I think it’s great that you include your daughters in these exercises. When I got my driver’s license 50 years ago, my dad taught me how to safely change tires, check the battery, all fluid levels, and tire pressure, and how to fill the tank with gas (self service gas stations were new and we only had one with that option in our neighborhood) He thought it was important for his daughter to be able to handle basic things. One Friday I went to my car to go to the football game and had a flat tire. I went back in the house and told him I had a flat tire. His response was I better hurry up and change it or I would be late for the game😂😂😂. I did the same thing with my kids when they got their licenses.

I just put this in my shopping cart bc may need when I switch up the wheels and hubs I just got. You really ought to have something in your title suggesting it's about wheel hub adjustment to stop tire vibration to help, and to reach more people imho. Good on you for teaching your daughter!
@austinsock2 жыл бұрын
You are right, the hub rings are only for helping align the wheel. You technically don't need them for alignment, if the person installing the wheels is careful to constantly center the wheel as you are initially tightening the lug bolts. The reason being is the lug bolts are almost always cone or spherical in shape and will center the wheel, if done carefully. Also, I wouldn't worry about replacing the lug bolts yet (I worked at a tire/brake/alignment shop for over 5 years, everything from passenger vehicles to large tractors.) There are several lug bolts on each hub, so even if one cracked or is failing, it's highly unlikely a majority of them are. Just be sure to inspect them when removing the wheels for cracks/stretching/damaged threads/corrosion/etc, but when you do see these signs, it's always a good idea to replace all of them, on at least that hub, since the other ones may be soon to follow.

@hanksnowden52882 жыл бұрын
Relaxation. Torque "relaxes" usually the most within a few days. I would re-torque all the bolts especially since using that alignment ring just to ensure all pressure is against the bolts and none goes to the plastic alignment ring causing the problem again.

May I suggest that you get a long bolt (same thread obviously) or take a lug stud and cut the head off and use one or multiple as alignment studs. This will help so the wheel does fall off then trying to spin the wheel on the hub to align bolt holes!

Morning HAX. Very helpful video since so many folks buy after-market rims to fancy up their rides and don't realize this super important consideration exists. We put winter tires and rims on our cars here each year and a good garage knows to look up the hub centered measurement required for your specific car. I had one shop try to put the wrong rims on last year on my daughter's car. Fortunately I knew better before I bought them. Cheers!

Wonderful videos, great job with the contect and the editing, is so nice. The only issue with plastic hub centering rings is if you ever do any mountain or heavy braking. The heat generated by disc will melt them making a plastic mess to clean up and you'll need to repurchase hub centric rings.
@regularpit15082 жыл бұрын
We had a Ford Suv and the wheel hubs weren't built for the extra strain from a low profile since they don't cushion as wheel on our kind of bad roads. We had them all replaced at 70,000 Miles on the stock rims before going to regular tires. We don't like low profiles since when we did finally get rid of them the ride quality was so much better.

Speaking as a Auto Tech you need to replace the lug bolts, you can cause stress frackers in the shank of the bolt when you don't have the alignment right with hub-centric rims. It's mostly a safety thing and peace of mind thing, and they're not really that costly so cheap insurance for the safety of the family.
@HAXMAN2 жыл бұрын
So if you’ve driven the car without the rings that can cause fractures and then you should replace the bolts? Is that correct?
@TdrSld2 жыл бұрын
@@HAXMAN correct, the rim will "wiggle" and "shimmy" as the torquing force was not even on the faces of the rim and hub. This can cause the wheel to hub interface to "move" ever so slightly as the vehicle drives down the road and that put a lot of stress on the bolts. This is were some of the vibration comes from along with the wheel not being centered on the center line of rotation of the hub. The clamping force of the lugs/bolts at the faces of the hubs and rim flange is what carries the weight of the vehicle. This is why its very import to have a flat clean surface when bolting and torquing the wheel back down to the hub. Sorry if this is hard to read, being Dyslexic @F is why I build the cars/trucks and not wright the users manuals HAHA
