People really need to know EXACTLY how long this medication takes to work. It took FIVE months for me to become level on this med and the journey to get there was more than a little bumpy. I don't think people are given all the facts when they are prescribed these. When people hear 'be patient' and 'it takes time' many will think that means days and weeks... but not months! I think there needs to be more transparency among medical professionals and pharmaceutical companies about this.

You bring up a very important point. Thank you. I agree with what you're saying.

It's a lottery, many would get a recovery of sorts months later regardless of drugs...So what an Ace card for drug companies, wake up...

@@roamingwildcampers2745 Oh, I totally agree and, up until recently, I had managed without. Unfortunately, I was put on meds after having a complete mental breakdown last year, and I probably wouldn't be here now, writing this comment, without them.

@@victoriawilson7292 How do you know Victoria, really...Best way is to taper down slowly a few beads at a time (open capsule) over 3 months GRADUALLY...Use Fish oil and a good magnesium to help, put in a good fitness program (Weights and cardio) and see how you go...IF it doesn't work as I am certain it will , you can go back on the druggies...Remember stress is the major cause of nervous exhaustion, don't be hard on yourself it's not a mental breakdown, it's mental exhaustion ok...Be kind to yourself..Being well is not happy or sad, it's being..Love and Strength to you..

@@roamingwildcampers2745 Thanks for the advice but I think I know myself a little better than you do. I'm somebody who has barely taken a paracetamol my entire life! And I don't drink alcohol. Trust me, I wouldn't be taking these meds if I didn't need them.

I’m taking lexapro for anxiety, seems like when you take it for anxiety it takes way longer, and makes anxiety way worse in the beginning. 2 months from your last dose increase for me.

Very true the only period that sucked for me was the 1st 3 or 4 weeks on 25mg. The as I gradually went up to 150 mg that I’ve been on for months now there was no “ramping” up it was seamless from one dosage to another

When you do an increase how long does it take to feel better. I just got bumped to 100 it’s been a week. I feel ok but my mood is yuck

Is it important when you are taking anti depressant to do exercise ? Not just to rely on meds alone ?

Ignore the negative comments. Taking SSRI is like a plane taking off and gradually climbing to its cruise altitude. It takes a bit of time and effort time but it’s worth it.

my SSRI, sertraline, (for OCD, not depression) is so slow acting it's hard to notice any change. Whereas I tried an Adderall tablet and in 20 minutes I was impressed by the thought calming change. Like I just came out of a long meditation session. (will have a very different effect if you don't have adhd.)

^^ I take Lexapro 20, along with Wellbutrin xl 150 and Adderall 20 mg for severe adhd, severe depression, and severe OCD. Wellbutrin and Adderall will make a lot of people climb up the walls, but in my case, I actually feel calm. Funny enough, I found 10 mg and 15 mg of Aderall to make me feel more "wired" and "jumpy" than 20 mg.

@@dannyllerenatv8635 I get that! I'm increasing adderall to 30mg. Thanks for sharing. I've been told about Lexapro to consider, but the doctor says it might not be worth the slow transition from the Zoloft which I'm doing okay with for now, for OCD.
