@nat turner THATs so clear He didnt come to '"Abolish the Law" but to "Fulfill", correct. BUT, Give me the chapter that the word "Sabbath" is "fulfilled"? Brother, "LAW" not sabbath, there is a lot of LAW in the bible. if its fulfilled I tell you its NOT Gods Law and or The 10 Commandments. What Christ talking about is the LAW from mankind sense from Abraham, Isaac, Moses, Jacob, and etc. that is the law, like Circumcision and sacrificing the Lamb, cause Christ is now the lamb who will sacrifice for our sin, and other law from them, not from GOD's Law, nor the Sabbath day. There is non in the bible that the "LAW of GOD" has been fulfilled" or "The 10 Commandments" has been fulfilled or "The Sabbath Day" has been fulfilled. Dont be fool! @@jo9354Many places suggest a change, not least the general fulfillment of the ceremonial law: Hebrews 4 for example speaks of “another day” and distinguishes rest in Christ and the Jewish sabbath. Also, the tradition of meeting on the first day of the week to celebrate the Eucharist is certainly present in the New Testament not to mention in the early church (breaking bread has historically been interpreted as the Eucharist, whereas modern evangelicals don’t want to see it that way). Like many modern evangelical readings of scripture, holding onto the Jewish sabbath rather than God’s rest seems to miss the substance of the law for the letter, ironically like the Pharisees. Unfortunately a comment section is not long enough to cite all texts and make a complete case.

@ESteen0815 ... The Fourth Commandment has been God's design for us from creation, before Adam and Eve sinned. There weren't any Jews in the beginning. God created the seventh day and set it aside as Holy; a rest day for humanity to spend time with Him. If we are yoked with Jesus we will do what He does...rest on the day He rests on. The rest of your arguments are based on the tradition of man, not the Commands of God.

The Laws of the Mosaic Covenant are fulfilled in Christ - The Law and the Sabbath were pointing to Christ, it was a shadow of what was to come, and not the substance (Colossians 2:16-17). Jesus said that He came not to abolish the law but to fulfill the law (Matthew 5:17). In fulfilling the law, He completed the law. How did He do this? Jesus fulfilled the Law by obeying the law perfectly and by completing the sacrificial system. Jesus saves to the uttermost! In what way can we offer one more sacrifice for the forgiveness of sins? Jesus pronouncement, “It is finished,” signified the completion and fulfillment of the law.

St. Paul did not use the word Mystical. It was developed more recently to bring out the fact that this union is unique, there is no parallel to it. It is not the same as the union of a physical body, nor that of a business corporation. The Church, the Mystical Body, exists on this earth, and is called the Church militant, because its members struggle against the world, the flesh and the devil. The Church suffering means the souls in Purgatory. The Church triumphant is the Church in heaven. The unity and cooperation of the members of the Church on earth, in Purgatory, in Heaven is also called the Communion of Saints. When St. Paul uses the word "Saints" in opening an Epistle, he does not mean they are morally perfect. He has in mind Hebrew qadosh, which means set aside for God, or coming under the covenant. Being such means of course they are called to moral perfection. But of course, not all have reached it in this world. The word "Saint" in the modern sense means someone who has been canonized by the Church in recent times, or was accepted as such by the Church in earlier times. If a person is shown to have practiced heroic virtue--beyond what people in general do - in all virtues, the title "Venerable" is given; with two miracles by that one's intercession, the title is "Blessed"; two more miracles can lead to canonization and the title of Saint.

