Thank you so much for your message......my son adopted a Doberman puppy just 5 days ago and I am all nerves! I haven't slept well out of sheer fear of the giant intimidating pet that we are going to raise..... I am having nightmares of BITES....we have so many house helpers....and they often keep changing.... I am unable to sleep thinking how I shall be able to handle this..... I can't lift a finger as far as house work is concerned and we have a huge house.... I don't know if we will ever have any replacement helpers if the existing one leaves because of this huge scary pet with such powerful jaws and a set of teeth..... I don't know what the future holds for me.... I am so very petrified.....

@@anamikachaudhury6835 socialization is the key! Even though the vet may say no paws on the ground till they get the rabies shot, we carried our pup around in a tote bag, went everywhere with them. Would you mind petting my pup? Have your son take him to positive obedience classes and/or join the local dog club so you can get many classes with different instructors at a reduced cost once you're a member. Suzanne Clothier's Automatic Check In is a must. That's the first thing we teach in any of our classes. Start now with more and better treats when hands are by the food dish so they're thinking where's my treat, rather than I'm going to nail you. This is with any pup, but socialization before the 16 week mark is the most crucial. All kinds of people, animals, places, etc. Then for getting them used to kids - ear pinch, treat, toe pinch, treat, tail tug, treat - again so they're thinking where's my treat rather than I'm going to nail you. Check out Joel Beckman videos for training too - he's awesome - no nonsense, but all without prong collars or shock collars, plus he has a Doberman helper dog. My one Dobe is a therapy dog so we visit the students at the local college, also visit the airport. Scent work or nose work helps to build a dog's confidence, and a lot of Dobes make great trackers and have even seen them at barn hunts. @@anamikachaudhury6835 Dobermans are only a threat to those who endanger their pack. As in any large dog they are pack animals and protect what is theirs. I grew up with attack and recall Dobermans who were trained guard dogs. The only time I was bitten was when I was in an argument with my sister because I didnt want her to leave. Ep (the dogs name) was a German Dobe my mom had at the time got between my sister and I and was growling (warning me) and when I made a move he let me have it. My fault completely for acting like that. So fear not one bit about that dog in any way shape or form. Sleep with the dog and he / she will make you a member of his / her pack.

@@kenhammscousin4716 in the long run it's better for the dobermans health because the big floppy ears although they're cute can lead to earmites and could get infected if the owner doesn't have the time to sit down and do the treatments, while trimming the ears let's airflow through the ear canals which has a significantly less chance of infection

when I was getting prepared to own my very 1st Doberman (36 years ago), my girlfriend at the time said this exact same thing to me "their heads are too small for their brain and that will cause them to attack me". Needless to say, I did not keep the girlfriend around for very long, had my baby (Dob) for 11 years. Greatest dog, to this day she is still in my heart and I still miss her, had such great and memorable times with her!

When I was smaller this breed of dog saved my life! Her nAme was boe and she literally grew up with me. She was the most gentle dog you ever made never bothered anyone and always made friends with other animals and humans until one night being in a domestic violence situation out of my control when I was a child she stepped in and wouldn’t let them hurt me and it was not like her at all to ever show aggressiveness. Before something bad happened and there was chaos going on around me she would sit on my feet and I would hug her and cry I don’t know why did she was just my comforter and always look at me and wine and I thought she understood what I said. Then things started getting worse and she never showed any signs of growling or anything. Until that person got too drunk and was trying to take our lives. It’s like she knew and she attacked him and there was so much screaming from everyone in the room but when I said no she quit and immediately come over there and sat beside me and everyone stayed away for me the whole time until cops got there. She was my hero. Never in her lifetime she ever showed any violence or anything until that night. She literally had the cat run her off her food bowl every night or I had to sit out there and hold the cat while she ate. She died at age 12 with the old age. She was honestly a gift from God and God use his precious animal to protect us as children when it was out of our control.

Wow! that was an amazing story! Dobermans are sooooo loyal! I remember when I used to have sever migraines and was sick for 12 hours my Male Doberman would stay with me the whole time go to the toilet as I threw up then I would lie down and he would like down etc. They know when your sad, happy, in need of protection etc. The one you had was such a good dog that it even listened to you when he was attacking the person. That is huge!!! How loyal!!!

Most of my Dobies lived to be 14 years old. Just had to put my last one to sleep. He was 14 1/2. He had heart failure. Guess you can't expect all that much longer life span from a large dog.

