After learning to ride on a Yamaha RX 100 & RXZ I bought a CI Engine bullet in 2003 or 4 I liked it despite its oil leaks, ignition point missing and tappet sounds. Restored it and had it till 2011 when I banged my head in Classic 500. I liked it even more coz it has an electric starter, FI, Disc Brake. I do not remember a time when I had rode any other bike. It was a time when one of my dear friends had booked his Classic 500 and wait was never ending so he took my bike with him because he was growing impatient and I was left without bike. Then I took my younger brother's Karizma for the first time in 4-5 years of ownership as my brother was abroad for studies. THEN I realized what a piece of crap I was riding through out called bullet. It vibrates like a tractor. On the other hand I was stunned by the smoothness of Karizma. Till date I haven't asked my Classic 500 back.

I bought a Royal Enfield in the U.S. because I first learned to ride in India. Brings back memories every time I start up and hear the thump. However, I will say that it's a terrible, terrible choice for touring on American highways. Can't keep up with traffic and the vibrations are far too intense.

RE isn't bullshit. I myself have a KTM Duke 390 with all specs mentioned in your comment but i've also ridden the bullet 350 and it doesn't shout performance but it has its own charm. I personally wouldn't buy a bullet 350 but it doesn't mean it's bullshit. its just about priorities. btw now a days the 2017 RE Continental GT has ABS, fuel injection and tubeless tyres.

Thank You for posting the video. I have a 2014 Royal Enfield Bullet. I fell out of Love with it last autumn. The oil filter housing leaked and yet another starter solenoid became sticky. Do you know what having watched your video and heard that single cylinder thump again, i've decided to keep it and fix it once the English winter goes and the salt is off the road. As mentioned in the video itself, you have to be a mechanic if you want to own a RE or marry a mechanic before buying a RE. And he has mentioned that we have to treat it like a family member. Just would like to mention here that people are different and machines are different. Even if we have a physically challenged or sick family member still we take care of them but I think that doesn't holds good for machines. People need to be taken care of and machines need to perform. While building any machine, the creator / designer of it would always wish to design a machine which will perform to its expectations, be reliable, durable and needs less maintenance. IN RE's case any of these doesn't apply. In today's age also, RE still producing stone age technology products and on top of that all RE bikes are not just slightly but highly overpriced for the kind of performance, quality, reliability and fit and finish they offer to customers. Per me, for the kind of overall quality RE bikes offer, I would say the correct price should be somewhere around 65 to 70K on-road. I have seen so many of my friends fond of RE bikes. Even me after telling, not to buy, they fall to it based on the legendary name it carries and just after few months they start telling about the problems they start facing with their RE. To sum it up, RE bikes are a highly overpriced sub-standard products.

RE is one of the stupidest bike on the planet. It is not just equipped with old tech but it also refuses to evolve. I am at least hopeful now to see that they have released Himalayan. Still none of us, even a RE rider could deny that fact that it is indeed a low tech bike. The only reason it sells in India because of the status symbol it holds but nevertheless almost every 5th guy is trying to buy it now. RE would fall the day other manufacturers decided to make better bike, and if not better then at least up to date.

The weight and everything they say is pure bullshit. You can definitely find it difficult compared to a lighter bike when you initially ride it but you will get used to it sooner than you think and after that it will never be an issue. All bikes are for everyone short or tall, fat or lean. My old mechanic when I was in chennai was hardly 5 feet tall, 50 years old probably weighed 50-60 kgs and that man has been riding a CI 350 Bullet from 1980s till date and probably will till he dies. So go ahead and get what your heart wants and stop listening to the haters.

The charm of an enfield simply cannot be explained, it has to be experienced. As rightly said although it’s still being manufactured it is still a classic British design and has its own quirks.