Rabbi Yakov (Teacher of Judah haNasi/the writer of the Mishna) ) taught that the Sabbath is only a day of preparation for the banquet which will be laid out in the Olam Haba when Messiah comes. Jesus is Messiah and he has already arrived, lived, died and resurrected. As Catholics, we right now living in the Messianic Olam Haba. God has put before us His feast, the Eucharistic sacrifice of thanksgiving. In the OT the day of preparation for the Sabbath is from Sundown Thursday to Sundown Friday at which point the Sabbath began. But what was Sabbath in preparation for? Rabbi Jacob explains that the Sabbath is the day of preparation for the Olam Haba. The seventh day = sabbath. So the eighth day is the day that they were preparing for. This is why in the NT the first day is also known as the eighth day as it follows the Sabbath. As you see, in the Olam Haba the day of worship is going to be the Eighth day/First day/Sunday when the Eucharistic banquet is set by God. To worship on Saturday instead of Sunday is to deny that we are living in the Messianic Age. It is a denial that Christ is the Messiah. He fulfils the last Sabbath by not disturbing it, rising on Sunday, fulfilling the Sabbath. If one is Jewish ie Hebrew Catholic it is fine to take part in Sabbath activities but the Sabbath must not replace the day of worship which is Sunday. How is this to be understood? The seventh day (Sabbath) is the day of preparation for the day that is to come in the Olam Haba (Sunday). God Himself will lay out the banquet. It is the Eucharist, the sacrifice of thanksgiving which the sages prophesied. The Pharisees were upset when Jesus did “works” of healing on the Sabbath, they were outraged that Jesus was healing on a Sabbath. Jesus healed on a Sabbath because He is the Lord of the Sabbath, the Sabbath has no power over Christ or His Church. It is the Jewish apostles who began worshiping on the Eighth Day/Sunday (according to Jewish calendar)... the day following the Sabbath, because the Sabbath is now fulfilled. *** The Bible does infact show that Sunday is Christ's Sabbath and that it was God's plan before the foundation of the world. The Book of Deuteronomy clearly shows this. Sunday is Christ's New Covenant Sabbath. Here is how and why. In the Old Testament there are two lists of the Ten Commandments, one in the Book of Exodus and another list is in the Book of Deuteronomy: Ex 20:1-17 and Deut 5:1-21, both of which explain the purpose of the Sabbath but both explain the purpose of the Sabbath differently. The Book of Exodus tells us the purpose of the Sabbath is to rest and to remember God's creation, however, in Deuteronomy Moses tells us that the purpose of the Seventh day Sabbath is to remember the Exodus, that is, the Exodus from Egypt. The Old Testament is a prefiguration of the New Testament - the Old Testament points to its fulfilment in the New Testament. The Letter to the Hebrews tells us that the New Covenant is greater than the Old Covenant (Heb 8:6) - and that the New Covenant reality is made present in Christ Jesus - while the Old Covenant pointed to something greater to come - the fulfilment of the Old. Jesus Christ, by His death and resurrection, brought about the true Exodus - not from slavery to Pharaoh in Egypt - but the true and real Exodus from slavery to sin and death. If the purpose of the Sabbath in the Old Testament/Old Covenant was to remember the Exodus from Egypt - then the purpose of the Sabbath in the New Testament/New Covenant is to remember the True Exodus of which came through Jesus Christ, which is the Exodus from sin and death, and which is clearly greater than the Old Covenant Exodus; for Christ's Exodus was accomplished by his death and his resurrection - his resurrection which took place on the First Day of the week - Sunday - not Saturday. So Christians celebrate the true Exodus from slavery to sin and death on the day Christ accomplished it. In addition - by Christ's resurrection on the First Day of the week - Sunday - Christ has brought about a New Creation - which the New Testament confirms - Christ Jesus IS the New Creation and He IS First-Fruits. There are Sunday Sabbaths in the Old Testament (Lev 23: 9-14) called First-Fruits. God made the Jewish Feast of First-Fruits in the Old Testament to always fall on the Sunday - that is - the Sunday which followed the Saturday Sabbath in the week of Passover week - so Sunday Sabbaths are already given us in the Old Testament - and First-Fruits day is the very day on which Christ rose from the dead following the Passover Last Supper. God had always planned that Christ would rise on the First-Fruits Sunday Sabbath - and Christians obedient to Christ's First-Fruits Sabbath Resurrection - gather on every Sunday. The Letter to the Hebrews tells us that there is a Sabbath day for Christians to keep but that it is "on a different day." Heb 4:8-9, says 'For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later about another day. There remains then, a Sabbath-rest for the the people of God.' Christians are bound to keep "a" Sabbath rest but this is "on another day" - Christ's Exodus Day - Sunday. So Christians celebrate and obey and fulful the requirements of both the Book of Exodus (creation - now a New Creation in Christ Jesus) and the requirements of the Book of Deuteronomy (remembering the Exodus from Egypt - now remembering the true Exodus from slavery to sin and death) by their Sunday celebration of the fulfilment and reality brought about by Christ on the First Day of the week - Sunday. Christians celebrate this on the day of the week Christ accomplished it. In Christ Jesus Christians through Baptism have already entered the heavenly Jerusalem (Heb12:22) and sit with him on his heavenly throne (Eph 2:6) - they already participate in the eternal heavenly rest - and Sunday is a foretaste of that eternal rest - Sunday Mass (and every day of the week when we go to weekday Mass) we enter into that eternal heavenly community of the angles who forever pray and sing "Holy Holy Holy, Lord God of Hosts.." - this is the Mass - this is what the Mass is for - we don't have to wait for death and for heaven after death - we can come to the heavenly hosts and join with them in the eternal praise of God. The Jews in their Sabbath keeping remember the week just past - but we Christians put God first in our week - by bringing everything we are and have, with and for Christ - Christ is the First and the Last - Sunday is the First Day of the week so we gather together to offer and give Him everything - and He gives us Himself - truly present in the Eucharist.

Or, maybe, you never read your Bible. There are many Sabbaths in the Bible. Not just the 7th day of the week. We Catholics read the Bible 😇

Question: Where does it say in the Bible that the 1st day is Sunday? Where does it say in the Bible that the 2nd day is Monday? Etc. etc. Where does it say in the Bible that the 7th day is Saturday? 📖📝

@@lishmahlishmah: When the women came to Christ's tomb after the Sabbath on the first day of the week. Sabbath is the 7th day (Saturday), therefore Sunday is the first. And this seven-day cycle began in Genesis with creation. Christ obeyed the fourth commandment with the others and said that He is the Lord of the Sabbath. Mark 2:28. He observed the seventh day (Lord's day). People of His faith have been faithfully keeping track and observing this day ever since. Saturday.

Who was God communicating with? Was he communicating his commands to Israel or did he establish a covenant with the entire world? It is obvious he gave the commands to Moses, called the Mosaic Law, and it was a covenant between the Lord and Israel. It did not establish a covenant with the entire world. As gentiles, we were never in a covenant relationship with God until Christ. Thus, we are in the NEW covenant. Not part of the Law. The first apostles made that quite clear in their writings, but sadly so many refuse to read and heed them.