My neighbors young 1.5 yr old doberman from pneumonia!! I miss him so much. I noticed I wasn't hearing his bark and hadn't see him. I was so afraid to ask about him because I was afraid he was gone. They brought him to a horrible vet well known by me to not diagnosis effectively. I don't understand this. The quack vet said he was fine. So they did nothing. Apparently he got worse and another vet gave him antibiotics. Too little too late. I am crushed as I always loved to see him and always praised him. Does anyone know why he would have developed pneumonia?

I am a retired 1st responder, have PTSD and have been researching FULL Psychiatric Service Dogs for PTSD (not simply "emotional support" dogs). I was very surprised to see this breed was near the top of the list for Psychiatric Service Dogs. Aside from being intelligent and trainable enough to learn necessary tasks (nudge owner out of bed when they are depressed, remind them to take meds and provide a type of pressure/massage on the owner to relieve anxiety), they are really tuned in.

I wish they would make a movie specifically about a Dobermans amazing physical and mental abilities to protect their families from evil. That would be a bad ass movie. @@DobermanPlanet I think it's also partly to do with how they're modified - the cropped ears make it look more fierce, but their natural ears are soft, floppy and make them look much more endearing. Plus, I think some owners deliberately abuse their dobermans to make them more aggressive, fierce and terrifying. Ear cropping was illegal in my home country, so the first time I saw a snarling doberman with cropped ears in an American movie (I was still a child at the time) I was absolutely horrified by it, especially with my own loyal girl right next to me, with her velvety soft oval ears.

my experience with dogs owners, in general, is how they make excuses for any aggressive behavior in their pets. I have known personally of two owners whose non-specific breeds have bitten their child or grandchild, and nothing happened to the dogs. I also would question how them being so protective of their owners as not a problem, I was visiting my aunt, and her medium sized dog became very aggressive with me, she said it was protecting her, and I guess it was, but frankly who knows? Large aggressive dogs are just very problematic, and small children should be supervised when they are around in my view. No doubt a great dog, still a dog, and everyone needs to recognized that.

My 8.5 year old 105 lb Doberman is the love of my life. I'm alone now, divorced and he's been with me through it all. I'm 54 and disabled. We never spend a second apart. He goes on every ride with me in my truck. He truly has saved my life. I've had him since he was 8 weeks old. I tried to breed him, bought a female pup and he hates her. She would jump all over him , but he tried to kill her once. He's good with the cats, for some reason, but hated Artemis. I gave her to my X who let me have Kaiser during the divorce. He was 18 month then . I don't know what will happen to me when he passes. That's how much I love this Doberman. I suggest everyone get one. He has his own Xtra cushioned futon in the living room and of course sleeps in bed with me. Great guard dog and like you said, 100 lb lap dog, 105 in NY case. I love your videos man!

No; a working breed of dog developed to guard fenced areas and attack humans for soldiers (Germany and police) is not for regular owners. Get a dog breed that is easy to manage (Beagle, Lab, Golden Retriever, etc.) and stop fantasizing. A working breed is for experienced and dedicated owners who train the dog well... and nearly no one ever does any training at all in a class. Ask real dog pros and they tell you the same thing.... they get the dogs that owners cannot/will not train and manage.

I remember when I was a child (early 80's), I was in the emergency waiting room with my mom (can't remember why we were there). Anyways, a lady walked in holding her face - it was all bloody and she was crying. She sat next to us and my mom asked her about her injuries. She said her two Dobermans turned on her and attacked her face for no reason. She said she raised them from puppies and they're not aggressive towards anyone. She was shocked and emotional about the whole thing. From that day on, my mother had harsh opinions of Dobies... I was also convinced they were a dangerous breed! Flash fwd to present day.. Now, I own a doberman. Raised her from 8 weeks old - shes 7 years old now. My mother was not thrilled at my choice, but there really is no other breed that compares. My female doberman is my best friend. The most protective, intelligent, and loyal dog I've ever owned.

I have had Dobermans since 1978. Enjoyed the video. I'm truly hoping that all comments on here about wanting a doberman will go to the Rescues. There are so many dobermans in rescues all across the US. I have rescued 6 since 78 and all were loyal and great family pets. Please rescue you want regret saving one of these amazing dogs.

