Why Do African Americans Always Vote Democrat? | America Politics

Every presidential election cycle there is an interesting trend of some 80 to 90 percent of the black vote going to the democratic candidate. Republicans are confused by so many African Americans continue to support the Democratic party both on account of the historic relationship between the Republican Party and African Americans, and the very evident social conservatism of many blacks in America. What exactly is behind black politics?

There is nothing xenophobic about advocating for your people's interests. The tribalism on the African continent pales in comparison. Did the Japanese advocate for other groups when they got their tangibles from WW2? When did Mexicans ever advocate for another latino group? They vote Democrat because they simply hate White people and view the GOP as the White people’s party-which based on its voter base basically is. Republicans will also never be able to match the free gibs Dems provide them. So if the GOP wants to appeal to black voters they will either have to throw their White base under the bus or become a welfare party, and both are totally unacceptable. Let’s focus on the actual base that forms the core of this country, because we don’t have time to focus on pipe dreams

If Republican is ever elected in one of these areas, they need to improve results ASAP. Democrats had 60 years to make these places better but Chicago is worse then Venezuela according to the migrants comming there. If they become tough on crime, and decrease barriers for entry for companies to come back, black people can be supplied with Jobs again. Tax money from this should be redirected into elementary and high schools, with the expressed goal of keeping kids in school. The progressive vision of let the few bad apples terrorize everyone else and drag the entire city into poverty is clearly not working. The Democrats promised to help these people and they either lied or fail for 50+ Years. Now it's time for some change.

I really only know a few very leftist blacks across California, Oklahoma, and Texas. I don't think we are as liberal as portrayed in the media. It's just that whenever we have a movement Democrats get behind it. That's the exact reason why conservatives vote Republican. When they have their issues Republicans come to back them.. You vote for the ppl you believe will back your issues the most. Republicans act like it's rocket science. They don't have to do it the Democrat way. Come to back blacks on an issue using small government and libertarian talking points.

I like this video! It doesn’t simplify the black motivation to the “gibs me that” that most conservatives think we use. For the simple fact that since the 1940s the Democrats-that is Northern Democrats until the 1970s from then most Democrats-were/are perceived as much friendlier to Civil Rights and the poor, which African Americans are disproportionately poor. It was under Democratic administrations that the military was desegregated (Truman) major civil rights acts and voting rights acts (LBJ) and things like affirmative action (LBJ and the Republican Nixon); the New Deal in the 1930s under FDR (and some attention to Civil rights) and then the Great Society under LBJ in the 1960s. Liberal and moderate Republicans were quieter than Northern Democrats in support of Civil Rights (if only because they didn't have the higher profile Presidency during most of the 1960s) while Conservatives-Republicans and Democrats-were perceived at best indifferent and at worst hostile to Civil Rights and the poor.
@adamperdue3178
@adamperdue3178 6 ай бұрын
It's not like the Democrats were the only ones who cared about Civil Rights though. While Truman ordered the military to desegregate, Eisenhower was much more aggressive in enforcing it. The military had not actually fully desegregated under Truman's presidency, but it was under Eisenhower. Eisenhower also saw to the aggressive enforcement of the desegregation of schools, such as the 'Little Rock 9' incident where he literally sent in the Army to make sure that a handful of black students in Arkansas were able to attend a white school without harassment. Even with the 1964 Civil Rights Act, though it was pushed by Democrat President LBJ, the votes in the House were 69% to 31% in favor by the Democrats, but 82% to 18% in favor by Republicans. Same story in the Senate- 63/37% split for Democrats, and 80/20% split for Republicans. In the Senate especially, many clever workarounds were used because Democrat James Eastland threatened to kill the bill in the Senate Judiciary Committee, so the committee was bypassed. A group of Democrat Senators (+ a single Republican) then filibustered the bill. So the common narrative of the Democrats pushing through the Civil Rights Act with the Republicans kicking and screaming in resistance is a complete falsification- the Republicans were always in favor of Civil Rights, but never had the votes until the Democrats decided to get behind it themselves. (Though there were notable exceptions, such as Barry Goldwater who was notably running for President against LBJ and opposed the Civil Rights Act)
@yee2631
@yee2631 6 ай бұрын
@@adamperdue3178 I think Goldwater's vote against the 1964 civil rights act had a massive role in the GOP coming to be associated with anti-civil rights politics. It's one thing to show how a larger proportion of congressional republicans supported it, but it's hard to make a convincing argument when the party's presidential nominee was actively leaning into his opposition to the bill to appeal to Southern conservatives who were bitter about the end of segregation. This opportunistic strategy did pay off in cementing Southern whites as a reliable GOP voting bloc, though it cost Goldwater everywhere else aside from a handful of states in the deep south.

