I'm a bevelled type (flamboyant natural) and definitely have issues with looking plain/undescript, if I don't make an effort. I'm 43 though and being middle aged doesn't exactly help, when it comes to standing out. The biggest factor is probably my hair, though. I never just tie my shoulder length hair back into a ponytail (other then for cleaning and such), because it immediately takes my appearance down a notch or two. Wheras styling it in tousled curls immediately makes me more attractive. And I also definitely 'glow up', when I wear jewelry or accessories, that compliment my outfit. It doesn't have to be matchy-matchy, contrast is good and so are pieces, that are on the bold side, but it needs to look intentional. I find, the only style that doesn't suit me at all, is romantic. Closely followed by gamine. I can do the whole classic to dramatic spectrum with some twists.

An awesome thing with FN is that we really dont need a lot to look super put together and nice. While another type might need fancy clothes, and very well put toghether hair and make up. We can go for that tousled flirty look with just a hint of accessories and make up and all of a sudden we are glowing~ Good luck with your journey!

Hi Merriam! I'm a sharpened soft and if I'm not wearing the big earrings or ornate jewelry and details, I look incredibly frumpy, not just plain. Even in my lounge outfits I'm wearing something like large hoop earrings in order to look put together.

I'm a soft dramatic and yes I know what you mean. But, I prefer to try to be minimalist as I'm not that much into wearing ornate jewelry. I must at least wear lipstick and have waist emphasis, the v neck, and a few others though.

I love the thought of beauty type, because at the end of the day that's basically what all this is about, looking your most beautiful. I personally am a romantic and it shows the instant I try and wear anything with structure or geometric shapes, but once I have on flowy fabric it's like my confidence soars and I'm not feeling awkward in my own skin, I also found that knowing my color season has made this infinitely easier too✨

Hi, Merriam! I'm a bevelled soft aka soft natural body type. I look really boring in purely tailored clothes, like one colour blazers and classic, button up shirts. It doesn't help that a lot of them are in colours that don't suit me, like black or white. What I would like to see is a video explaining how to wear classic/tailored clothes for the different body types. How does a bevelled soft type pull off a blazer, a button up shirt, etc? Thanks.

Hi Merriam! I'm always happy to see a new video from you. I was thinking, as a flamboyant natural I don't really have a problem looking plain - just as you said, but I often feel underdressed. That's because while standing in front of my mirror alone I choose clothes I feel good in, and standing there alone I'm quite content with my look. And then I meet my coworkers/ friends while going out and just feel like they are dressed for the occasion and I'm in my pyjamas...just my observation ;)

Hmmm, lately I’ve been feeling plain and I’m beveled firm. I guess it’s just in my head. I recently decided to dress more modest and finding out I look best in long lines was perfect! I used to watch Stacy London and use her advice about creating an outfit with color, texture and print. Maybe that’s why I feel plain. Now that I found out my type I put together my outfits by wearing a top and bottom in a similar color. I’m also warm and radiant but I usually wear neutrals. But one time I wore a bright Kelly green top and someone I see at the grocery store every week said they really liked that color. I didn’t like the attention so I told myself I’m never wearing that shirt again hahahaha

I haven’t really been able to identify my own kibby type yet, so I’m probably mixed. The other day my mother commented that she had noticed I never wear anything with prints and usually the same colour from top to bottom, and it’s because I feel like a pattern looks too loud on me and drowns me out. I’ve also had the talk with a friend because her wardrobe is full of fun prints and shapes, while mine is rather plain because I Can’t venture out of basic styles. I believe I have rather romantic facial features but my body needs a more structual look and especially around my shoulders as soft, flowy or lacy styles makes me look rather frumpy. It creates intresting dilemmas however, as a balzer or leather jacket looks good on my body but sort of looks overwhelming or misplaced/borrowed next to my face.

Hey Merriam I’m so happy that you are back!! Recently I found out that I am a soft, natural or beveled soft with classic essence. Since I am a natural, but I do have some classic essence it is super hard for me to choose and understand how I should dress because I feel like natural and classic are not similar. In fact, it is almost like the opposite? It would be great if you could do a video about it since I’m not comfortable with sharing my pictures online I didn’t submit pictures for your website, but I would love to hear your thoughts! :)