Hi if a person was to go to the cross we would find the day Jesus kept as of the 7th day sabbath The Jewish people called the 6th day was preparation day The Christian faith calls this good Friday The gospel of Jesus christ states the next day was the sabbath That Saturday Then on the first day of the week which is Sunday Jesus rose from his tomb The gospel tells that the apostle and the church rest on the sabbath do to the 4th commandment of God We need to asks ourselves a question? Why did Jesus and his father wait until Sunday morning to bring Jesus back to life They waited a whole day until the sabbath was over to bring Jesus back to life Here is the answer we're looking for. The father and son had to obey their own law of God because the 10 commandments are a reflection of sin The father and son won't sin so they had to wait a full day in where they wouldn't break their own law for each other for this would be an example for the rest of us on his holy day the 7th day sabbath Friends Jesus told us nothing in his laws would change from the dotting of the letter I or the crossing of the letter T would be altar in his law So why is the Christian faith keeping the 1st day of the week ? In order to understand all this then we have to understand what happened in 2nd thessalonians chapter 2 verse 3 an 4 2nd thessalonians chapter 2 verse 3 and 4 In no means let no man decieve you for first a great falling away will take place first and then the man of sin or the son of perdition will be revealed in his own time Who opposseth and exalteth himself above everything CALLED GOD and he siteths in a temple as of God When it states as of God This is insinuating that he sits on a throne on earth as of the father in heaven sits on a throne in heaven For this individual would opposseth and exalteth himself above everything CALLED GOD , what are the title that Belong to Jesus and his father ? The father in heaven is known as the HOLY FATHER Mathew chapter 23 verse 9 Jesus tells us, call no man on earth your father but only the one you have in heaven The pope comes along and he is a man who takes up the title of holy father in which that title is only given to the most high God in heaven Then what about the title that belongs to Jesus himself Dose the pope take up Jesus's own title? In mathew chapter 16 verse 18 The pope proclaims he is the successor of Saint Peter And then he the pope proclaims this makes him the Rock upon the church In 1 corthinians chapter 10 verse 4 The apostle Paul Is telling us That Jesus christ is the Rock upon the church, Not peter For in mathew chapter 16 verse 18 Jesus is the subject in that chapter and he Jesus is speaking of himself as the only Rock upon the church In mathew chapter 7 verse 24 to 27 Does Jesus tell us to build our house of faith upon the apostle peter or upon the Rock which is Jesus christ So the pope of Rome siteths in a temple and acting as God himself in heaven What about he opposseth himself What dose opposseth means ? Opposseth means to be a representative for God in heaven or become the 3rd member of a party What dose exalteth mean? To be set at the highest level of rank or be reverence by many So dose the pope opposseth himself above everything called God? Answer yes he dose. For here the facts to prove that the pope opposseth himself For Jesus told us in his gospel that no man can go to the father without going thru Jesus frist So the father becomes the 1st party Then Jesus becomes the 2nd party Then the pope comes along and he tells us if we are not within his catholic church we are found lost and they who are found lost have no relationship with Jesus So without being in the catholic faith and going thru the popes own authority we will not have a relationship with Jesus and then lose the opportunity of seeing the father in heaven So the pope is telling us, it's him who is on the bottom line of this structure, and he's the one who has the keys of heaven and nobody has a relationship with Jesus without going thru him first What about exalteth himself The pope proclaims he is the successor of Saint Peter the highest rank upon the catholic faith and he is reverence by 1.3 billion catholic and by the time Jesus returns that number will Tripple So if the pope is the man of sin or the son of perdition in 2nd thessalonians chapter 2 verse 3 and 4 What is the definition of son of perdition? Scripture tells us that definition John chapter 17 verse 12 Jesus himself brings that title to an individual John chapter 6 verse 70 and 71 Jesus points out who carries the title of son of perdition The apostle judas was that man Who was judas iscariot? Let's examine judas He was within the first church He was apostle of Jesus for he volunteered to be his apostle He betrayed Jesus and scattered the chuch by his agenda Jesus calls this apostle of his the son of perdition Here are some other titles Jesus give us The son of man is Jesus christ The sons of thunder are James and John the apostles for Jesus The son of perdition is an apostle of Jesus who let the devil enter into him to betray Jesus In 2nd thessalonians chapter 2 verse 3 and 4 The apostle Paul is using Jesus own ideal in John chapter 17 verse 12 to give the church a warning who will be the man of sin The popes are the only men on earth who proclaim and carry the title of the princes of the apostles of the gentiles for Jesus christ So the apostle Paul is telling the church look out for a man who claims he is an apostle for Jesus and he siteths in a temple and being as of God The pope sits in the gentile temple in Rome Saint peter Cathedral friends So what about the great falling before the son of perdition in verse 3 The pope recieve the throne of Caesar in 538ad justinian of pagan Rome seated a pope at the throne of Caesar and he vigilous ceased the cepther of Caesar and torch of Saint Peter and church and state became a union. What event lead to this? In 321ad Constantine Unites Christianity with paganism and then the rd was paved for a new religion and a church in where the whole would could unite under a deception What happened in 321ad? The uniting of Christianity and paganism were compromised Paganism excepted the son of God for the sun of god And Christianity sacrifice the 7th day of the week for the pagan Sunday observance of their sungod that they worship And ever since 321ad until our day that falling away has been massive And now the day has come where the church of christ is aware of the man of sin or the son of perdition would come from in the world And he's coming from Rome The catholic church Friends Jesus face a son of perdition in the 1st church and we that are in the last church will also face this issue with a fallen apostle who claims he an apostle for Jesus

@Marriage4life THE END OF THE SABBATH LAW - What law of commandments separated Jews from Gentiles? The Law of Moses! One of those commandments was to observe the Sabbath. Ephesians 2:11-15 - Today, we are dead to the Law of Moses. That is the same law that said, 'You shall not covet' and also said, 'Remember the Sabbath day; to keep it holy.' The entire Law of Moses was nailed to the cross. Romans 7:4-7 - The only reason that we are not to covet today is because the Law of Christ commands us! Romans 13:9, Hebrews 10:1, 9 - Those who appeal to the old law make make themselves a debtor to do the whole old law. Galatians 5:2-3.

@the Prodigal Catholic Wrong! Keeping the sabbath was part of the law that Christ took away. “He . . . canceled out the certificate of death consisting of decrees against us . . .; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. Therefore no one is to act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day-things which are a mere shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ” (Colossians 2:14-17). Christians are no more obligated to keep the sabbath than the other Old Testament festivals or its food and drink regulations! In fact, we are warned against going back to the Law to justify our practices. To do so severs us from Christ (Galatians 5:1-4).

I'm amazed this priest admitted the Sabbath was established at Creation. That means the Sabbath is not just for the Jews. Most Catholic priests and Evangelicals deny this. What puzzles me is that Aquinas would beg to differ with the good friar. According to Aquinas, the Sabbath was changed, not because of scripture but because of tradition and the authority of the Roman church. This can be read in Summa Theologica. Foolish of followers of Christ to want to continue worshipping on Saturdays when they have no idea why/what Sabbath was for.

If you go to mass on saturday afternoon, than it would be basically a very early Sunday. That's how I view it and been told. But if we really think about keeping the sabbath holy, I find it goes beyond attending mass. It should really be a day to set aside. Maybe pray for a bit. *** 1 The Old Testament gives us TWO lists of the Ten Commandments - one in the Book of Exodus and another list in the Book of Deuteronomy. The Ten Commandments in Deuteronomy 5:15 tells us that the purpose of the Sabbath is to remember the Exodus - that is - the Exodus from slavery to Pharaoh in Egypt. If the purpose of the Sabbath in the Old Covenant is to remember the Exodus from slavery to Pharaoh in Egypt, then the purpose of the Sabbath in the New Covenant is to remember the Exodus Jesus Christ brought about by His death and resurrection. Jesus Christ brought about the true Exodus - the Exodus from sin and death - which the Old Covenant Exodus was only a shadow. Paul tells us in Colossians 2: 16-17, that not only are the "ceremonial laws" a "shadow" but that the Seventh-Day Sabbath is a "shadow" also. Here it is in Paul's Letter to the Colossians 2:16-17 : '16. Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival (that's the annual Jewish feasts), a New Moon celebration (that's the monthly Jewish feasts), or a Sabbath day (that's the weekly Seventh-Day Sabbaths). 17. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ.' "Shadow" does NOT mean "done away with", it means "transformed". The Old Covenant Passover feast was not "done away with" but was transformed by Christ himself into the Body and Blood of Christ at the Last Supper. The sacrifice of the lamb in the Temple was NOT done away with but transformed into the sacrifice of Christ (the true Lamb) on the Cross. The altar in the Temple was not done away with but transformed into the altar of the wood of the cross. A "shadow" is literally an outline on the ground or wall. A shadow on the ground is not me - I am the real thing - the shadow is only an image, an outline. So too, the "shadow" in the Old Testament has become the reality in Christ at his death and resurrection, which he accomplished on the First-Day of the Week - not on the Seventh-Day of the Week. That is why Hebrews tells us that there is still a Sabbath day for Christians to keep but that it is On Another Day - that is what Hebrews tells us - the Sabbath is to be kept but kept on Another Day - its right there in Hebrews. Hebrews 4: 8-11, specifically verse 8, shows us its on "another day" For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later about another day. 9 There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; 10 for anyone who enters God’s rest so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience. God had always planned that Christ would rise on the First-Fruits Sunday Sabbath - and Christians obedient to Christ's First-Fruits Sabbath Resurrection - gather every Sunday. Christians celebrate and obey and fulful the requirements of both the Book of Exodus (creation - now a New Creation in Christ Jesus) and the requirements of the Book of Deuteronomy (remembering the Exodus from Egypt - now remembering the true Exodus from slavery to sin and death) by their Sunday celebration of the fulfilment and reality brought about by Christ on the First Day of the week - Sunday.

