My guess is that it involves the muscles used during ejaculation and there's a slight stimulation of the prostate during the contraction phase at the end of urination.

Because the air in the shower is warm and rises, it creates a slight negative pressure and the curtain curves in to equalize that. So just don't close the curtain all the way and it should no longer curve in.

I had read about this for an AP Anatomy and Physiology course I took in high school. Basically, the shiver itself is just a reaction to the chemicals released by the brain for biological function rewards. SciShow has mentioned this before, but part of your brain and ANS (autonomous nervous system) function separately from the "conscious" you. It regulates, among other things, Dopamine and Oxytocin "rewards" it gives you for doing things that are helpful to the ANS. Elimination of toxins collected through urination so it can reset that "bladder collection meter" is one of those things. Furthermore, the reaction is stronger the longer you go without responding to it--for example if you're holding it in to finish a movie you're seeing (this is the example most people feel the shivers most strongly for). The ANS will increase the reward as an incentive to go eliminate those toxins and release the pressure your still-filling bladder is causing your abdominal organs in the process. Brad mentioned in the "holding it in" episode that the ANS WILL eventually take emergency control and release it for you--but it doesn't "want" to, hence the system of rewarding you that has evolved. On final note, the shivers are stronger in men SOMETIMES because the bladder and urinary urethra are actually touching the prostate--the longer you hold it in, the stronger the flow when you release and the higher the chance the stream has of stimulating the release "area" of your prostate, which ALSO triggers chemical rewards from the ANS, because anything that touches it is assumed to be part of the ejaculation/mating process. So it's the same reason in men and women, but if men hold it in and build up pressure in the bladder, they can "trick" the system into a double reward based solely on physiological placement of their prostate.

Anyone else here wake up early in the morning, start peeing, and find yourself getting nauseated, lightheaded, feel a deep pain and tingling coursing through your gut and it gets worse and worse until you feel like you're going to pass out? I finally looked it up a couple weeks back and found "micturition syncope" which is also caused by falling blood pressure.

So my friends and I have described the phenomenon "Pee Shivers" for years. It usually happens when you really need to pee, you're holding it, and a shiver races through your body. Hence the pee shiver. This has never happened AFTER I've peed. Shared this vid with them and none of them get pee shivers after they pee either. I know it's not well studied, but out of 7 I've asked only 1 said they get it only after and never before. But she was also the only girl, so maybe that's something

I feel Olivia is improving but she's still overdoing the pitch-raise during the beginning of sentences. It works for the occasional contrast but doing it on every other sentence gets distracting and tedious. Also, the literal hand waving is still a bit over the top. She seems more confident though (which is impressive considering the amount of hate she's still getting).
@TessaBain
@TessaBain 7 жыл бұрын
She's not getting hate, just criticism. The only people who call it hate are simply trying to dehumanize others they disagree with and they can fuck off from every conversation. Saying someone who doesn't outright like something hates it is also a fallacy because it's a false dichotomy. Even if it was true that you could only love or hate something rather than liking or disliking it to various degrees (which it's not) there would still be "I don't give a fuck at all." and "I don't know even what that is.". If you've never heard of AC/DC you not just don't but CAN'T love or hate their music even if those were the only other legit options, in other words. Also, it's nonsensical to even call them "haters" to begin with. You know how many times I've left comments on things I don't care about? Absolutely none. Not unless people were being emotional over nonsense and the point was to bring reason to the table and show why no one should. People who criticize, no matter how nice they're being, are trying to better the thing they're criticizing meaning they demonstrably don't hate it. Being more confident was one of the criticisms I've seen people put forth, so if anything it was a result of what you as a mental child has deemed "hate".
@woodfur00

Look, there's hate and there's hate. Yes, some people who criticize Olivia's presentation justify it constructively. But there are at least as many who just say "ew it's her" or "I just skip all of Olivia's videos, also I clicked on this one so I could make sure everyone knows it."

*I have a theory.* So if you try to empty any water container, such a water bottle, through a small opening, air bubbles will form from the displacement of water to air. Those air bubbles will rise from the opening until the top of the water as the air displaces the water inside the container. In the case of peeing, during the first moments of urinating, the first bubbles will float to the top of the container and stimulate the nerves or "tickle" the ceiling of the bladder. This stimulation is what I believe to be the shiver.

I get the pee shivers all the time. I also sometimes get something kinda similar if I stretch really big after like a long car ride, I don't exactly shiver, but my whole body kind of quivers and vibrates. They're probably related I'd expect, something to do with releasing tension. Edit: I just realized I sometimes also get the same sort of effect that I get stretching when I yawn really big. And something else I just remembered, my right eyelid tends to spasm when I'm really sleepy. Haha, our bodies are weird.

I remember asking this question in my 9th grade Biology class some years back. Science teech told us it was because your bladder changes its internal pressure when it rids itself of all the urine, and it's trying to adjust for that pressure change - and apparently you shiver because it's your bladder trying to let your nervous system know. But he was probably wrong, as with every dumb adult male trying to answer this age-old question.

So let me get this right: the interaction between the voluntary nervous system and the involuntary nervous system causes the shiver.... So the involuntary system is the system that governs your bladder while doing normal things, so you don't have to think or concentrate on not peeing until you really have to pee bad. And the involuntary system takes over when you are ready to let the pee flow. So the disconnect of one to the other and then back again causes the shivers. I can see how that would work.