Great point , ALL of my Dobes in the last 20+years have been rescued or rehomed,yes I've had one or two that were a wee bit more work than the rest but nothing that outweighs giving them a forever home when some had had 4 or 5 owners.

Here's the end of the story... My wife and I have recovered well with some permanent disability due to bite wounds from an attack on October 21, 2020. My wife spent 12 days in the hospital after being attacked by a three year old male European Doberman that we "took in" from a guy who had kept it in a pet kennel for most of it's life (because of his work schedule). We had this dog for approximately 39 days. As I was working in my detached garage that evening, the dog went berserk and mauled my wife... nearly to death. He bit her finger off and almost bit off many more. He inflicted around sixty bite wounds to her hands, abdomen, and arm. There were several miracles which occurred that night, or my wife would have died. I was able to enter the house in time to wrestle it off her, place it in a chokehold, and eventually shoot it with two handgun rounds after a ten minute wrestling match between me and the dog. I also sustained several bite wounds. It was brutal, yet God saved her life... and mine! We did not have health insurance at the time, yet our bills are finally paid in full! We also had our seven month old female Doberman at the time. We still have her. She is awesome and is now two years old. Harley, our female, is our fourth Dobie and is a JEWEL and a big lover! @@DosPerspectiva not necessarily true.. MOST of the "guard" or protection dogs I've owned were already at least 2-3 years old when they came to me & I never had any issues with any of them. Even a 130lb male Rottweiler who was raised by a moron who COMPLETELY de.Socialized the dog and had it "trained" to just attack anything that got close enough 🤦 instead, I actually saw relief in the dogs attitude when he realized I was going to teach him things, play, give him his exercise and he no longer had to live outside alone looking for things to bite.. That dog made me the most nervous too. I was almost positive it wasn't going to workout. But he ended up becoming a great dog & lived to 14.

Wow I'm sorry to hear.. but I love that you recognise its not the dogs fault. Majority of the time it's the fault of humans, neglect and or abuse, the other tiny percentage would be something like a tumour or illness and even rarer the dog is nasty. All breeds suffer bad names because of people's ignorance, neglect and or abuse! They say "Adopt don't shop" but I highly disagree .. 99.9% of dogs in rescues have a history of abuse and or neglect, this means they need experienced owners... not newbies! and even someone experienced could end up being harmed.. sadly a good percentage of dogs in rescues I'd say are too damaged 💔 and would be better off pts 😢

Far too many people walk right up to and bend over Cockers thinking, "Oh what a cute little fluffy doggy!"! To bend over a dog is a position of dominance and to a dog that doesn't know you it represents a threat! Even from owners this can be construed as an attack! For a very long time Cockers topped the list as the dog most likely to bite and in 99% of the cases it was because they were approached by someone who knew nothing about dominance/submission and just wanted to pet a pretty dog! Squatting and calling the dog to you is the best way to avoid a bite but most of us Humans don't have the courage or the sense to do it correctly. Usually out of our own fear! "COCKER RAGE", is nothing more than stupid people doing stupid things and getting stupid results!

We had a Doberman when I was a little pup. Will. The only “danger” he presented was to running children. If you ran in the yard you WERE getting tackled and licked till he was ready to let ya up again. Oh and to that random dude that tried to pick one of us up from the other side of the fence. Will went ballistic, literally, over the fence he had never jumped once before. Ol dude probably never ran so fast in his life, I’d say he was saved by the fact Will didn’t want to leave sight of his kids.

I live this video. my parents used to pass on the story of Dobe's turning. I didnt really believe them because my very sweet, gentle uncle had a Doberman who loved me. When we visited he would single me out and do the single most viscous thing he ever did to anyone- pin me against the wall or fence lick my face off. He did it gently but to 5 yr old me he easilly overpowered me and I would usually laugh. When I stopped laughing that's when the adults would stop him. His name was Jake. I still miss him 34 yrs later.👍😀

There's something about the breed something about the bond as I can describe it. As a baby growing up till 6 years old my parents had a Doberman. From 2007 to 2018 we had another Doberman... Saleen. I've had chihuahuas, I've had miniature pinschers, Pomeranians, Weimaraner, Rottweiler, but there's just something about the Doberman Pinscher. Their extreme loyalty & intelligence?. Again words can't describe it.

