Whoa whoa whoa wait, back up. I want to talk about playing on a 200-yard pitch. I want exhibition games of this.
@F1Krazy3 жыл бұрын
You think that's mind-blowing? It was once theoretically possible to have a square pitch - the maximum legal width was the same as the minimum legal length. The rules have changed since then, and I don't think anyone actually did it, but yeah, square pitches were possible.
@NikozBG3 жыл бұрын
@@F1Krazy It's actually still possible, by the definitions in the rules of the game the pitch could still be 90 x 90 meters, but it will not be eligible for international football (which requires 75 x 100 meters at min length and max width).
@Snookbone3 жыл бұрын
@@NikozBG it's kind of possible and not at the same time, because, while the dimensions limits are as you say, the laws also specify that the sidelines must be on the longer lines. Whether that means you can disregard that law if you want to, I don't know.

Video idea: why is the half-time break 15 minutes? I've always just assumed it's because a 45 minute half plus 15 minute half-time makes a nice even hour. But what does modern sports science tell us is the optimum rest time? Would a longer/short break improve the standard of football or just lead to more muscle injuries?

I was wondering the other day about how the size of the goal was determined. It's kind of incredible how from a distance you more or less have to hit the ball perfectly for it to find the back of the net. So often if a player isn't fully composed to shoot it goes fractionally wide. If the goal we're ever so slightly larger many of those lesser quality shots would go in and the game wouldn't be nearly as competitive. Any smaller and you'd have too many stale-mates. Somehow they got it spot on.

I always internally thought that it's becaue 10 is a psychologically satisfying number. So: you had 10 players on each team who can play against each other and THEN people thought that it would be neat to have another one who can use hands; thus, eleven in total. But it's just my casual theory.

Since there has been so many positive changes. There is one change that I would like to recommend. No team (or fans or managers) are ever happy with the added time. The team leading generally is keen to delay proceedings with (faked) injuries and delayed throw-ins attracting a lot of heckling from the opposite fans/ managers et al. And every body (fans included) feel cheated/ shortchanged. International Hockey Federation has been able to address the issue. There is a timer 'clock' which starts and stops each time the ball is out of play. The clock dictates when the 'time is over' and thus there is no requirement of added time. This could also address the 'injured' time, throw-ins, goal keepers wasting time and all sorts of delaying tactics. Most importantly, the fans get to watch '90 minutes' of playing time football. Think of it. And just like hockey, if only football could adapt/ adopt this system we could have a much better game. What do you think?

I don't believe eleven players on a team is cast in bronze for all time. I have said for several years that the problem with all codes of football is that as players have become come bigger, stronger and faster there are now too many players on the field. The open flowing nature of Rugby Sevens illustrates this, although I recognise that playing periods are shorter in sevens. I believe all four codes (I am including Australian Rules in this) would benefit as a spectacle and as entertainment if the number of players was to be reduced. Consider how often a football side reduced to ten by a red card play well enough, perhaps not getting in each other's way, to beat a team of eleven. I believe spectators want to see a more open game with less emphasis on defence - and it is the spectators who ultimately fund professional sport. I would reduce Football, Rugby League and Rugby Union by two players, and Australian Rules by three.
