Back in the day, we used to be able to do this with ease ,but HD got larger then became SSDs, so the memory storage is the shit now so no need to do externals, but VST manufacturers didn't account for the current explosion of vst manufacturers and stores that sell all manufacturers vst along with these large sample folders! Now you'd need to spend a small fortune (musician are broke,lol) to get the biggest ssd/hd! For those using desktops, the best way to do this is internally, with internal drives/ssd, it'll load faster vs going through the wire of a usb cable! Look up, ICY DOCK! And if you can afford it, get into NVME ssd! Up to 3500MB R/W!

@DDS825 what is the best external hard drive to get in your opinion?
@DDS8252 жыл бұрын
Right now I use a Sandisk SSD. I’d definitely recommend that.

Sup bro. another quick question. I got this on a Mac. but I got all the vst like Kontakt and Omnisphere install in my computer. to drag the library does it put anything at risk?
@DDS8257 жыл бұрын
You just need to move all of the library files and you’ll have to redirect the vsts to the new location

my question is how do u install the 3rd party vst libraries to your external hard drive just whipped my mac clean because i just got the maschine mk3 and i want the maschine to find the plugin with no issues
@DDS8256 жыл бұрын
You move them to the external and change the location of the libraries inside of the preferences in the vsts.

@@DDS825 do they work much faster than in the case of installing them internally in c drive? I am at the starting level on my production journey so should I go for an external ssd and install all the packs and software in that ssd ? would it be a good investment/Ideo or should I continue with whatever I have for now?
@DDS8255 жыл бұрын
It just saves a lot of space!

Thanks for the info I finally invested in an SSD 1TB. What about my plugins and project, will I be transferring them to the same external drive as well? Or do the plugins stay on the comp and projects get put on separate drive? My bad just trying to see if I’m going to need to invest in another drive.