Therefore the Lord your God has commanded you to observe the Sabbath day. ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! Sabbath was created at creation !! NO exodus then!!! Only Adam and Eve!!! Mark 2:27-28 These verses contain a number of things critical to Sabbath keeping: Jesus refers to the Sabbath as a specific day; it is THE Sabbath, not a Sabbath. Jesus presents it as the Creator's specific and thoughtful gift to man. It was not made just for the Jews, but for mankind. When God created the Sabbath, He intended it from the beginning as a UNIVERSAL blessing to benefit mankind. He made it to help ensure man's physical and spiritual well-being. The broader context reveals a disagreement over how to keep it. Jesus claims to be its Lord, its Owner or Master, and He thus lays claim to His right to show by His example and verbal instruction how to keep it, not whether to keep it. I have tried to find a biblical evidence and I have questioned with other Christians why they worship on Sunday and I have not found a compelling biblical argument in favor of Sunday worship. I believe there is an institute described in Daniel 7:25 that has tried to change sabbath to Sunday but is counterfeit.

I am the same, I know the gospels inside and out but, struggled, the Bible in a year has been such a blessing for me. I am behind though I keep trying to catch up, but, my sister was in critical care for 3 months (Non covid) and I was spending all my time doing the Rosaries. She survived even though the doctor's gave up on her. It would have been devastating as my 16 year old niece only has her mom, me and my 85 year old mom. I will have to binge the Bible in the year and try to catch up now. Truly is a blessing the Bible in a Year. The Rosaries saved her life. I prayed for 20 hours pretty well straight when the doctors phoned me after she had a cardiac arrest in their ER (they forgot to mention that as we were not even allowed to see her). She had a ruptured appendix and the sepsis went right through her body she was put on life support and was in a coma. She said when they took it out and she opened her eyes the nurse almost fell off her chair. When she told me I was laughing just visualizing her opening her eyes and smiling and saying, "I am ALIVE". I love the Rosaries but, need to get back on the Bible in a year.

I prefer to sit down and follow along with my bible and a cup of tea, but that doesn't always work out. I know you will catch up, we will finish soon!

@@mrswilbert The majority of people, in my estimate, is in a very unhealthy spiritual condition. I see in many believers, churches, and denominations an alarming trend - ignorance of God’s word by some, rejection of God’s word by others, and (at the most frightening level) an outright despising of the word of the Lord by a few. The results, as we will see, are catastrophic. As we are nearing the end of the world and the close of probation is near. Repent and be baptized otherwise the second death will be the end for you. Jesus Christ is our ONLY mediator and praying the rosary is a pagan tradition taught from generation to generation. PLEASE STUDY and don't allow satan to win your soul. The Catholic church teaches many erroneous doctrines. I highly recommend you read the Holy Bible along with a concordance and also recommend the books: The Great Controversy, Patriarchs and Prophets, The Drsire of Ages, Acts of the Apostles. Also recommend Foxes Book of Martyrs. God doesn't force anyone to obey or love Him. Funny how Rome killed millions because they would not bow to their teachings. Wow! Excellent teaching. "For if that first covenant had been faultless, then no place would have been sought for a second." (Heb.8:7) The fact that Jesus said there was a 'new covenant' in His Blood, proves that the old covenant was not complete- because if it was perfect there would be no room for a new covenant. Jer. 31:31 saw that day coming. (You also helped me understand the double meaning of "Sheva" (seven- or covenant). Why when translators translate "Beersheba" they're not sure if it's 7 wells- or the well of covenant.)

Thank you Fr. Mike for your explanation, however i am still not confident. i feel that when we received the 10 commandments, God didnt intend for them to change or be interpreted differently. So i feel hesitant to call Sunday the Sabbath. Going back in time the day of rest (Sunday) became the day of rest as follows - Sunday was another work day in the Roman Empire. On March 7, 321, however, Roman Emperor Constantine I issued a civil decree making Sunday a day of rest from labor, stating: All judges and city people and the craftsmen shall rest upon the venerable day of the sun. I think when the Lord rose from the dead on Sunday isnt that day of celebration, a new day, a new beginning, the first day to a new covenant not the last. FYI i am an active practicing Roman Catholic who is studying the faith and wanting to understand our teaching not just skate by. Please dont take my comment / questioning as persecution.

Now, please think about this: "the 7th month, the 1st day of the month" can't always be a Saturday. It can't always be the 7th day of the week. But it is HOLY. And you have to do a Sabbath-Day. Strange, isn't it? Or, maybe, you should read your Bible. *There are many Sabbaths in the Bible* . Not just the 7th day of the week. We Catholics read the Bible 😇

The word rest means (Nuach) in Hebrew: To lay your weight down, a cease of business and activities, a more modern translation meaning is to be refreshed. In Psalm 23, you get a beautiful picture of this. Although many think of this as the psalm to read at a funeral of a loved one, it actually has nothing to do with death, but the refreshment and nurturing of rest in Christ and IMHO the rest of Sabbath. Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel wrote a fabulous book called "Sabbath". It was his favorite subject to discuss. A gem of a book. Even if you are not a Jew it offers a view of Sabbath that is very beautifully written, which can enrich a Christians understanding of it's Biblical history and the future celebration of it in Heaven with the Messiah.

