Yes, I converted on May 20 last year after being Protestant for over 47 years. I have made my fourth confession on Palm Sunday. What a gift it is! Sin separates you from God, I was wandering the desert many years in sin. The Church, Eucharist, and Reconciliation brought me to the Catholic Church Jesus established. It took years of reading the bible, apologist books, Church fathers, YTube, and prayer. Dr. James Prothro👍👍 Thank You, Cordial Catholic

I remember during our process of coming into the church, my wife and I got to the point of laughing every time a Catholic doctrine would be explained. It would always start in Genesis. Love how the sacraments stretch across the Bible from cover to cover!

I just learned so much more about our beautiful Sacrament of Reconciliation than I've ever known before! When I listen and read from our wonderful teachers of the faith, I realize how deeply our faith is rooted in God, the Bible and the early history of the Church hidden in the Old Testament. There was a newly ordained bishop in 1950. He was told he had a rouge priest in a village 20miles away he was now responsible for. The Priest would go to the saloon every Friday nite and drink too much and talk bad about the pope too much. So Friday nite came along and he told his secretary to drive him to the saloon. He sent the secretary in and told him to bring him the priest. So he did. They got in the car and drove to the priests home. The bishop had the driver wait and the bishop went into the house to have a talk with the rouge priest. He found a chair and asked the priest to have a seat. The priest thought he was in deep trouble. Instead the bishop kneeled down and said he would like to make his confession. When he was done the priest gave him Absolution. The bishop stood up and said “never forget who you are.” And he left. The bishops name was Angelo Roncalli

The very first Christians, who were taught by the apostles themselves, believed that this authority was passed down. Read Igantius of Antioch, for example, writing in the early 100’s.

One issue I find with discussing the Catholic faith with non-catholics, is that people from certain Christian traditions tend to want a quick one-line answer. They offer quick one-line answers to justify their position, but I don't see that as easy for the Catholic to do. I tend to think in analogies, and to me it is like somebody drawing a stick figure in 3 seconds flat and claiming it is their portrait. Well, it certainly has the basic outline of a human being, but It is not accurate or detailed in any way. The Catholic position is more akin to an artist's rendering, rather than a child's stick figure

This is a great explanation and teaching on confession. I have a question. Why do pastors from Calvary Chapel churches in California teach their attendants to look at Catholics in a hateful way? They teach that the CC is the church of Satan, and that Satan is doing work through the CC. If there is deeper BIBLICAL learning, why don't those pastors learn this and know this? Aren't they keeping people from learning the fullness of the faith? And let's say that they do not want to learn these deeper teachings, why are they so resistant? Are they afraid, or are they like the people of Korah...resisting? I have felt the hate and fear as they have tried to evangelize me. I hear all their errors and feel sad for them and that they are taught false things.

"Whoever sins you forgive... Whoever sins you retain." The Church has the authority to anathema unrepentant people. We are encouraged to confess our sins to one another. A person who has committed a mortal sin has severed himself from the Church. He confesses his sins willfully to a representative of the Church (of Christ). The representative blesses (pray for) the confessing sinner.

I think the key here is to profess the love and mercy that God has asked. Confession in the church is to reconcile yourself with your neighbor through the church with a representative of Christ (the priest). Paul clearly said in his epistles that they were ambassadors for Christ and that they would in his name forgive your sins through the ministry of reconciliation. This satisfies the request Jesus made in multiple parables and words to the apostles to reconcile with each other … and if you are not able to truly forgive or to let go to take it to the church … otherwise you would face judgement for sin debt commensurate with the way you judged others for their transgressions against you. You could leave it to Jesus and his judgement. But Jesus has said you can have his ambassadors (priests) forgive you those sins m, assign a penance and you have fully reconciled those sins on earth and that Jesus will not pass judgment for those sins.

You have been taught wrongly. Catholics and Orthodox have an INFINITELY more personal relationship with Christ than all Protestants together. Only God can forgive sin unless you pagan and going to hell Confessing you sins to a sinner does no good for only God can heat your sins and he knows if it comes from the heart Jesus is our high priest. The concept of confession of sin to a priest is nowhere taught in Scripture. First, the New Testament does not teach that there are to be priests in the New Covenant. Instead, the New Testament teaches that all believers are priests.! Ephesians 2:14-22 KJV For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; 15. Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; 16. The Bible says to confess our sins to one another and then Jesus gives the apostles the authority to forgive sin. The apostles where sinners but Jesus still told them that whatever sins they forgive shall be forgiven, whatever sins you retain shall be retained. Obviously its still Christ forgiving the sin but he uses his priesthood(successors of the apostles) as instruments to do so. So it is Biblical. Christianity is not something new that came up 2000 years ago, it's the continuation and fullness of Judiasm with Jesus Christ at the center. So there are still a lot of things that carry over . Christianity is rooted in second temple Judiasm thats where its initial phase was and where the very first Christians went to until the temple was destroyed in 70 AD.
