Surprised hairballs weren’t mentioned as a cause. Definitely my cat’s main problem, every mess on the floor has a hairball in it. I brush her more now and add water to her wet food to turn it into a sort of soup, which has really helped her. ❤️

My cat regularly brings up furballs especially during the warmer summer months even tho I brush her regularly. She has just turned 14 and has always been fed dry food in the morning which she tends to snack on until lunchtime and wet food at night. I also give her the occasional treat (especially after clipping her nails lol)

hairballs, it is not vomiting, it is regurgitation.

@@RomanoPRODUCTION Go slow with me here, I'm not an expert in cat anatomy, even though she addressed regurgitation vs vomiting, and this video was about vomiting, is regurgitation not from the stomach/intestines but esophagus/mouth? I've seen some pretty wet chunk blows from cats that was obviously a pretty large hairball, along with some violent spasms for them to eject it. My recent new batch of itty bitty kitty committee has one that definitely appears from not liking a certain brand of kibble. She doesnt seem to hurl when we switch to a different brand.

My 12 year old cat just passed away yesterday. He was vomiting for almost a week (probably once or twice every day or 2, but got worse over the weekend). I thought it was because he ate too fast or because he ate something he shouldn’t. I took him to the vet office and they thought it was because of parasites or an infection. I wasn’t happy with that and went to another vet for a second opinion. They thought it was an intestinal obstruction, but after some tests it turned out to be eosinophilic enteritis, the intestines were so swollen that nothing passed through. The vets took a piece of his intestines but my cat didn’t recover after the surgery, as the tissue was too fragile because of the inflammation 💔 please, take care of your cats and don’t ever think it is normal for them to vomit, better take them to the vet for a check

One of my cats was vomiting several times a day for a long time. During that time I took him in for several tests at the vet but no one could pinpoint the problem. They thought it was just caused by his hyperthyroidism although he was getting his meds twice a day. One vet finally looked at all of the tests and came to the conclusion that the only thing it could be was intestinal lymphoma...cancer of the intestines. My poor Kitty was throwing up black vomit because of blood in his vomit. He was getting thinner and thinner and thinner. I'm so grateful to that vet for putting all the puzzle pieces together and figuring out what was wrong. I had a service come in who could euthanize him here at home while I was holding him. He was a dear sweet kitty cat and I miss him.

I have a 17 year old cat. He is so sick. Lost weight. It's a internal thing kidneys I'm sure. He's lost some teeth. Mr Ritter, is his name. Such a informer he's been. Inside cat. All 5 are fixed tagged shots. Through PAAC. How much does euthanize in a home setting cost. And what is it called. Mr Ritter would like that, becuz he would be with his 4 other furry friends. He's close to his time.

@@lauriehudson9493 it was about 4 years ago when I got my Oscar euthanized at home. The vet who came to my home was from a company called Caring Pathways. The euthanasia was about $500 but that also included his cremation, and his ashes to be returned to me. If you look up "home veterinary euthanasia services" or call some of your local vets I'm sure you'll be able to find a service that will come out at the appointed time that you give them and walk through the process with you and put Mr Ritter to sleep. My heart goes out to you. I know how hard it is to part with such a dear friend. Let me know how you do with that okay?

Eating kibble and drinking water straight after can cause vomiting/regurgitation. The reason is that due to the water the ingested kibble expands and overfills the stomach. Changing to wet food can resolve this common problem.

The news is saying now that cats should never eat kibble. It will shorten their lives for what they have in it. So if you love your cats quit feeding them kibble or dry food especially from the big pet food industries. In case some of you don't know this, their sinister plan to cull humans from the planet also includes our pets who they say are only living half the years they have in the past. Going from somewhere around 17 yrs to about 9 now!?

