Understanding Cat Vomit Types, Causes, and Treatments | BEMYPET's Tips

Common Types of Cat Vomit
No 1. Disgorged Hairballs
Cats throw up hairballs once or twice a month. Most hairballs pass in the stool. But if they swallow lots of hair, it gets tangled in the stomach and they will end up vomiting. But frequent disgorged hairballs are bad for the esophagus and stomach. You can switch the food or brush her fur regularly.
No 2. Undigested Food
Cats throw up undigested food after overeating or eating too fast. This is actually regurgitation, not vomiting. Regurgitation is easily spitting out undigested food or foreign objects from the esophagus. On the other hand, vomiting is the forced expulsion of the contents of the stomach and upper intestine. In this case, you need to help your cat eat slowly and feed frequent small meals. Frequent regurgitation may be a sign of esophageal disease.
No 3. Yellow or Clear Vomit
Yellow or clear vomit may occur with an empty stomach. Your cat may expel gastric juice or bile. Then, feed her fewer meals more often in the same amount. In addition, consistent throwing up is unusual. It may lead to gastritis or esophagitis. Or she might have swallowed something bad or have gotten sick.
What Color Is Dangerous
No 1. Pink or Pale Red Vomiting
It means bleeding in the stomach, esophagus, or gums. Check if there are parasites or foreign bodies in vomit. Also, your cat may suffer from a hemostatic disorder that does not stop bleeding from the wounded stomach or esophageal mucosa.
No 2. Dark Red or Brown Vomiting
If your cat throws up brown vomit and something like coffee powder is in there, there might be bleeding in the small intestine. Intestinal obstruction due to a foreign body, inflammation, trauma, and tumor may be a cause.
Vomiting When Sick
If your cat throws up while sick, she may show other symptoms as well. Check her activity level, appetite loss, urine, and feces.
Recording The Symptoms
If you record the symptoms in detail and take pictures at home, it will be a great help to your vet’s diagnosis.

Just a word of caution - not to be scary but I had a kitty that vomited yellowish liquid. It turned out to be liver disease. I had no idea, but she was also lethargic and wouldn't eat. Just an FYI, something to be aware of for future reference. I'm surprised this wasn't mentioned. 😻

Go to a doctor and they will either tell you what to do or they will do it their selves. All the are doing is giving your cat something that will make em get the string out.If not removed the string could wrap around your cats intestins and then your cat won't be able to eat, go to the litter box. And not eating for a long period of time can cause death.

My female cat didn't eat well after a day she hunt and ate a rat. The next she started not eating even if she came to call me and walk me to her food bowl, after filling food in her bowl she smell and didn't eat. Further next day she kept sleeping and afternoon she went toilet on floor which is very unusual and also I found a pale clear colored vomit. She don't want to drink water either. Midnight she vomit again. Morning today, I called a vet he paid a visit and gave an injection saying it could be her lever. It will take some time and advised us to give her water, or any fluid like complan or milk or suger/honey water via syringe if she is not drinking. We tried syringe way but she spit everything and want to run away. So left her alone some time. Still I see her sitting very dull and weak and mouth with saliva as if she kept vomiting outside the house in yard. I'm very worried. Can you please advise me or enlighten me if this is normal or should I bring her to another vet or a vet hospital?
