephiroth being under tuned or completely busted. Imagine if he had small frame tweaks like uair having less landing lag, side b not being negative or at least neutral on hit from mid range, etc. His risk reward would be nuts if he could press buttons like some other characters could.

bro how can you say sora is worse than seph, you gotta be only top player that thinks that at this point. he has less mobility, no combos/kill confirms, dies earlier, noticeably slow frame data, no good out of shield options, jank hitboxes, lighter than sora and barely plays w his comeback mechanic, laggy moves, predictable, and cant press as many buttons as other really good characters. sure he makes up w range and edge/ledge guard options but more disadvantages than advantages

Seph is definitely the 2nd worst in FP2 but he's still a very strong character and a high tier. Saying that he is near the bottom of a group of very strong characters doesn't mean a whole lot. He's still above average for all DLC with FP1 and FP2.

Shadow flare is not a move for setups, it's a "get off me" tool. It's a way for Sephiroth to pressure up close with little risk because if he gets reversed the orbs will eventually stop the enemies assault.