My cat started vomiting continuously one morning. Was crying like he was in pain. Over the previous months he had been vomiting a couple times a week. Once the acute vomiting started I took him right into the vet. They gave him fluids antibiotics, and antiemetic and send us home. He vomited a few more times at home and then continued to cry and drool ALOT. Took him back the next morning for more fluids. He wouldn’t eat or drink for 3 days. Finally the vet decided keeping him and running some test was in order. After an ultrasound, the vet called me and said they found a huge mass in the abdomen and he would need surgery right away. Turned out he had a huge abscess caused by acute pancreatitis. They kept him as long as they could there for IV fluids and antibiotics...about 3 days. After that he was feeling a bit better and would not let the staff near him. I took him home and stayed up with him 24/7, trying to get him to eat or drink. It took several days but finally he would take little bites of food. Once he was eating a but, several days later , he slowly started to drink water. It’s been several months now and he is his normal self. I can’t imagine...if I had waited...he wouldn’t have made it. So, it’s always good to taken them in just to be sure.

hi, my cat has the same symptoms are your cats, but they weren't that severe. He started to stop eating for 3 days, so i brought him to the vet. They did over all exam, Blood draw, X-ray, but they couldn't find anything. I brought him home, he didn't want to eat until the 3rd day of applied ointment on his ears; they were prescribed by the Vet. Today 08/28 , he vomited 2 times. His stools were soft, not liquid. The Vet recommended me to bring him to the ER. I'm still thinking.....

Even though you don't intend your videos to substitute for a live vet visit/care, your videos are like a no-cost consult and provide valuable guidance for cat owners. A great example is explaining the difference between regurgitation and vomiting. You provide a starting point, with information to be considered so one doesn't have to go into a vet visit completely unprepared. I appreciate your taking the time to share your knowledge and experience this way!

Excellent video! Thanks especially for explaining the distinction between regurgitation and vomiting. My 14-year-old cat does both. She sometimes regurgitates her food. She has some issues with chronic vomiting which my vet and I have been working on for over a year with some success. Her labs have been good. She's due for them again next month. She does better on rabbit and sardine proteins, which aren't available where I live so I have to order online. I do have anti-nausea medicine when the chronic vomiting kicks up, and something to encourage her to eat when she is refusing food. We're still trying to fine-tune all of this, but we're making progress. She's healthier than she was a year ago. Thank you for this video. I just found your channel and will be checking in.

Try switching their regular tap water to bottled water "distilled" or "purified". My cats stopped the oh so very often vomiting after switching their water. Now the female vomits only when she anxious and eat more than her stomach would hold. The male passed last week he was 15.5 yrs old. After the switch he only vomited only if I took too long to give him his fresh serving of dry food. The female will eat the food after it has been in the bowl for hours. But the male was very demanding.

Feed your cat a high quality food. My little tortie female kitty was hanging around outside my house for a week or two, getting cat prints all over my car in the carport. Neighbors thought she was a stray/somebody dumped her as well. One day I have a dead mouse on my doormat lol. Couple days later she started crying at my door. Went out there, petted her, picked her up, then opened the front door and she bolted straight inside. Fed her a whole can of tuna, she literally sat on me for the next 48 hours, well now I have a cat lol. At first bought some cheap Meow Mix at the grocery, didn't know if I was going to keep her. Noticed she was a bit gassy, laying on my chest/neck in the bed I could hear her little guts grumbling. Fed her that till I ran out and decided to keep her. Bought some good quality dry food from the local pet store. Instantly noticed she wasn't gassy, never heard her gut grumbling again, turds were smaller. Just crazy how much of a difference I could tell by switching her to high quality food. And high quality dry kibble isn't that expensive, $15 for a 10lb bag that lasts a good 3 weeks or so.

We tried every blood test, x-ray, abdominal scan, anti nausea, appetite stimulant, special prescription diet but my poor kitty still kept vomiting and loosing weight. He’s always been a picky eater, lots of choking, difficulty swallowing. He has a heart arrhythmia and had lots of gum inflammation and tarter on his tiny baby kitten teeth, is also missing, never developed his large back molars, which makes chewing a challenge. All seemed to me that he had some kind of esophagus inflammation. I kept watch closely, we tried so many things. I have GERD, it looked to me like his symptoms were so similar, choking on food, frothy bubbly spit up if he didn’t eat, then finally just refusing to eat and loosing weight. I researched and sure enough some kitties have acid reflux! Sent several articles to our vet, she agreed to try him on compounded Pepcid/famotidine. It was compounded at a local speciality pharmacy in liquid form with tuna flavoring, 1mg every 24th hours. I use a syringe to squirt just 1/2 a dose(.05ml) into his mouth before his 1st meal in the morning and the other half 12 hours later, right before last meal of the day. At first I fed him whenever he was hungry, four or five times a day, moist canned and also dry kibble, low fat meals. After only 5 days on Pepcid he’s eating like a champ, running, playing and happily rubbing around my legs and wanting to cuddle. No more throwing up, he’s gaining weight, no more anti nausea or appetite stimulant needed. Here’s some research regarding the use of acid reducers in cats, hope this helps your kitty 😽: petstruggles.com/pepcid-for-cats/ catcentric.org/care-and-health/the-problems-with-pepcid-and-other-antacids/