I grew up with the Doberman belonging to our neighbours. He was tall, strong, gentle, affectionate, funny and - above all - utterly loyal and very, very protective. When we were teenagers, one night the dad of that family suddenly died. At age 48. Their Doberman would have seen and sensed the awfulness, tension, alarm and horror going on around him. When the doctor arrived, the Doberman simply would not let him enter the house, barring his way, growling, hackles raised. He didn’t know that doctor, and wasn’t going to allow a complete stranger into his family’s house during a time of trouble.

My first male doberman developed the fluid bump on his head around 18 months old. This is when he started becoming human agressive and began to bite and attack people without reason, family members even. The vet said the pressure on the brain was probably causing the behavior. We had to put him down around 2yrs old as the attacks became more and more frequent. If you have never witnessed a 90lb dobermans attacking someone, it's the most horrifying and scary thing I have even seen and felt. I still have the scars on my arm to remember him by. Although very rare, it's a true condition....

My husband just brought home a European Doberman puppy. I’m not scared of him now but, I fear what he will become. I’ve been bitten by dogs several times and have a huge fear of dogs (especially black dogs...I know it’s silly). I’m binge watching your videos hoping to ease my anxiety. I'm on my 3rd Doberman in the past 23 years. Never had any issues with them attacking me, except for accessive ear licking, keeping an eye on me at all times, and excessive desire for belly rubs. It's a Doberman thing that every owner can relate to. Best Dog's I've ever owned, and hope to have by my side until the day I cross the Rainbow Bridge to be united with all of my past Doberman's.❤️

I have owned five Dobermans, and have never had one turn on me. They’ve all been loving wonderful companions. I absolutely love Dobermans for their personality and their beauty. The only reason one would turn on an owner is because the owner was being cruel, and even then I think it would take a lot for a Doberman to ever turn on its owner.

Hypothyroidism occurred in two of mine by the age of two (autoimmune). It actually made them slightly less energetic. Replacement hormone helped. All of mine were kleptomaniac(s). Ccd?? They only stole when I was home. I love your video. It shows a normal and loving family pet - laying around with or on the family when everyone is relaxing. I think videos like this R GREATLY NEEDED, especially from someone who's a doberman parent and someone who sounds, is , so knowledgeable and backs it with facts. I myself do not have a doberman, not from fear, I just honestly dont want to pay the cost 4 one. I know I could adopt/rescue but right now that's not an option. I have a Senior dog who is not dog friendly, she does great with puppies, so I dont want to adopt a dog and it not work out and then have to rehome. I'm all 4 adopting , and I probably will 1 day, but I want to be sure it's the best situation 4 my baby and a new pup I'm bringing in. I have brought home 2 pups with my current 1 and she did great , she babied the pup and accepted them right away. Kiwi is 11 and I wish she would live forever but I know I'm lucky if I get 15-16 years with her. This is just such a great video. I have had two Dobermanns, one from a pup and another rescued at 15 months (both living together). They were the best dogs I could ever hope for with a growing family and many children visiting. They love to be included in whatever activity is going on and were great 'buddies' to have around. I never experienced a viscous side although they are very protective and will stand between you (or other family member) and what they perceive to be a danger. Loyal to a fault every step of the way. Sadly, they don't live long enough. They tend to be the most misunderstood breed and this is such a shame. There are other lovely dog breeds out there but for me it's Dobermanns every time

My wife and I have raised 2 loving Dobermans - wonderful. Our 3rd was given to us because “Thor” was born blind in one eye. Lots of expense was no problem - he received a prosthesis, and he really became my wife’s dog. One morning I was petting Thor while I was having coffee, and my wife walked into the kitchen, and Thor bit my hand and forearm. We’ll never know why, but we still loved that dog - even though we had to put him down. Love the breed. Thanks for this segment.

How do dogs tell time? Growing up the Doberman we had would be sitting at the door when each one of us came home from school. In grammar school, school was dismissed the same time everyday. I thought the dog timming was triggered by mother unlocking the door about 20 minutes before we were due home. But I was home sick and 15 minutes before my brothers were due home, and without my mother moving towards the door, the Doberman came out sat in front of the door and just stared at the door. My mother said if I was in school, the Doberman would have went back to her spot and reappeared in front of door 15 minutes before I was due home. I was sick again the next day and I tried to pickup on what could have triggered her timing but I couldn't. No obvious sounds, not the sun level because she stayed under the couch until it was time. She just knew when each of us was due home.

