My favourite Peppers record. Also, Navarro’s live performances with the band were amazing. He had such an incredible groove, he gave the songs a swagger and a slightly harder edge and it really worked.

For me, it is my favourite Chili Peppers album. I have always appreciated them for trying new genres outside the usual "white boy funk rap" that dominated their early 80's sound, but this album took it to a whole new level. It feels raw, dark and very melancholic, pretty much influenced by Dave Navarro, whom I would wager is his most creative work (along with the Deconstruction album perhaps?) I used to bounce between BSSM and OHM as my favourite, but I can firmly say that OHM takes that spot. Cheers for covering it fellas 👍

Awesome! Really happy to hear it. Agree with a lot of what you said. It is truly an under appreciated album. How do you feel about their work after this album?
@LegoBuilderStudios Жыл бұрын
@scratchatrack I like their work after OHM quite a lot! It is hard to pinpoint, but By The Way may be the first song I really liked by them when I was younger. I know they get slack for becoming a "pop-rock" band, but I have to give them props for still being a major band on the touring circuit with a longlasting legacy and the ability to stay relevant in today's elastic music culture. What do you guys think of their later work?

I haven't listened to this album since the 90s. I remember actually liking it pretty well at the time. I'm not really a RHCP superfan, but "My Friends" is probably my favorite track they've written. I'll have to listen again and see how it holds up today.

Underrated. I’m a big fan and John Frusciante is my absolute favorite guitarist. But this album is such a gem, there’s nothing else like it in their discography. Psychedelic hard rock with so many great songs on it. And thanks for the separating the video into chapters! I know it’s extra work but it is appreciated.

Hahaha, yeah, it takes extra time but since we put the songs in there now it is actually much easier.

I really need to check this album out again. BSSM is one of my all time favorite albums and I'm huge Jane's Addiction fan. My expectations were ridiculously high for this album. I don't think anything could have lived up to It,lol.

Personally....I think its the 2nd best Chilis Album overall and its really a close 2nd to BSSM. I absolutely think Dave belongs in Janes and Frusciante belongs with the Chili's but....this album is great and has some killer B sides as well. Ive seen the Chilis on every tour since 88 and the tour they did with Dave was in the top 2 as well. It was easily the most powerul they have ever sounded. Typically the people who discount this album are the over Zealous Frusciante purests. This album got good reviews at its release and the show was packed all 3 times I saw them on the OHM tour...would have been cool to get at least one more album with Dave on guitar just to see where they would have gone but at the end of the day....everyone is back where they need to be....BUT....OHM is still a great record. I could do without Walkabout, Aeroplane and Tearjerker...(replace them with Strectch and Lets Make Evil).

Yeah, some amazing work on this album. The whole band seems to pretend it doesn't exist now and they don't play anything from it.

I think it's because of Dave he is a legend of a guitarist though but fans didn't like the change, I thought the album was great not as good as later stuff but it wasn't bad per say.

This was the first time I understood musical chemistry. I figured they're a great band, he's a great guitar player, Jane's and the peppers were fairly similar(they both played bits of funk,punk, rock, psychedelic). I figured it would be a perfect fit. It wasn't, lol.I also realized how much John contributed after this album.

25 years after first seeing Aeroplane (first video I ever saw of the Peppers) on MTV I gave this album a few listens. Just awesome and weird. It is definetly their grunge album. Got a wtf reaction too when first hearing the middle part of One Big Mob. Had to tune it down, because I was afraid my neighbors would assume that a woman gets brutally murdered lol. But beside that I really like that part, because it sounds much like Type O Negative. The slow build up is great and I think it should've had a better payoff like a cool guitar solo instead returning to the I am you are me part.

This is the apogee of the Reh Hot rhythm section, Flea and Chad are on fire on this record, and everything will be much flatter after that. I also find that Kiedis expresses his vocal abilities the most. Navarro is a far more varied and accomplished guitarist than Frusciante (whom I adore, by the way). The only fault I have with this album is that it's a bit over-produced (too many layers of guitars), whereas BSSM was very raw.

It's just a different vibe. BSSM is a fun psychedelic trip. One Hot Minute is a really dark trip. Two sides of the same drug. People are not that comfortable listening to the latter, demands more from the listener and maybe a certain mood. Great album still.
@scratchatrack3 ай бұрын
Yeah, I like the way you put that. Two sides of the same drug. I guess I've always gravitated to the dark side:)

It has all the pros and cons that usually come with a mega successful band’s Drug Album, which are usually frustratingly inconsistently brilliant and awful at once
@ndesdsadfd9 күн бұрын
Cause people are generally dumb lol. Frankly I consider One Hot Minute not only a great album, but probably the last truly good album they ever did. I still remember the disappointment the day I put Californication into my stereo. RHCP for me died in 1996. The band that came back in '99 with Frusciante (which I love btw) back in was a completely different thing. An arena pop band.