Thank you for explaining this so clearly! A few months ago, my cat was having issues regurgitating over the course of a week. She'd regurgitate infrequently before this (sometimes she eats too fast) but never so close together. Took her to the vet and a blood test showed dehydration and a slight issue with the pancreas. We couldn't determine if this caused her symptoms, or if it's a byproduct of her regurgitating. But we treated the symptoms and thankfully she did get better!

Hi. I was wondering about hairball vomiting. In what category does that fit in? Is that also considered abnormal? And other than brushing our cat and giving hairball stuff (like Laxatone) is there anything else we should do? Thanks.

I apologise, I do not know how to sugar coat my delivery... 1:27 scam to say it is never ever normal... hairballs are not to be processed in a cat... Foods that can rejected are because of the stomach acid is not able to resolve the chemistry of these artificial manufactured goods / wheat mostly to be ejected (just like grass)... Vomiting is related to stomach contents and most cats do not just vomit on an empty stomach / hence it is food related... STOP feeding your cat these ''choline chloride'' products! NOTE, the blood plasm levels will be totally different than the commercial trash products u feed your lovely pets. NOT one Purina test shows natural, human grade meat is deadly, not one (NEVER give cat onion, or vegetables)... Nutrition is key! Fat cats eat these manufactured and CHICKEN is NOT an allergen but large chucks can cause a digestive issue, so make the food smaller and less stress on the stomach acid process... Stress is such a scam that vets love to blame, I have NEVER EVEN had a cat vomit during stress event... a dog chases a cat and you see it vomiting - NO NO NO never seen it ever! ALL THOSE DAMN TEST YET SHE LEAVES OUT ARTIFICIAL PRODUCTS (CAN FOOD AND DRY FOODS). NO RICE NO RICE BUT BOILING WILL REMOVE SOME PHOSPHORUS FROM THE CHICKEN UTI (INFECTIONS) ARE RELATED TO THE DRY FOODS AND EVEN THE CAN FOODS; I HAVE CURED MY CAT FROM A UTI BY ORGANIC, HUMAN GRADE CHICKEN, MEATS AND KEEP IN MIND, THE BLOOD PLASMA LEVELS WILL NOT NOT NOT BE THE SAME AS NUGGET DIET OR A WET FOOR DIET FROM MANUFACTURED GOODS. Your vet needs to understand the blood plasma levels will appear higher in a protein diet and should be no attempt to regulate those levels down to a typical dry cat food blood plasma levels. Note, your cat WILL lose weight and it may scare you, but the cat will bottom out and have tons of energy and not pass blood, and will not be hooked on the crack / dry foods (choline chloride) ... note, I am extreme engineer and research person and my methods are always proven and his current blood work matches that of studies and healthy, meat eating cats. Please, get your cat's blood work checked after three weeks to confirm all is safe but never go back to dry food again (especially for boy cats)... I also have a background in nutrition...