When I was a kid we had a dog (half Great Dane, half St Bernard (HUGE dog)) that would come in and wake me for school in the morning, and at the appropriate time too. I never owned a Doberman just because of that myth. Instead, I raised kids and Bernese Mountain dogs. When I went to dog shows, I found out the truth about the Dobermans. I totally fell in love with them and realize the myth was just that. I got booped by a young Dobie and that was that! I hope to get a puppy next year, and so far, I’m pretty focused on the Doberman. They are a wonderful breed of dog, and I hate that such slander has been out about them. Terrific job!

I’ve had 4 Doberman in my lifetime. Over 20 puppies 3 litters. Never has a Doberman turned on me. My red Doberman needed an extra year or two to mature. We had a couple male dominance issues but they are the most caring dog you will ever want. You just need 3 years for them to mature. After that you have a soldier

Love your videos. This myth exists here too (Belgium/Europe). I always thought it was a local myth, because Dobermanns aren't really a big breed here (because of the bad reputation). We've already taken in a couple of rescues, some with a difficult past, but all of them are great pets, not even a little bit agressive.

My alltime favorite dog once lifted from the hallway passed through the "great room" and landed in my lap as I sat reading in a chair in the kitchen bay window. Found myself sitting on the floor in a pile of splinters, holding my dog. Pier 1 peacock chairs can be pretty and comfortable but not that sturdy. Decades later I still miss that dog. The 1st Dobie that shared my life was "Flake" ... I met him one night when my GF asked me to come over after my shift at the bar. As was customary, she didn't bother to make sure the door was unlocked and I had to go up on the backyard deck and hope the dining room window was unlocked. When I had one leg in. I heard growling ..... and standing there in the middle of the room was a giant doberman. I had experience training guard dogs in a caretaker's job thru high school and college and I was the only employee other than the owner who could handle the dogs when inside their kennel of chained on long leash. Being familiar with "pack behavior" I responded be sternly saying "Shut Up and lay down" which it did. Went into her room and found out that the dog had just run in the house when they were carrying in bags from shopping, and the dog ran in and they went into their rooms and closed the doors. I went out and met the dog, fed it some leftovers, gave a few commands ... the dog was obviously purebred and trained to "show" commands. Later was told that it was tied to a tree along the highway bordering a day camp. The cropping was show quality, beautiful red dobie ... the dog responded well to commands, .... this was a dog that someone had invested a lot of time and money in. The problem was, this dog weighed in at 128 pounds ... well above the male standard. The dog had no body fat and could have been used as a physiology lesson in a veternarian school. We canvassed local breeders, veternarians and the common comment was "the owner" found he could not be showed at that size and weight. I lived on a houseboat at the time and the dog took to waterfront life where we have a 2 acre space fenced in for him to roam, chase seagulls, bark at boars and even catch crabs". He loved visiting the neighbors each morning and jumping on new boats pulling into the dock ... their owners, not so much. He got his name after jumping on to a new arrival who had apparently pulled in the night before and were still partying .... the dog ran into the cabin sniffing all around and then sneezing at the cofee table where the occupants had lift a few lines of illegal substance ... spaying it all over. Since then the dog was called "Flake". We had several pure breads after that, the breeders became friends and retained the right to enter them in shows where they did very well. After that we met a woman involved in Domerman rescue group and took 7 or 8 of those. Last pairing was a red Dobie and Brown Lab, the latter of which had severe abuse issues. But getting to the topic at hand, having had Dobies with histories from pampered show dogs to abused rescues and feral street dogs, I have not found any "bad dogs". Even the most abused Dobie / mixed breeds were strong minded and recovered from the abuse. We live on a 3.5 acre property where the previous owner bred standard poodles for Westminster and there are several kennels left from that time. As I have trained other dogs for people get to compare with other breeds and Dobies are easy ... Huskies are the hardest I have experienced. One of the tings we have had success with is training dogs to lose their "prey instincts" with small animals. I think the problem with "dogs that turn" is owner culture.... when I was growing up, the German Shepherd was the "badass" dog... it had a high bite rate and I had two friends whose family members were attacked, one while driving. Later that reputation went to The Doberman, again movies had a part here, and all of a sudden it was Dobies with the growing bike rate .... Those folks that needed the hot car, a gun, a badass dog whatever to compensate for their own perceived weaknesses took advantage of the breed's natural instinctive traits and raised them to be "badass dogs". Later, Akitas and Rotties got the attention of these folks and later the Pit Bull. As that took place, the number of bad Dobies has plummeted. I have found the Doberman breed to be among the smartest and loving. Never seen a breed that overall is so good with toddlers and cats. Though our property is fenced, tree falls and frontage areas where zoning laws prohibit fences taller than 4 feet, they could easily escape but they don't roam .... they don't like to be away from family. We dog sit for friends and family and never had any dominance issues either way. Only issues we have is that we sometimes have as many as 35 deer on the property and the dogs, all breeds love to chase them. It appears to be play behavior but deer suffer from lactic acid build up and sometimes they will fall paralyzed to the ground. The chase being over, they just sit nearby and watch them or come and let us know. As we have only done rescues the last 20 years or so, our only problem is that rescue groups, even doberman.rescueme.org have so few dogs available. I was 20 when I met Flake and this is the 1st time in 45 years that we haven't had a Dobie living with us ... we just took in a Husky / Shephard Mix last November . We have eliminated her prey instincts with cats but she's still young and dumb playful that a whack with a paw can tests the cats patience. Limited success with "come" command and tendency to "go on walk about" if she finds an escape route or slips the leash remain a challenge ... a problem much more easily dealt with when we had a Dobie around.

