For me, it was all about body language - the Raiders coaches and players seemed to be saying "if you don't call a time-out then we won't go for the 1st down" - after the game, Bisaccia said he looked across the field and thought the Chargers were on the same page. If the Raiders have no chance of losing then they don't need the 1st down, probably try the 60yd (or how ever long it was) FG, probably miss, and both teams go through. By calling the time-out the scenario became: "if we don't get the 1st down then we could actually lose and not make the playoffs", and it changed the Raiders mind-set to "well, if you're going to be like that, then we're going to knock you out". As I said - no evidence that it would go that way - that was just the 90% feeling I got from watching players and sideline... and obviously the commentators felt the same way.

@@Tsukiko.97 bro I’m pretty sure you’re talking about a video of him talking to the long snapper (who he’s known for a long time) that doesn’t prove the raiders were about to run out the entire clock if they didn’t call timeout

I think it is in part due to the borderline insane 4th down decision Staley made earlier in the game. This was people’s confirmation bias working in response to their disapproval of that decision, as well as the fact that the average viewer doesn’t pay attention to formations unless the commentators point it out

Stanley made the correct call. Stop the clock, if they make the FG, get a chance to get the ball back.

@@jrsands Haha - ignorant, really? Saying the Raiders - Steelers rivalry is just about the immaculate deception is beyond ignorant. If it weren't for that Steelers team in the 70's then Madden could have won 5 Superbowls, and the Raiders could have 7 Lombardis, not just 3. The Raiders would have ruled the NFL until Brady came along, instead we've had to listen to everyone praise Bradshaw and the steel curtain. How many Superbowls have the Chargers cost the Raiders over the years? Any Raiders fan should have 3 main teams that they hate - the Chiefs, the Broncos, and the Steelers. The Chargers are largely irrelevant - it's nice to beat them, but really, they just don't matter that much - they don't even have more fans than the Raiders in their own city!

Some fr garbage wtf logic goin on there lol… perhaps everyone AGREED with the announcers and that’s why they all agreed with them…lol wth I mean those guys literally spent the entire quarter and most of the game from what I could tell talking about timeouts and how this unique situation might pan out lol. At multiple points they made it clear that they were only ever discussing the Raiders, because there’s no scenario and no alternate universe in which it makes any sense for the chargers to raise the gd stakes - The douchebag made it seem like he was trying to outmanage a guy who obviously wasn’t trying to outright win the game - if the guys made a play on a run, so be it but he wasn’t trying to run some fancy play or throw the ball to win, so bet your ass as soon as that timeout was over he was going to win the game at that point duh. Prob like “ well hell now I gotta send you home just because you’re stupid”

You have to see it in the context of the moment. The Raiders were content to let the clock run out. LA gave them a reset by calling the timeout.

before time out raiders were out of shot gun after time out raiders go under center i think the more logical call for the chargers was to let the play happen and trust your play makers like they do on offence i still think the time out was bad because my raiders then get more motivated and get to cherry pick a couple of plays that dc then can check in and out of so ya i think chargers time out was a mistake
