That was one of the best details about AC Syndicate: the twins only wore their hoods when sneaking and otherwise looked like normal, everyday people and blended into crowds better. It was also nice to see an AC game where the characters carried more subtle weapons. Brass knuckles, cane swords, and khukiri blades are much easier to conceal in a coat to help remain inconspicuous. Compare that to our most egregious offenders: Connor and Edward who were laden with swords, pistols, a bow, and all sorts of tools.
@jonathanjuliman5628

Edward is a Pirate. A captain to add that, and most pirate captain that time wear distinguisable outfits anyway so the Assassin robes indicate that. Pirate outfits are made to stand out. I think i read someone said that he thinks it's because we are playing their memories from a 3rd person perspective and the characters don't pay much attention to what they were wearing at the time so they recall it being something to help them blend in which is what assassins do so when the memory is viewed they see assassin robes despite it being clothing that fits the assassin rather than clothing that fots being the assassin which i find a nice theory
@yiklongtay6029
@yiklongtay6029 10 ай бұрын
This tracks. I believe this is how the game canonically explains the ridiculous physics-breaking parkour. The Animus is just a simulation constructed from existing memories. So IRL Ezio needs to survive a single BS leap of faith that should honestly have a 10% chance of survival. Then the Animus extrapolates and use it whenever Desmond wants to jump 500 feet into a 1 foot high hay stack.

@@redditfunnyhurhur6023 Seriously. It's a regular old longcoat and top hat- perfect for blending in. Hell, the modern day Assassin outfit is literally just a hoodie, and I don't think I've ever seen anyone complain about that. People sleep on it a lot, but between Jacob wearing regular clothes and Arno and Aveliene using disguises, those three would actually blend into a crowd. Also, Ezio's early outfit wasn't stealthy at all, that shit stood out like a lightbulb in a dark room.
@enzoamore8971
@enzoamore8971 Жыл бұрын
It was a nice idea, but implemented terribly. It should've been just a toggle. The hood should be better for hiding alone in the dark, while the hat is better at hiding in plain sight and crowds.

Its supposed to be shroud of anonymity more than a symbolic gesture to the old days. If you're being chased by a single assassin wearing robes, you don't know who that person is, only that you're being chased by the brotherhood. It protects individual assassins by making them all appear to be the same.
@AvatarNaty
@AvatarNaty 11 ай бұрын
It's a really simple yet very good explanation. Something that once had a practical purpose is now tightly ingrained in the identity of the Assassins that they choose to continue wearing despite its original purpose no longer functioning. Though, to be fair, it's not like they don't have a practical function: the robes of the Assassins are *very* intimidating, and they *do* hide your identity, both very important elements.

Yeah, according to the in-game Lore, it's also his own personal design. That's why his jacket is so floaty and light - because he designed it specifically to allow for faster and smoother parkour and combat. It being blue was more for blending purposes, because that's just one of the standard colors people wore back then.

To be fair, the outfit that Ezio has in AC2 used to belong to his father, back when he was young and an active assassin. From what we know, back then the Brotherhood had more power and was able to just act in public. So the Outfit was literally made to show that one is a member of the Brotherhood.

I think so too. You wouldn't really catch it on first glimpse if you are Templar going through a heavily crowded courtyard. Assassins wouldn't be the only ones wearing hoods either, regardless of time period (we still commonly use hoods even in our real life present day) and the hood serves well to hide someone's face (The human brain is adept at picking out someone's face with single glance. If their face is hidden with a hood, they might not even register there was a person there if they are once again scanning a courtyard if people that they have to move through to get somewhere else)

Well the Assassins weren't really about freedom until AC3. AC1 Assassins were about Peace. Actually the whole shift from Peace to Freedom is big part of why the AC Universe has gone to shit. Assassins were supposed to be almost like Jedi from Star Wars, while the Templars were the Sith. Assassin's used violence to achieve peace by killing Templars who destabilized the region in their effort to control the world. Templars wanted peace through subjugation, Assassin's wanted peace through wisdom. But now Assassins Creed is solely about wayward narcissistic shitheads earning their redemption. Yeah, technically that's what AC1 was as well, but it had plotlines going on BESIDES that that gave the universe depth and history, and made your narcissistic shithead main character look like such a douchebag for being so selfish. Now the story is about the character, not the greater moral implications of the Creed.

I read a theory from someone that the animus actually shows the memories of the ancestor how *they* remember it, not how it actually happened. An assassin would wear stuff to blend in the majority of the time, but would be unlikely to remember exactly what it was they were wearing. What was burned into their mind was that they were assassins doing assassin things, so even though they might have only worn the robes under special circumstances, the animus fills in the blanks with the symbol of the robes because it's so associated in the subject's memory. Hope that made sense, I find it a really cool theory, even if it's only that.

Different wording Really sneaky assassin's: Has an easily recognisable uniform

I mean, it also still somewhat helps hide their face and disguise their individual identity, if not their identity as an assassin…but the assassin brother’s existence isn’t common knowledge in the world anyway, so it still helps them blend in the general public.

Yes! Honestly I was exactly thinking that. Really Altair used that hood for blending in with Scolars and or Priests, which gave the Assassins at the time more access and visual cause for being around crowds. Really, for anyone past, I would say Altair and Ezio, dawns the traditional esk hood out of respect and tribute. While earlier Assassins like Bayek wore it to protection and to be anonymous, later on adopting the idea to the first iteration of the assassin brotherhood with the help of Aya.

Honestly i was thinking their design was mostly to resemble Travelers? Like take Basim design from AC Mirage (note I'm talking about his casual outfit not a ultra rare cosmetic you can buy in the ubisoft shop) it looks like a casual Wanderer traveling the lands.

Also you gotta think how scary it is for a Templar to scan a crowd of people and then just barely be able to see that signature beaked hood and just absolutely shit themselves! It can also be use for intimidation to get the enemy to make mistakes

I felt that AC Syndicate did a pretty good job implementing the hood in a modern setting, being able to put on and off

Edward isn't an assassin but he only wears hoods when he enters restricted area. Jacob and Evie only wear while sneaking. Aveline doesn't even wear a hood, she just looks like a soldier even in Assassin outfit

It stands out to us cause we’re the player, but when I wore hoods at school, my friends would lose track of me very quickly, like two-three people deep in crowds, this was in Texas, where most people wore short sleeves, and button downs

To be fair, Ezio was the time of the renaissance, when this sort of fashion tryout was common. It makes sense the Ezio would blend in. Kenway wore the robes as a trophy, so he never intended to blend in.

It was hilarious that in the computer files in Abstergo (in AC4 or Rogue I can't remember which) the company has only one dress code rule: hoodies/hoods are absolutely forbidden on the premises and any employee seeing someone wearing one is to report them. That's so insanely paranoid, like Captain Hook hating the sound of clocks because it reminds him of the crocodile 😂 so hoodies reminds the Templars of the Assassins. John Standish from IT was collaborating with the Brotherhood and he wore a hoodie at Abstergo, the joke being like the player no one ever laid eyes on him.

Plus, as your environment changes it wouldn’t really make sense to stick with all white robes. Granted some just stand out no matter what, but most of their outfits are based on when and where they’re from.