I worked in Plastic and Reconstructive surgery for years and October was Dog Bite Awareness month in the Medical Surgical Journals. There, they'd have the stats for the past years dog bite attacks with a Top 4 Breeds responsible list. I always checked and would remember them. I can't recall Dobermans ever being on there. And, unfortunately at least 1/2 of significant dog bite attacks are from within a close family and friends circle, and often seemingly without provocation. With strangers, they often were being dangerously aggressive and/or inappropriately familiar with strange animals that they didn't know and should have approached cautiously and respectfully. FYI: The Top 2 Breeds consistently on that list, year after year were: German Shepard's and Jack Russel Terriers (tips of noses). The other 2 positions rotated different breeds. But not once were Pitt Bulls, on that list either, despite their bad rap!

You always have such helpful information about Dobes. As I mentioned before, of all the Dobes I have met, only one was dangerous and displayed unpredictable aggression against people. It was the one that lived with a family of mean, aggressive people. They kept him tied up outside, exposed to all kinds of bad weather and rarely spent any time with him. It’s no wonder the dog became like the owners.

My 12month old male turned days after getting fixed. He became aggressive and very hostile towards the family, which never occurred before. One evening I reached over to give me a peck on the head, he bit my eye. Prior to this, he bit my then 3 years old in the face. Again, he was never this way until he was fixed. The establishment wants people to get their dogs fixed, but fail to tell people many become aggressive afterwards. Look it up.

I’ve had people try to tell me the brain thing and even after I explained it to him, he told me I was wrong.... my Dobie has helped me through some dark times over the last decade. He’s a baby loving, daddy’s boy, Blue. He sleeps on a pillow above my head...it used to be my pillow, lol. Thanks for addressing this issue. The main reason I have hesitated in having a Doberman. I’ve had German Shepherds for 30 years. I just lost my Shepkita. I am older and keeping up with the fur is a challenge. I’m thinking a Doberman doesn’t have that kind of fur. Dobermans are smaller than my Shepherds, we always got the largest one. I’m going for a smaller, guard dog. I love that they follow you around, just like my Shepherd, mama’s boy! If I looked at all the negative, ailments a dog can have, I’d never have a dog. As a kid in the 80’s my good friend I grew up with had two dobies,a red one and a black one.Those dogs were great. The smaller red dobie was highly trained and attack trained also,and the larger younger black dobie was kinda goofy.They loved pulling my buddy on his skateboard and at the time I had a lab that pulled my along also. Love and learn with each video. Was bequeathed 4 year old female rescue Dobe one week ago from foster family, retecent to give her up. Gives master courses on cuddling. Deamed stable enough to air transport in cabin and acted as personal masseuse for four hours on two leg flight. Infinitely better behaved than high stressed children I flew with 10 years ago. My veterinarian that has cropped all my Dobie's ears, told me that in his career, the worst dog bite he has ever received was, believe it or not, was from a 15" beagle.

Docking tails and cropping ears is cruel and unnecessary and thankfully will be illegal in the not too distant future.