There is not only a clear (and great) biblical theological meaning for the Christian Shabbat "shift". The Resurrection with the liberation of mankind from sins and from Death is certainly the main reason. No doubt: that's the true Shabbat. Now, you always must count 7 days starting from the Resurrection day. (The Resurrection Day is the Feast and the Rest. Shabbat in ancient Hebrew means "Rest"). But there is also a contingent historical reason: in the first 3 centuries of Christianity, the Christian Jews were expelled from the synagogues and they were persecuted. Also for this reason they had to meet secretly, on a different day. They usually met early in the morning on the first day after Saturday, before heading to work. In this way, Christians celebrated the day of the Resurrection in the right very early morning time (described in the New Testament), and at the same time they lived under the persecution which in any case had forced them to gather on that working day. We must always keep in mind that (in the first 3 centuries of christianity) the Roman Empire allowed Judaism but persecuted Christianity. The Christian faith was born as a faith fiercely persecuted by all the people. For 3 centuries, gathering on Sunday is viewed with suspicion throughout the Empire. At the cost of their lives, Christians defended the Day of the Lord. Persecuted by everyone, they decided to defend the Day of the Lord because for us Christians: that's the Holy 8th day. Our beloved Jewish Fathers had told us: it was the Messianic Era Sabbath foreseen by Israel. The well-known 8th day. In the same historical period, Jews who did not believe in Christ and Christians who believed in Christ, they split sharply in order to distinguish their 2 identities: the Jews were distinguished with their Sabbath on Saturday, the Christians with their Sabbath on Sunday. The "divorce" was done. Full stop. Who were right? Who is right? Both of them! If you believe that the Messiah has not yet arrived you must celebrate on Saturday! The Word of God is clear and your key is the Creation week, together with the Israel Tradition of Saturday/Shabbat. If you believe that the Messiah has arrived (Jesus Christ Son of God, Our Savior) you must celebrate on Sunday! Because the Word of God is clear and Jesus Christ is the key to understand everything in the Israel history and in the world history (Creation & Redemption). What should we do today? For a Christian, it would be a good idea to do both days. (Some Christian groups do it). But if he can't celebrate for 2 days a week, he must know that the true Christian Sabbath is Sunday. (Btw. In Italian the word is: Domenica = The Lord's Day. We have no pagan Sun-day in Italian language. And we have no pagan Saturn-day. A few points of clarification: the sabbath is from sundown to sundown thus in the old covenant Friday evening to Saturday evening. That is why Catholics can fulfill their Sunday obligation on Saturday evening. Secondly, although Christians since the beginning came together on the 8th day, Jesus is our true sabbath rest thus EVERY DAY is a sabbath day because every day we can receive Our Lord in the Eucharist!

Fr. Mike, Jews believe that in the Olam Haba, that the day of worship on Sunday. This is evident in the Mishna, Pirkei Avot 4, and in the commentaries. Rabbi Yaakov ben Kurshai, the teacher of Yudah haNassi explains this. The Sabbath is the vestibule through which one enters into the Olam Haba - the Messianic age. In the banquet room of the Olam Haba, the Lord Himself would lay out the banquet. The Jews believed that the sacrifice in the Olam Haba would be a bloodless thanksgiving sacrifice. The word used by the Hellenic Jews was Eucharist. As the commentaries explain, one must repent of their sins before eating at the banquet feast of the Olam Haba. However, unlike the sacrifice of the lachem hapanim (bread of the presence of G-d) and wine before the Kodesh Hakodashim in the temple which was eaten by priests alone, this thanksgiving sacrifice was to be eaten by all. The Sabbath itself was understood to be a preparation for the Olam Haba which was to come. It is due to this understanding that the early Catholic Jews referred to Sunday as the Eighth day as the Seventh Day was a preparation of the Eighth day.

Thank you very much for your comment. There is a lot of need of experts of Jewish teaching and thorough Jewish interpretation of the Torah, like you, to fully understand Catholicism. Only a few people understand that if your Faith is that the *Jewish Messiah* (Jesus Christ) has arrived then you are Catholic. All the other interpretations do not refer to the *Jewish Messiah.* (Or, in the best case, they are good ok but seriously *incomplete* interpretations of the Jewish Messiah. In the worst case, they are just pagan stories about a non-Jewish Messiah).
@deusimperator3 жыл бұрын
@@lishmahlishmah Well the Tanakh (the Jewish OT) leaves out much, so that the people themselves become the living scripture. The Jewish faith is not based on the Tanakh but on Torah Shebaal Peh. That understanding of the Olam Haba is from the Torah Shebaal Peh (Oral Tradition) and found in the Mishna. G-d forbad Moses from writing the Torah Shebaal Peh because G-d wanted the Jewish people to become the living scripture, the living tradition so that the faith was transmitted from generation to generation through parents and the culture. This is why Christ never wrote a book, He taught the apostles and disciples an oral tradition. Just like Judaism, Catholicism is meant to be transmitted by parents to children and through the culture. Parents are the living scripture to children. This is also why Tradition is so important,

In Scripture the Christians gathered together to break bread meaning partaking in the Holy Eucharist on the first day of the week which is Sunday. Even the Anti-Christian mob falsely labeled Easter as a Pagan holiday didn't realize every Sunday in the Church is a mini-Easter in which Christians celebrate the Day of our Lord's Resurrection. Even if a Pagan holiday fell upon Easter in Pagan celebrations it was never about our Lord's Resurrection yet alone is celebrated on every Sunday of the year. In relation too Good Friday every Friday in the year is a Day of Penance. Many Christians are unaware on Fridays Christians are suppose to do an act of penance. Since the early Church Christians would abstain from eating meat on Fridays unless a Solemnity was on a Friday as major feast days Solemnities were meant to be a celebration of feasting and drinking which is why abstaining from eating meat wasn't done on those days.

