Why do interviewers always want to make Nyle DiMarco cry?

Mic’s Evan Ross Katz sat down with Nyle Dimarco, winner of cycle 22 of “America’s Next Top Model’ and season 22 of ‘Dancing with the Stars’ to discuss the importance of including deaf people in conversations around diversity, why he wouldn’t do “Top Model” again if asked (despite winning the damn thing), what it’s like dating while deaf, how the fashion industry is doing in its efforts to better cater to people with disabilities and why he’d make a better Hawkeye in “The Avengers” than Jeremy Renner.

Translators work with frozen texts such as written material or videos. Someone who works with language relay in real-time is called an interpreter.

The interpreter is sooo good! I’m an interpreting student right now, but I did notice that at 8:17 Nyle says he went to “Maryland school for the deaf, one of the best schools in the country” but the interpreter said “Maryland is one of the only deaf school in the country”

He is NOT a translator! He's an interpreter! Also, the interpreters do not need to be shown on camera in this type of a situation! I should know! I am one!

Smiles bring the best of a model however it also depends on the photographers on whatever emotions he wants from you to create and display. Nyle is amazingly full of emotions.

I love this man. First saw him the other day on Station 19 season 2 finale and then realized after that he was on ANTM cycle 22 so went and watched it. I'm so happy he won. He's such a genuine person.

CAPTION ALL OF YOUR VIDEOS!!! Ironic that you delve into this ableist dialogue with Nyle DiMarco himself, and you, Mic, neglect to caption all of your videos! Make a commitment to it, and you'll see results!

I’m talking about Mic’s other videos. I’m aware this video has captions, but the other videos like the video about Nyle being in the Marvel videos doesn’t...?!

1) Thank you for captioning this. It'd be great if all your videos were captioned. 2) Someone converting American Sign Language to English (&/or vice versa), is referred to as an "Interpreter", not a 'translator'. 3) Your decision to cut away to show the Nyle's interpreter speaking was an EXTREMELY poor & disrespectful one. A simple on- screen text indicating "voice of interpreter" would've been enough. If you wouldn't pan away from an English speaker answering a question, then you shouldn't do so for an ASL user answering a question.

Your number 3 is some sort of giving credit to the interpreter. By knowing how much I know of Nyle, it was his decision to have that done that way. Good day

This was a VERY good interview. The only one way it could have possibly been better was if the interviewer asked the questions and interacted in ASL. Would have made their conversation a lot more organic. But I do realise that's perhaps too much to ask. Great interview nonetheless! I love Nyle!

really wish more of the questions focused on parts of this performer that arent just his deafness.. like i appreciate calling attention to the lack of deaf representation in film etc BUT the interviewer asks one question about tokenizing and then basically tokenizes him...

I'm involved with the Deaf community so I fully understand the words 'disability and Deaf ' don't mix ON ONE HAND but ON THE OTHER HAND many Deaf are happy to accept DA. Pension, so when it's convenient they will accept the term. This of course has to do with the mentality of being an 'oppressed minority group' so if 'your're going to oppress me and label me disabled and then pay me for it, why not....you owe me for all the oppression and blocked access.' Often this oppression is perpetuated when Deaf children are taught from day one, 'don't trust hearing people, they are the oppressor'.

Bruh. this interview sucks. The fact that they couldn't widen the view to see Nyle and Evan is irritating. The fact they called his interpreter a translator and he continued to say "disabled." and that not all their videos are captioned??? come on yall. Yall can do so much better

it's very cringey to watch this interviewer repeatedly assume a life of loneliness and despair simply because Nyle is Deaf. and all the information out there on Nyle, and what he speaks here, shows you a person who grew up surrounded by community and access to the world. The interviewer does not have knowledge or understanding of Deafness and how it differs from the DA community. a Deaf reporter would have been way more interesting :)