@@rijobaabojir2779 ... opinions are like assholes. Everybody has one, and some smell worse than others. I do like cropped ears and docked tails, just for conformation to the breed. If I wanted a dog that looks like a Black & Tan Coonhound... I would have, breed, and raise Black & Tan Coonhounds.

Hi John! I was reading off some forums, and I’ve heard that it is very hard to find a breeder that has not checked for health issues in the puppies. Is this true?

Most breeders in the U.S. anyway have checked for genetic health issues in the parents but usually not the puppies. But you can get a pretty good idea of what to expect in the puppy if you know the DNA health results of the parents. Really enjoying your videos. Have recently been considering getting another dog as my last one passed away a year ago. Congratulations! You got one of the best dog breeds. I have had them most of my life. They are all very different. Give them lots of time and attention. They are smart and sensitive. I would recommend not giving them a lot of correction in their training. They are smart enough to understand what to do. They need lots of physical and mental stimulation. Keep them confident and active and you will have a best friend for life. Lord bless

I just ran bumped into your channel as I was looking up Dobermans! Im so glad I did!! I always admired how regal and beautiful the Doberman is! My first Doberman I received as a gift to my 12 year old daughter in 2008. Wonderful female dog. I trained (of course I had to learn as they are stubborn). I highly socialized her and she was an amazing companion! Loved children & other dogs! I love all dogs however there was something different about Dobermans which was their loyalty and much more. We got another doberman when she was 2 1/2 years old (a male). Super fun, loyal, smart etc Wow! We lost our female when she was 9 years old from Cardiomyapathy. We just lost Maximus 1 week before Christmas. It has been very hard for us as now we have no dogs. He died of a seizure. He was super healthy and he was also 9! I wish they lived longer!!! One question I had was I was debating on getting another Doberman however Maximus was trained and highly socialized as well as our female Sadie but at 3 years old he did not like children. Now I have grandkids and I know if you get as a puppy it gets used to the children. My children were grown up when we got these 2 dogs. However the female loved the grandkids and max never did. I know this is long but if I get a puppy now and it gets used to my 3 grandkids and then lets say some grandkids come later and by then the dog is older Im afraid this will happen again as we always had to crate max or put in our bedroom or outside when grandkids came. That is what is keeping me from getting anothe one. Do you have any tips or suggestions?

Surrender it and get a non aggressive puppy or dog. Murphys law. It can only take one slip for everything to go wrong. I have some ex inlaws that the whole family warned that their Springer Spaniel was aggressively growling at their kids. Of course, they never thought it would happen. Their daughter is in her thirties now, several surgeries, and would have to shorten her deep 1/2 wide scar by two inches to look like the joker. Is that a risk you're really willing to take? It's a heat wrenching decision to make but I had to do it once myself. I just couldn't live with the guilt if he were to ever harm a child.

I've heard this myth before, but never believed that, but I watched this video out of curiosity... and ended up learning something about my lab mix! LOL I never really thought about why when sleeping alone my dog does it in random positions, but when he sleeps with me he always sleeps facing the door (and my feet). He's not a really brave dog, but it's so endearing to think that your dog is protective of you

Properly behaved Dobermans do turn on their by smothering their owners with kisses and hugs. That's the best part about them!

I had 4 Dobermans in my life so far. My first one was Rocky, he was a guard dog in his blood but he let my crawling baby all over him and never moved because he knew by instinct that he had to be gentle with her. We had to shake hands with guests for him to know that they were friends and then he just went for a nap. My second dog was Magnum, he was my shadow. He went everywhere with me. He helped me prepare for 7 marathons by being with me on all my runs, the longest distance was 27 km. My third Doberman was very sweet, she contracted Blastomicrosis and was very sick, she was at a point where she did not want to eat anymore. She looked like she gave up on life. Our vet could not find what she was sufferings from. A vet in Toronto had treated this fungus the lungs disease and she was on oxigen with not much chance of recovery. She did make it in the and and lived to the ripe old age of 13, just not as my running buddy she was very affectionate almost telling us every day thank you for saving me. Now I have a 3 year old 121 pound Doberman named Oscar. For the last year and a half he has been training to be my service dog, I believe that our final test is in May or July. We are working very hard. We are inseparable and we are able to have public access so he goes everywhere with me.

Another great video. Thank you! I had a female American Doberman that had Hypothyroidism she developed when she was 10 years. She was never mean. She took a pill a day till she passed at age 12.