@@daylight8208 , I have saved my ''Bruce'' from a vet that claimed he was stressed, would require her special food diet, would require visits for the rest of his life! My Bruce, is NOT stressed and all it required was me to do some deep dive into crystals and what they are made of and from... It turns out, I simply removed the WHEAT, manufactured goods and switched him to raw and some boiled chicken! I have had his blood work / plasma levels checked and it matches that of acceptable for a raw and protein diet... per studies I found... Bruce, has ZERO crystals or issues with his bladder / UTI etc and and lost about pound and then gained it back in muscle! (he is a tank)... I have four cats, all were strays and all are very happy, as all have ''escaped'' from the house and ALL have returned on their own! (so much for being stressed)... Don not believe the lie of a stressed cat causing UTI that is just bull shit! Please, get your cat off of WHEAT and I have videos coming out on the product they put into cat food to make it addictive (it happens to be the same product they put in human food)! Daylight, I was almost a certified nutritionist (another story about the food pyramid that the instructor demand a do a supporting paper on = not possible) ...

This was super helpful and enlightening. I was not aware of the difference between vomiting vs. regurgitation. I would love to have a video on megaesophagus / regurgitation. Yes! I have a cat that I inherited from a friend after she had to rehome him, and he used to regurgitate food a lot. I thought it was vomiting but he never seemed very concerned or affected afterward and his vet visits never flagged anything; I just chalked it up to him licking weird things like the bath drain. My friend also confirmed that he has done this all his life. I switched him to some fancy subscription cat food (real cooked chicken) which he eats along with high protein dry cat food (he's a grazer and the real chicken food can't be left out all day) and it has helped a lot with this issue. Every so often it still happens, but not nearly with the same frequency. He's also mostly stopped licking weird things.

Okay, this is a very useful video. Almost every cat I've had has regurgitated its food. I was classing that as vomiting, which I now see it was not. Near my house there's a new cat on the block, whom I thought was a stray, until I realised he belonged to a neighbour. Cat scarfed down a whole pouch of food in seconds with absoutely no indication he was going to regurgitate his grub. Eye opener as my female cats alternated between being picky eaters, or starvers with inevitable results.

My cat vomited about once or twice a month for some time. Then we got a new kitten who chased her and her vomiting became daily. She also started losing weight. I thought it was stress. We gave her anti nausea meds and an appetite stimulant. But it continued. Then the vet did a scan and found she had a growth on her liver. The vet recommended exploratory surgery, with the goal of maybe removing the mass. When she opened her up, it was everywhere and it was almost certainly cancer. So she was put to sleep before she ever woke up. Never take vomiting lightly. Get a thorough workup on your precious baby.

Maybe this falls under the regurd catagory. (happened twice in 3 months.). This cat is less than 18 months old.

I find it interesting that there was no mention of hairballs. My cat was a chronic vomiter and all that ever came up was hair and bile. He did have a bit of a sensitive stomach but once I found the right food, I thought the puking would stop. Nope. It did get better but it never really stopped. He had short hair and I brushed him every day (part of our nighttime routine). He still vomited several times a week. He never lost weight. He was not bloated or painful. He had a good appetite, but he wasn't a pig (he was a free feeder and didn't wolf down his food). His skin was fine, his coat was luxurious and shiny. He just threw up hair. Frequently. The vet suggested hairball medicine which my cat did not like and would not take (it was a really sticky goo that I think he had trouble swallowing). I read the packaging and it was white petrolatum (aka vaseline) with flavors added. I started giving him plain petrolatum. He would lick it off my fingers and would try to stick his nose in the jar if I was using it for myself. I gave it to him about once a week. It helped, but he still threw up hair at least once a week. Unfortunately, this seemed to be normal for him. He was otherwise healthy so the vet finally gave up trying to figure out why this was happening. My cat was 18 when he crossed the rainbow bridge.

Willow would upchuck on a regular basis when I was still married. Oddly (or maybe not) she managed to do it on HIS side of the bed or in the hall where his step length would always manage to find it in the early morning... Nothing else "wrong" except that cheating man... After he was no longer in our lives she stopped. Figured it was something personal, not biological. I suppose you'd consider it stress - it seemed deliberate. The food was always partially digested and NEVER on the rugs. She lived 17 years, was an indoor cat (mostly - she had a deck that opened onto the roof and the guy who scraped the moss from the roof said she left turds on the moss). After the divorce I upgraded her diet away from grain and starch based food to all meat, but it took me a year or so. The vomiting stopped when he was gone, before I actually shifted their diet. Her long haired companion (Peddington) would chuck a hairball occasionally, but both were healthy.