@@yee2631 yeah it was a bad political play by Goldwater, and a really good political play by LBJ. Makes one wonder how history would have panned out if say, Nixon won in 60 and pushed the Civil Rights Act then. South staying loyal to the Democrats (who in turn keep having to court the South to stay in power) while cementing the GOP as the Civil Rights party. The Republican Party, free of having to kowtow to their new Southern supporters, would then be probably quite different than it is today. Makes me wonder how different it would be, and if it would be something I might actually support personally as an Economically Right/Socially Liberal person. But then we would also be stuck with a Democratic Party that probably never would have went through a reform period and would still have a large section of the party openly supporting racist policies as opposed to the Republican Party that at least had to downplay their policies in order to keep their support outside of the South. Perhaps it would end up in a formalized party split (opposed to the informal split between Southern Democrats and Northern Democrats) which would leave the Southern Democrats as a regionalist party- which if anything would strengthen the stranglehold racist politicians would have on the South, though decreasing their significance federally. Would make for an interesting alt-hist topic at the very least.

Let's say someone tries to form a real Christian nationalist party, Republicans notice it is taking away at their base and will do anything to stop it in order to avoid a Democrat president. Because both parties have a monoply on their side they do not want to give it up or they will risk giving the other side a advantage. That's the obvious thing in this video that is being left out. And then you read comments and see the comments.. the anti black comments, are they from ppl who vote Democrat or Republican? What I understand is that they are just a small minority of the Republican party. But when I am flipping other blacks to vote more conservative and point them towards more centered media these comments are what they see. Republicans are their own downfall. Blacks, Asians, and Hispanics have conservative cultures but vote mostly Democrat bc of what you see reading through the comments. But I do think it's getting better. More and more black ppl are being outright conservative but when a large chunk actually do go Republican... Are Republicans just going to be hostile towards them and push them away from the party? I think yes. And what will happen is it will force there to be specifically black conservative groups and communities and they will in fight with the racist Republicans. And at some point the party as a whole will have a choice to make. Accept the conservative minorities or continue pandering to the racist.

The notion African Americans are conservative on social issues is a bit of a myth. They are, in fact, the most liberal demographic in terms of age, gender, race, region, education, and household income aside from generic partisan Democrats. Furthermore, their concern for abortion, lgbt, and family-related issues is low compared to white voters. The religiosity of African Americans doesn't translate to conservative social values. Indeed, African Americans attending church once a week are still 3x less likely to be Republicans than Whites who never attend services at all. The correlation between religiosity and conservative Republicanism only really works with Evangelical Christians and to a much lesser extent with White Catholics. The reason, as I see it, is that Black Christian theology is more focused on creating a just society at the local level rather than nationalism or moral purity.
@ulfskinn1458
@ulfskinn1458 6 ай бұрын
Most Black Christian theology is all about removing personal responsibility. "It's the devil that done got into these chill'n" as opposed to accepting a lack of parenting. "We are living in babylon" as opposed to addressing the actual issues holding your society back. "The devil is in them that do drugs, prostitutes, gang-bangers, etc." as opposed to facing th reality of your own circumstances. It is very appealing to those living in generally pretty hopeless environments. Not all Black churches are like this, of course. But for the most part Black theology generally focuses on the "let go and let God" concept, that is the divne will in literally everything. That concept probably carries over from reformist thought in Presbyteriansim and Methodism, both of which were very popular in the antebellum South.