Father Schmitz, As a Jew from Israel(Jerusalem) and a former Yeshiva student - I confirm what you said about Judaism in the first part. SHABBAT is from the root letters (sound as sh' ; ba ; t) that is the root of both the word "to pause"/"cease"(lishbot) and the word "seven"("Sheva") - and we bless it because it was given to Moses in the form of the ten commandments. obviously, it has a connection to the historical event of the creation of the world. Very interesting to know the reason Christians blessed Sunday (the 8th day), we see ourselves as the chosen people, and that god didn't forsake us so we keep the covenant. but I do respect other perspectives on faith. especially when figures like you present it in a very nice way. you are welcome to Jerusalem !!

Interesting arguments by those trying to credit Constantine for the Sunday worship... Do read the writings of Justin the Martyr in his dialogue with Trypho (a Jew) when he talks about the Lord's Day. Just so folks know... Justin the Martyr lived at least 100+ years before Constantine (if my math is correct). In the light of that dialogue, the question becomes... Did Constantine establish the Church or did the Church influence the emperor's decision. 😊

“Nowhere in the Bible is it stated that worship should be changed from Saturday to Sunday...Now the Church...instituted, by God’s authority, Sunday as the day of worship. This same Church, by the same divine authority, taught the doctrine of Purgatory long before the Bible was made. We have, therefore, the same authority for Purgatory as we have for Sunday.” Martin J. Scott, Things Catholics Are Asked About, 1927 edition, p. 136. “It is well to remind the Presbyterians, Baptists, Methodists, and all other Christians, that the Bible does not support them anywhere in their observance of Sunday. Sunday is an institution of the Roman Catholic Church, and those who observe the day observe a commandment of the Catholic Church.” Priest Brady, in an address reported in The News, Elizabeth, New Jersey, March 18, 1903.

The reason why Christians worship on the first day of the week (i.e. Sunday) is quite simple. This is the day on which Christians have always worshiped. In Acts 20:7 we read: "Now on the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul, ready to depart the next day, spoke to them and continued his message until midnight." What was notable about the first day of the week? It was the day when the disciples came together to partake of the Lord's Supper. The first day of the week was also the day when contributions were collected. "On the first day of the week let each one of you lay something aside, storing up as he may prosper, that there be no collections when I come" (I Corinthians 16:2). While the day of rest, the Sabbath day, held significance to the people of Israel, the first day of the week holds special meaning to Christians. It was on the first day of the week that our Lord rose from the grave. "Now when the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, that they might come and anoint Him. Very early in the morning, on the first day of the week, they came to the tomb when the sun had risen. ... Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He is risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid Him" (Mark 16:1-2, 6; see also Luke 24:1; John 20:1). And the Lord's church was established on the day of Pentecost, which always falls on the first day of the week (Acts 2:1ff). Hence, the first day of the week became known as "the Lord's Day." "I was in the Spirit on the Lord's Day, and I heard behind me a loud voice, as of a trumpet" (Revelation 1:10).

Thank you for sharing that. According to the context, that meeting in Acts 20 was a "Saturday night" meeting. In Scripture, a day begins and ends at evening (Genesis 1). Thus, the Sabbath was celebrated from evening to evening (Leviticus 23). Therefore, the disciples there in Acts 20 had already been together worshiping God on His holy seventh day Sabbath. Paul knowing he was going to be traveling on the next day, the first day of the week, as his custom was, he went long in preaching until midnight. Additionally, the disciples broke bread and were in the temple daily. Therefore, is every day the Sabbath? Obviously not because God created six working days and sanctified and rested on the seventh one. As far as that collection of funds on the first day of the week in 1 Corinthians 16. That was a one time donation in order to help the poor Christians in Jerusalem. When read in context, laying by him in store was people putting something aside at home, not taking up an offering in a "church service," and thus, instituting a new Sabbath day. Due to the urgency of the crisis in Jerusalem, Paul advised people to set something aside in advance so when he arrived, he and others could grab their donations and immediately leave rather than arrive then wait around for everyone to collect their donations.

@@Project144K The Sabbath Law is not changed from Saturday to Sunday - The tradition of the Christian church is to meet together on Sunday, the first day of the week. Some interpret this day of meeting as the day in which the Sabbath, the seventh day of the week, was changed to be fulfilled on the first day of the week (hence the term, Christian Sabbath). In support of this view, three Scripture references are given to show that Sunday is now the Sabbath day for Christians (Acts 20:7, 1 Corinthians 16:2, Revelation 1:10). However, within the context of these passages, there is no reference to the Sabbath nor is there any element of the Sabbath law. It is certainly possible to construe from these passages that indeed the New Testament church carries on the tradition of gathering together for fellowship, breaking of bread, teaching, and worship, However, it is not possible to interpret from these passages that the New Testament church gathers on Sunday to fulfill the Sabbath law. Any interpretation of this as being a Sabbath for the New Testament church requires a large amount of eisegesis. Scripture is absent of any direction or commandment is given by God that advocates the changing of the Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday. If indeed we are to fulfill the Sabbath law of the Decalogue today, as some would suggest, it takes a lot of gall and outright rebellion to change what God called holy, the seventh day, to the first day of the week without having distinct direction from God. After all, what were the Apostles thinking to blatantly omit any instructions of the Sabbath observance? Unless, of course, they believed the Mosaic Covenant and the Sabbath obvservance to be obsolete.

I believe that knowing only English as a language is a big detriment to many. Let me share the days of the week with one of the oldest languages in the modern world: Portuguese. Domingo - Sunday Segunda-feira - Monday Terça-feira - Tuesday Quarta-feira - Wednesday Quinta-feira - Thursday Sexta-feira - Friday Sábado - Saturday Saturday is the day of the Sabbath, the bible says so, stop the Western shenanigans and "translations". There are no such thing as pure translations, they will always morph the original meaning of the word. I'm sure it is OK if it is celebrated on Sunday due the new covenant with Lord Jesus if you want to see it that way. Look fellas, just take a day's rest, prayer, contemplation and reflection, that's all is being asked of us. We do such a good job to overcomplicate things.

If your practice is to keep Sunday instead of the 7th Day Sabbath, you are sinning by breaking the 4th Commandment. 1 John 3:4 Everyone who practices sin also practices lawlessness; and sin is lawlessness. Matthew 7:21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. 22 Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.’" That is what scripture says.

Seven major days of celebration in Jewish calendar. Seven days of nidah… and on and on.

The Sabbath day can’t be exactly the same for everyone. If the entire world were Christians and everyone took off the exact same day imagine the amount of people who would pass away because ERs would be closed, EMS would not be available, hospitals themselves would be shut down. The fact that it is a Covenant with God shows that it is God and not a day that is locked in place. For one person it can be Friday evening to Saturday evening. For another it can be Sunday, for another it can be a Wednesday. All that matters is the day is a day of rest and centered around worshipping God.

