I heard of stories where children are taken to the orphanage or get adopted without one of the parents knowing (like in the case of Kim Jaejoong) after a divorce or separation which I found heartbreaking and not done. But getting a divorce and then act like your child never existed and keep it hidden for your future spouse?! Are those people even human?! I know bloodlines are important in Korea but this is next level. How terrible for the child to know they are so unwanted and just thrown in a corner as if they where a broken toy they could throw away. How damaging that is for the child.

In Finland (I am Finnish) people usually live together for several years before getting married (some never marry even when they have kids) and the good thing about it is that no-one can fake stuff for years everyday (unless they are some kind of psycopaths) so when you finally marry someone you already know how many times in a day they take a shower or brush their teeth.. 😊

I agree with many points but the chore one is weird. Per observations Koreans would spend less time overall on chores as they live in smaller spaces in managed flats/apts (lawns, facilities mantained by specialists) and often have alot of home appliances like robot vaccum cleaners (which also mop), dishwashers, washing machines etc. Most things are delivered to door everywhere including online shopping, fresh ingredients, complete meals etc. People are generally spend less time on food, eating out is affordable, or they have a quick meal using prepackaged meal kits or instant food or delivery. I've observed people generall spend less time on chores overall in Korea, no lawns to mow, no shed to fix etc. It should be weighted as percentage against total time spent doing chores in the household.

Divorce by fault makes it much harder to divorce when domestic violence exists. These things are hard to proof especially when there is a culture where other people look away as it is private matter. In Germany there is a no fault divorce but you must proof you are separated for a year. Normally by asking for a divorce with the state and wait. The state hopes the couple could solve their issues.

Korean-American here. My parents divorced when I was young. My mom wanted all her kids, me plus my 2 sisters (typical American experience). Dad hardly ever paid child support. Fast forward decades later and she re-marries. My new Korean step dad also had a son from a previous marriage in Korea and I met him. He was raised by his uncle (dad's brother). Turns out the mom wanted nothing to do with her son for the sake of her future/new husband. When I pieced that together, I was shocked. Watching this video and now it makes sense. Damn, South Korea can be pretty savage. I'm in my 40s now and single. I've resigned to forgo marriage for the reasons you outlined here plus others.

For that man with the wife giving his money away to her mom. Simple, he prevents her from having access to any of his money. He removes her from the process and only buys what they would need for the house. If she wants more she can get a job. Or he could move out and abandon her to the point she asks to divorce. At this point she obviously cares more about her mom and herself so he can use anything outside of breaking laws to make her leave. He can play the petty long game.

my korean husband lied about his mom's health issues and then started a relationship with a woman he was clearly attracted to and tried to say she was his 'sister'. He decided to leave me when I was 7 months pregnant. Luckily, we had moved to America where the courts favor the mother and once he left I knew the custody of my baby was secure, but I just hate how Korean parents feel like they can interfere with relationships. If my mom and his parents had left us alone, we probably would not have been divorced. His parents told him to lie to me which caused him to emotionally drift away from me. My mom caused a lot of issues as well. I hate what the situation has done to my life, but there is no going back.

No wonder why Korean women don’t want to get married. I would not be a slave of the in-laws. Na ah I’m glad I live here in Puerto Rico you don’t have to do anything for the in-laws unless you want to. ❤