The United States political parties have always been heterogeneous because anti-democratic mechanisms like FPTP and the Electoral College impose a bipartisan straightjacket onto a nation of multipolar political communities. @@catmonarchist8920 Yes, that's true. I'm Canadian. And I said "seeks to impose a bipartisan straitjacjket", from which one can infer that these mechanisms are sometimes only partially successful at achieving this aim. There are vast swathes of Canada that have little meaningful political competition or incentive for democratic participation due to FPTP (rural Western Canada, rural and small-town Ontario, the entire Western half of Montréal Island, etc) and every party apparatus (even ones you'd probably not expect, like Québec Solidaire) operates under the assumption that it will govern alone and that any inter-partisan collaboration is an abberation meant to be tolerated at most. Our elections tend to be decided by a handful of affluent suburban ridings that regularly swing between our two dominant political parties, and that gives these areas a disproportionate influence over our political discourse, imho. If we move to the right proportional system (pretty much anything that's not Dutch or Spanish would be an improvement, though I feel it's important to guarantee Indigenous representation and to weight geographic constituencies in favour of sparsely areas, with proportionalizing mechanisms being used to ensure a fair partisan make-up), there'd no longer be an incentive to take less competitive rural and urban core regions for granted and we'd have every region duly represented in the government caucus and cabinet irrespective of which parties are in government. Mercifully, we don't have the Electoral College and we have far less partisan gerrymandering, though you'd need either PR or high-magnitude STV to really prevent it altogether.

what are those concerns? not crime since they vote dem to keep the police from doing work and they dont call it out since its not a problem compared to the huwheats. to "uplift" the community is free gibsmedat, yes, you're concerned only about free stuff and ways to get out of working.

@@matty_muerteNot really, both parties are distinctly pro-Israel and anti-⚪, it's just that Democrats have no problem casting shadows over the entire ⚪ American population openly, whilst the Republicans are just quietly anti-⚪ or "anti-racist" as you might put it.

@@useritiswhatitis4655 lol and you are the reason Black people vote Democrat. If you wanna talk about "Democrat run cities" Eric Adams, the Mayor of NYC is a Black Democrat who LOVES the NYPD. So much so that he wants drones monitoring peoples get togethers. Black Democratic Mayor Elect Cherelle Parker in Philly wants to bring in THE NATIONAL GUARD to solve crime problems in the city's Kensington section. FFS these are things Republicans would be in favor of. So please STFU about free stuff.

Sounds like there is a lack of logic and reasoning in the black community, and yes emotions can get in the way of good judgment or again, simple logic and reasoning. My advice to the Black community would be don't let your emotions enslave you and those close to you, make clear minded choices that will promote a better life for yourselves, and ultimately come to the understanding that it isn't about the Black community, White community, Asian community or Latino community, but about "We the People". This thinking will lead us to a better America, making better political choices and fundamentally bringing to us more enjoyable lifestyles.

I was right, it's because the Dems promote programs that help their careers with ED&I initiatives (diversity hiring, equality, etc.) and provide hand-outs. Totally understandable they will vote for the party that gives them the most perks. And this is one of the fundamental flaws of Democracy. Black people support the party that gives them the most perks, which makes sense, but at a large cost to other citizens and the country as a whole. Whites, Asians, and Jews are amongst groups that lose out on jobs/promotions to visible minority groups in the name of ED&I. This means the economy is not competitive because the best candidates (based on merit) are not always selected for openings. Additionally, it teaches minority groups like Black Americans they do not need to work as hard to achieve their goals, which holds them back as well. How do you reach your full potential if nobody is challenging you?

A key insight not mentioned here is that during the great "realignment" of the political parties during the 1960s/70s, Black Americans joining the Democratic Party watched as many of their fellow white Americans, particularly those that spent years /decades fighting against civil rights, left the Democrats and went over to the Republicans. The most high profile example is Strom Thurmond. Ever since, Republicans have been more and more committed to preying upon white America's anti-Black -later anti-minority-sentiments particularly in the South. You want to see black people turn on the Democrats? Watch what happens when the KKK starts voting for Dems again.
