I don't know if its just a bias or preference thing but for me the steam version of the game feels smoother and is graphically better especially on minimum settings, and yes I play on minimum as I feel the game has too much visual effects with them any higher. And one thing is that goal post transparency is almost a must setting but I don't think that was mentioned specifically.

Hi great video, you have clean and clear editing, really easy to watch. Just something to look out for depending on the engine/game code, input and game logic can be processed many times in a single frame, the output is simply what gets displayed (I don't know the answer to this for Rocket League). To make an example of this, lets just say you press jump and had an instant jump, puff of dust, then almost immediately after you're 5 metres in the air. If the CPU is limiting the engine, you will see the jump happen, puff of dust then be in the air. IF the CPU is very fast and the GPU very slow, you won't see the puff of dust, you'll just be in the air. The higher framerate lets the GPU try to approach the limit of the CPU so the result isn't so much less input latency (the amount of time input takes to be processed by the game) and more input feedback (less 'perceived' input latency). When frames are high you are better able to see and react to how your inputs effect the game. I believe Rocket League is still Unreal Engine 3 and is a physics based game (all movements are determined by physics) I cannot remember if UE3 decouples physics calculations from framerate, but when Rocket League is finally upgraded to UE5 it'll definitely, definitely be separate from the framerate. Just a side note, higher framerate also means that if you play on a monitor with a 60hz refresh rate, you'll see the frame closest to when the monitor is able to display the next frame, the lower the framerate, the older the frame that will be displayed. And another side note, when playing on servers, the server is what dictates the position of the player, the player only requests the server moves the player, the server then allows then executes it (this is not always 100% correct, but it's typically the reason to have dedicated servers) Feel free just message me if you need any clarification, or want more details on this stuff.

Physics are on a separate 120 tick refresh. I believe they are using bullet physics rather than UE3's built in physics.

2:58 high quality shaders is actually pretty heavy, a low to mid range gpu like a 1060 or an rx580 will suffer quite a bit also uncapping fps makes the frame times oscilate too much, capping it at a very high fps that your gpu will definitely be able to handle is better than uncapping it and letting the fps float between for example 190 and 230 depending on what's on the screen

i personally leave it at minimum because it looks good enough and i don't want to wear my gpu needlessly, for example forza horizon 5 is a very pretty game and i play it with my gpu nearing 100% usage, i don't really need that playing rocket league, my gpu can sit comfortably at like 30% usage with the game rrunnig at 144fps edit except texture quality, it's "free" quality, it only uses more vram doesn't really impact the performance

But this is specific to Unreal Engine that couples logic, network and frame scheduling in the main loop. One could process inputs as fast as it can and sync the tasks in a different way.

On my PC, the game works at max settings (when I unlock the fps limiter) over 360 fps in 1080p... but I have it locked at 60 because of the monitor and the system doesn't draw electricity unnecessarily and doesn't heat up - then it's noisier. So that's not the problem - the problem is the lighting. Especially the neon maps and some maps at night which I don't really like because of all the scurrying around... I'd be happy to turn that off...

U didn't explain something: u rather be on the higher capped framerate than uncapped, bcs on uccaped ur computer is using max perfomance to have the higher refresh rate possible but inputs are coming slower bcs of that

I dont understand why the input lag would feel better though with lower settings. Wouldn't what determines how fast you think the input lag is just be the time between when you press said button and when the screen refreshes and displays the change. I understand that by lowering the settings theoretically the gpu is rendering that change faster but if it cant display that change faster to the screen(capped by monitor refresh rate) then how would it feel any faster? its like the refresh rate is 120hz and even if the gpu is rendering changes at 240hz it can still only output the changes at the same rate of 120hz which would feel the same as if the game was running with higher settings at only 120fps. Im confused haha. The only other thought I can offer is if it is a higher render rate than the chance to miss a frame changing due to an input would be reduced so every few frames normally there wouldnt be a change on higher settings because if it just refreshed it would miss the updated info change from the user. I think this is the real reason in depth. Basically the more frames rendered on the gpu the more accurate the representation of the input you have made as it will be a more recent version(for example 3 gpu frames per every 1 refresh cycle the refresh cycle would take the most recent iteration which is why it feels more responsive as oppose to if it was higher settings taking the frame from 1/120th second ago but the input was also 1/120th second ago so it feels like it is using old data so to say. The lower the settings the screen is taking data from lets say an the most recent input from 1/360th of a second ago instead of 1/120th of a second ago so it is in actuality more responsive
@Variarte_
@Variarte_ Жыл бұрын
You got it! Because the GPU must wait for the CPU to pass it data, and the GPU takes time to render a frame, you ideally want to minimise the GPU time so the most recent representation of the game is outputted to the display giving the player a better 'feeling' of the game registering input. It's not that the game is processing the input (and result of said input slowly) it's that the visual representation of it is slow.