Hi. I just read your comment and I wanted to share a suggestion. Classic lines, so I understand, are the ones which are most versatile. That is because they can be worn by any body type - although on non-classic bodies, such lines tend to look a tad boring; for example, we often see Royal women (none of whom are Classic types) wearing Classic lines in the daytime, because Classic is often the easiest way to meet the dress code for any occasion. So I think you can definitely wear the Classic recommendations. However, you may need to tweak your appearance in small ways to avoid feeling bland when wearing Classic looks. I found a great example of a Kibbe-verified SN, Helen Mirren, wearing a Classic outfit in a SN way. Browse "Helen Mirren Oscars 2018" for plenty of images of this outfit. Her blue dress is definitely Classic, being so basic in shape. However, it is made in a softly draping (SN) fabric. It looks 1. comfy snuggly, not stiff and 2. it's not a tight fit, and 3. it works with her curves -- important features for a SN. Note the quirky, slightly longer cuff length (a Classic sleeve would have cuffs which end at bracelet length, exactly on the wrist) Other SN features Mirren has added are: > messy fringe for her short haircut (a Classic haircut would have a smooth-edged fringe and sides) > chunky necklace and big drop earrings (the size would be too big on a classic type, but for Mirren this sizing works with her non-classic facial features. However, the necklace is symmetrical, the earrings match the necklace, and design itself is traditional -- which are all Classic elements) Hope this example of "Classic, done the SN way" helps!

@@a24-45 hey! Thank you so so much for your recommendations and for your message. Your right classic lines are great for the daytime!! I tried to get some inspiration of Royal woman such as Kate Middleton, as I guess is a flamboyant natural with classic essence but since I’m a SN the lines are still quite different…. so I really appreciate your message and I will definitely try out your suggestions! I really really had a hard time finding a soft natural with classic essence or clothing. This is such a great help for me, thank you so so much. 💐💐

@@lunar6668 No worries, glad to try and help. I thin, if you look up a celeb SN who seems a bit similar to you, search their images online e.g. "name + "in jeans" + "daytime" "+street photos" and you should find more pics, as most celebs wear Classic style occasionally. I just found one: Scarlett Johansson Attends The Late Show With Stephen Colbert Sept 2015. The leather and the soft flowing pants are very Natural, ayet you know there's a Classic vibe going on when the outfit is so plain, yet seems to need barely any jewellery to look finished -- as in this case.

As a beveled type I worry more about looking sloppy than looking plain. Harsh, tailored or dainty, "feminine" styles just look "off" on me, so finding a "casual but not too casual" look for professional or formal settings can be a challenge. I feel fabulous in ripped jeans and a sweatshirt, but how to translate that effortless vibe into more elevated looks?

Can you explain how the Kibbe body types relate to mixed vs blended? I can't find resources online and it makes this confusing 😩
@sattvadevi

The mixed are the Gamines, and the blended are the Classics.
@comment3711
@comment3711 Жыл бұрын
I had the same confusion to begin with. I believe blended means having more harmony in the balance of your lines while mixed is a less harmonious mix in terms of yin and yang. Look at a pictures of the Venus De Milo statue and of Penelope Cruz in a bikini. The Venus has balanced proportions where nothing really stands out, it all blends together into a lovely woman’s figure - she is statuesque. Penelope Cruz is no less lovely (she’s drop d gorgeous!) but you can see she is more boxy, her shoulders are more square like and her frame slightly more boyish. She still has curves (yin) but her more blunt or boxy (yang) features stand out just a little more than her feminine curves. Edit: I missed the most an important detail… Venus De Milo is classic and Penelope Cruz is a gamine.

If you're familiar with Kibbe, Classics are described as a blend of yin and yang, a moderate type. I think it was Aly Art who described it as putting the yin and yang features into a blender and blending them up. The Gamines, or mixed type, were described as a mix and match of yin and yang. I think that's right? If I'm wrong, please correct me.

I absolutely agree with you about level of detail being the key, Merriam. However, what happened to your nomenclature? Didn't "Sharpened Soft" used to be your term for a Kibbe TR, while a SD was a "Softened Sharp" type? I'm surprised you have turned the dominant element into a modifier. I hope you'll consider switching it back for clarity, because I've always liked your take!
@superbettynow
@superbettynow Жыл бұрын
I think you're a bit muddled (not surprising, with all these names!) - Merriam's nomenclature hasn't changed, as far as I know. The first word indicates the type, and the second the qualifier. Sharpened is Dramatic, so Sharpened Soft is Soft Dramatic. I think a Theatrical Romantic would be Soft Sharpened.
@lisemichelin6997
@lisemichelin6997 Жыл бұрын
@@superbettynow Thanks for the explanation! Based on what you're saying, I think she'd be smart to change it now---because while she may be intending to downplay the qualifying trait by mentioning it second, she's inadvertently making it the dominant trait by turning it into the object.