Blood pressure does not go down when you stand up, it goes up. Orthostatic hypotension is when your pressure tanks instead, making you pass out because the intracranial pressure is no longer being overcome due to the added load of gravity. This means that sitting, with it's lower blood pressure will amplify the alleged drop in BP brought about by peeing. Still doesn't have anything to do with the shivers that we can causally connect though.

I have something to add! For reference, I'm 18 years old and male. This happens to me enough for me to take notice of it, but it doesn't always happen when I'm peeing. Sometimes, when I tense my neck neck muscles, it happens too! Also, for me, it almost seems more like a shudder. In fact, it's sometimes preceded by shivers down my spine. These shudders are always involuntary, and once I get the spine shivers, there's no stopping them.

Do you ever actually talk to people? Not trying to be rude by saying you are a shut in or whatever because I would be kinda a hypocrite to say that but like, lots of people besides her talk like that and move their hands when they talk, I get not liking a host but people complaining for stuff she isn't actively in control of is pretty petty. It's kinda self important of people to ask someone to change their entire way or talking just please them, don't you think?

I mean, your voice can be improved like any skill, some people have a talent for voice acting, others train for it. Some people can sing effortlessly, others train for it. She is definitely someone who wasn't born with a good vocal ability and could train to be better, which she is doing as a lot of vocal ability comes from confidence. He has a point. However, it's nothing worth mentioning. Not to mention, lots of people aren't born with the ability to talk well. Ever spoken for the news before when they shove a microphone in your face and ask you questions? I can bet you'll have a voice crack or stutter.

I don't think her voice is the problem; it's rather how she repeats the same melody with her intonation over and over. This kind of thing traps my attention every time and I can't concentrate on what she's saying anymore. OMG flight attendants do that ... every. fucking. time.

Girls don't seem to do it. Guys however... I've never met a guy who didn't. It feels AMAZING! Sort of like if you had your eyes closed, were standing naked and your lover ran her fingernails down the sides of your neck and then down the center of your back. those shivery goosebumps that last only a moment? I worked with a guy who once told me his nipples were incredibly sensitive (the chemical aprons we wore rubbed them and it seems it was impossible to ignore... based on how often he mentioned it). I once told him to tweak them right when his pee-shiver happened. He didn't tell me exactly what happened, but apparently it was mind blowing.

For those saying "but, you shiver when you vomit". The pee shivers are not the same thing. As someone who sometimes gets pee shivers and who has also vomited at some point in my life, they are drastically different. For me, the pee shivers is almost a full body shiver for about 2 seconds. Give or take. If I were to do that during vomiting I would seriously notice it lol and I think it might even interfere with the gag reflex from vomiting. You would not be able to aim your vomit into a bowl for example or bag. It's an uncontrollable spasm, similar to vomiting convulsions. But they don't feel the same at all. They would not look the same at all if you were to see someone do it. It's an uncontrollable shake that is very obvious. It won't be the same as a shake from after vomiting.

So I'm the sort to drop my trousers when in the comfort of my own home. Only place I've got pee shiver syndrome, and I seem to have grown out of it post puberty. My explanation: You're losing trapped warmth inside your clothing and thus increasing the effects of cold drafts, so you might suddenly get cold. Happens often anyways when walking into a new room or floor or whatever in a building, so that's what I would personally assume is going on.

Just a random comment, with a lot of personal experience that doesn't necessarily coorelate. First of all, when i am puking, having diarrhea or normal version, or peeing, there is a common denominator. It's all about the feeling/manipulation of muscles of the involuntary nervous system, which with extreme focus you can seem to influence (not directly control, but somehow make them spasm or w/e) I'm usually using that exact shiver feeling, to get a sense of how close i am to correctly manipulate/activate my intestines when i'm going for no.2

Before I finish watching, let me see if I got it right... your body temperature is still its same internal temperature after expelling the warm liquid, however, there is less mass in your body now so temperature can conduct to your core more rapidly, thus the cold external air sucks heat away from your body core ever so slightly faster after losing water weight.

easy. Water is insulating heat that when your body loses that liquid drastically, your body shivers to break down some energy in your muscles for heat

I have EARLY onset Parkinson's Disease that started to set in when I was 39-40. The major shifts in my neurology and my high amount of self observation have shown that I get a piss shiver when I manage to get my bladder to totally void. I don't always have the muscle awareness to always push when I pee. When I do it's often weak so I try for an actual minute or two. As the spot I'm searching for triggers once in a while (and it's been two months now) it becomes a warm tube inside my lap. I trigger a slowly building shiver that kind of ... goes off well after I've stepped away form the rim... and sat down. Thankfully it's a dry spasm. But it feels like the sphincter of my bladder sealing shut in the way a refrigerator door isn't closed until the magnetic seal seals. To me the piss shiver is the "finished" signal from the ladder.

I don't know about comparing peeing to vomiting - I don't normally vomit 10+ times a day (don't judge, I like to keep well hydrated) . Naturally the body should be more likely to develop a response to something I do all the time more then it would to something I do once a year or so - if I puke once a year on average there's just not much room for evolutionary pressure against puking to express itself in an involuntary response reaction. I don't know how people find pee shivers embarrassing, I like to accompany it with a moderate howl and finish with a leg shake to complement the actual "shake". Life's short, you got to have fun with it.

I've pondered this for decades and my conclusion is this..... All that warm liquid that's been building up inside you (which contains unwanted elements) along with water, is now being let loose from the inside. Just makes me want to quiver with relief. Like an excosism!..... of liquid.