This is inaccurate. The Sabbath day could not be a different day for everyone. Ask yourself what the punishment was for working on the Sabbath day was. Nehemiah 13:15-18. Concerning ER and EMS workers, we're allowed to do good works on the Sabbath. Matthew 12:11-12. This implies that important work is permissible on the Sabbath

Thank you for the advice on spacing and paragraphs. I have spent many years on the subject and bit by bit it began to fall into place. I am Catholic, and when I married 23 years ago, my wife was Evangelical, but 18 years ago she became a Seventh day Adventist - so I felt that I had to research the issue. I hope you have seen both parts of my comments. About 4 years ago I began writing things down and put them together from many aspects of scripture - beginning with the first 2 chapters of Genesis - the account creation. This is after all a First-Day - Seventh-Day issue. I have heard many presentations on both sides, and I wanted to make sense of it although I was not confused by it - I just wanted a systematic approach. I spent three years alone on Genesis 1 & 2 - begin at the beginning I thought, and so I looked at how on day-one of creation God said "Let there be light" but then - like many others I began to question what this light was before the sun and moon and stars were created - the light couldn't be from them - so what was it. Then I looked into the Hebrew text - I don't know Hebrew - but looked up translations and was amazed that in the Hebrew the word for light on day-one of creation is different from the Hebrew word for light on the fourth day - when the sun and moon were created. Since the Hebrew said, "Let (uncreated) light be!" I began to realise that God was declaring "Let Me Who Am The Light Shine Forth." God wasn't creating light but declaring light - and God Declaring means The Word and I began to see that this is what John was writing about in his Gospel. So Day-One was already a day where God the Father announced the Light of Christ. The Uncreated Light. Day-One is not the day of some pagan God - for paganism never existed - however - I then decided to find out what St. Augustine said about creation and found out that he studied the same issue. St Augustine went to the Book of Job and saw that God Himself speaking to Job saying, "Where were you when I created the sun and moon and stars - for the angles were full of joy at their creation." Augustine realised that the angles must have existed before the sun and moon and stars because the angles were in joy. Augustine figured that they must have been created on that first day - since it is their job to reflect the Light of God - hence the name Lucifer. At the moment of their creation they have to choose God or reject Him. Then the Ten Commandments speak for themselves - but in Deuteronomy Moses tells us that the Ten Commandments are more than rest and creation but Exodus. It's just about making connections and listening to many theologians about many topics - such as when Jesus takes up the mountain three deciples like Moses took up Aaron and his two sons and how Jesus is the New Moses and that the conversation Jesus had with Moses and Elijah - they were talking about Christ's soon to come EXODUS - his death and resurrection. There are many more connections - I am still putting it together. On KZbin comments, I have made a Part 1 and a Part 2 comment to help cover this huge issue. God bless you and thank you for your interest.

@marvinberry295 0 seconds ago When did Jesus say, I want you all to STOP keeping the 7th Day Sabbath, which is the 4th Commandment, and make Sunday your new Sabbath??? Did Jesus say it, or did the Roman Catholic Church say it??? Everything that you have just said, it what the Roman Catholic Church told you, but Jesus Himself NEVER TOLD YOU THIS! God said, REMEMBER THE SABBATH, but the Roman Catholic Church is telling you to FORGET THE SABBATH. The Roman Cathlic Church said Sabbath is on a Sunday, but God said the Sabbath is from Friday Sundown, to Saturday Sundown. So you tell me who is telling us the truth, the Roman Catholic Church or God?
@chrismason847611 ай бұрын
@marvinberry295 *** 1A1 The Old Testament gives us TWO lists of the Ten Commandments - one in the Book of Exodus and another list in the Book of Deuteronomy.

We're witnessing firsthand how the transition from Saturday to Sunday is affecting not only our spiritual life but even our physical health. The Sabbath, given to us for rest and recreation in Him (Bible & nature), holds even greater significance in light of the complexities brought about by sin. Jesus' resurrection on Sunday underscores His observance of the Sabbath, affirming the unchanging nature of the 10 commandments therefore His sacrifice on the cross was essential for our salvation. If the law would have been changed, it wouldn’t be necessary for Jesus’ sacrifice but because His law is unchangeable a sacrifice was provided for us so we can be called children of the King

@ArianeGonzales1 ***1.2 The Old Testament gives us TWO lists of the Ten Commandments - one in the Book of Exodus and another list in the Book of Deuteronomy. That is why Hebrews tells us that there is still a Sabbath day for Christians to keep but that it is On Another Day - that is what Hebrews tells us - the Sabbath is to be kept but kept on Another Day - its right there in Hebrews. What I don't understand about people who are strict about keeping the Sabbath is that they are in the same way not keeping the other laws. The Old Testament had laws to not eat certain foods, circumision, men had to grow out their beards, women had to dress in a certain way, etc.

There's a difference between the Law of God and the Law of Moses- the latter was formed to consecrate the Jewish people apart from others, while God kept Sabbath since the first seventh day, not as a law with the purpose of separating the Jewish people with their customs.

Wouldn't three days after Jesus died be Monday? Died on Friday 3pm, Saturday at 3pm represents the first 24 hours after death, Sunday at 3pm represents 48 hours after death, and Monday at 3pm would be 72 hours after death or rather 3 days after death? The Shabbat is the "day of rest" in Hebrew. The mankind can rest from the resurrection of Jesus Christ, in the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Only then, could man understand that he was freed from sin, because of Christ's sacrifice. Only in that moment the man (I mean the Jewish believer in the Messiah or the Gentile believer in the Messiah) could understand what day was the definitive Shabbat on the earth. Waiting for the everlasting Shabbat in Heaven. Just observe the progressive meaning that God indicates to man: Exodus 20 "Remember that you are to sanctify the day of the Sabbath. (...) For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and the sea, and all the things that are in them, and so he rested on the seventh day. For this reason, the Lord has blessed the day of the Sabbath and sanctified it." Deuteronomy 5 "Observe the day of the Sabbath, so that you may sanctify it, just as the Lord your God has instructed you. (...) Remember that you also were servants in Egypt, and the Lord your God led you away from that place with a strong hand and an outstretched arm. Because of this, he has instructed you so that you would observe the Sabbath day." (freedom from Egypt) New Testament: "And the Word became flesh". (John chapter 1) The Word of God is Jesus Christ, the Messiah. He shows you the Shabbat. He shows you your rest and your freedom when He rises from the dead. Now, you can truly rest. He makes the Shabbat. He is the Shabbat. _"Remember that you are to sanctify the day of the Sabbath"_ In Hebrew: "The Day of the Rest"
@lishmahlishmah3 жыл бұрын
If you want one more evidence that the word "shabbat" means "rest" in Hebrew, the Bible gives you the evidence: KJV Leviticus 16:29-31 "And this shall be a statute for ever unto you: that *in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month* , ye shall afflict your souls, and do no work at all, whether it be one of your own country, or a stranger that sojourneth among you: For on that day shall the priest make an atonement for you, to cleanse you, that ye may be clean from all your sins before the Lord. *It shall be a sabbath of rest unto you* , and ye shall afflict your souls, by a statute for ever." "A shabbat of rest": a much better translation (from Hebrew text) would be "a rest of rest", that's to say "an absolute rest". You can easily understand that "the 7th month on the 10th day of the month"... can't always be a Saturday. So, do you think God is changing the Shabbat day, even in the First Testament? Even in the Torah? Moreover, do you think that on Shabbat-Saturday you should "afflict your souls, by a statute for ever" ? Really? I don't think so. The Bible tells us that God, - Father, Son and Holy Spirit - is guiding man, step by step, to understand the true meaning of Shabbat. The Messiah, the Word made Flesh, the Torah made Flesh, reveals to believers the ultimate meaning. Together with the new day for Messianic Age (on the earth) : after the first Shabbat only for Jewish People, the Messianic Shabbat for all People. This is *the 8th Day* in Jewish teaching. Before the everlasting Shabbat Day of the Kingdom of God.

*Some more evidence?* Leviticus 25:1-10 King James Version "And the Lord spake unto Moses in mount Sinai, saying, Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye come into the land which I give you, then *shall the land keep a sabbath unto the Lord.* Six years thou shalt sow thy field, and six years thou shalt prune thy vineyard, and gather in the fruit thereof; But in *the seventh year shall be a sabbath of rest unto the land, a sabbath for the Lord:* thou shalt neither sow thy field, nor prune thy vineyard. That which groweth of its own accord of thy harvest thou shalt not reap, neither gather the grapes of thy vine undressed: for it is *a year of rest unto the land.* And *the sabbath of the land* shall be meat for you; for thee, and for thy servant, and for thy maid, and for thy hired servant, and for thy stranger that sojourneth with thee. And for thy cattle, and for the beast that are in thy land, shall all the increase thereof be meat. *And thou shalt number seven sabbaths of years unto thee,* seven times seven years; and the space of the *seven sabbaths of years* shall be unto thee forty and nine years. Then shalt thou cause the trumpet of the jubile to sound on the tenth day of the seventh month, in the day of atonement shall ye make the trumpet sound throughout all your land. And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a jubile unto you; and ye shall return every man unto his possession, and ye shall return every man unto his family." Now, again, "the 7th month, the 1st day of the month" can't always be a Saturday... So, why does the Lord call "Sabbath" this day... if it is NOT the 7th day of the week??? Uhm... Strange, isn't it? @Marriage4life The truth is that God also set aside other days as "holy." "On exactly the tenth day of this seventh month is the day of atonement; it shall be a holy convocation for you" (Leviticus 2:27). It is obvious that the "tenth day" of the month is not a Sabbath. The fact is that there are various things in the Old Testament that were holy, but which were confined to the Old Testament period, and were not included in New Testament practices. "These are the appointed times of the LORD which you shall proclaim as holy convocations, to present offerings by fire to the LORD -- burnt offerings and grain offerings, sacrifices and drink offerings, each day's matter on its own day" (Leviticus 23:37). We would agree that burnt offerings are not a part of the New Covenant, even though God said they were "holy."

@Marriage4life This question comes to mind. If the church met on Saturday, then why would Paul instruct them to come the next day for the collection? These early Christians did not have the luxury of having Sunday off as most of us do. Many were slaves, and would rise before dawn to meet with fellow Christians before going to their delegated tasks. It would make no sense for them to be commanded to meet the second time just to make their contribution. Since this is a clear command, I have asked members of the Seventh Day Adventist Church if they came together on Sundays for this purpose. None that I have asked have admitted they did so. If this is a command, why do they ignore it?
@kac0404 Жыл бұрын
@Marriage4life The Sabbath is not a law instituted at creation but under the Mosaic Covenant. Some say that the Sabbath is a command of God given in Genesis. To interpret Genesis 2:1-3 as a law given to humanity is in error. Though sin abounded, God gave no law until Moses. Paul states in Romans 5:13-14 that there was no law given from the time of Adam until the time of Moses. Furthermore, from Adam to Moses, there is no record in Scriptures of anyone keeping the Sabbath (especially during the period of Egyptian slavery captivity). In Genesis 2, it is called the seventh day and not the Sabbath. It is a description of what God did, not what God requires of man. To interpret Genesis 2:1-3 as a law also requires to create light on Sundays and animals on Friday. From the plain reading of the text, there is no reason to conclude that God intends to view every seventh day to be holy. Rather, it is quite possible to interpret that God declares that particular day, the actual seventh day, as holy. Interpretations which add (such as saying that God rested on the seventh day to establish the Sabbath) an underlying reason why God declares the day holy, is adding to the text.

Foolish of followers of Christ to want to continue worshipping on Saturdays when they have no idea why/what Sabbath was for.

A change in the sacred day of the week occurred between the Old Testament and the New Testament. Throughout the New Testament a pattern emerges of congregational assemblies occurring on “the first day of the week.” For example, we discover in Acts 20:7 that “on the first day of the week” the church in Troas “gathered together to break bread.” Based on this passage, it is apparent that the activity of “breaking bread” or observing the Lord’s Supper was associated with an assembly that took place on the first day of the week. Additionally, we read Paul’s instructions to the Corinthian congregation regarding when they should set aside their funds for “the collection for the saints.” He stated that “on the first day of every week, each of you is to put something aside and store it up” (1 Corinthians 16:2). Paul instructed the Corinthian Christians to conduct their financial collections when they assembled as a congregation so that “there will be no collecting when I come.” And Paul knew based on the practice of the early church that the congregational assemble occurred “on the first day of the every week.”
