Merc is actually pretty good- I had a losing streak with octane, joked around and actually got diamond by wining a 50/50

The mercs size makes it oddly good for challenging other players control of the ball and just generally screwing the other team(and sometimes your team) up

Yes the biggest downside I notice when using the merc is the effect it has on my teammates' ability to take me seriously. In most cases it seems like people expect merc players to be garbage and will give up much sooner at the slightest hint of a misplay.

Yea that’s something I noticed when using the Battle Bus & Ford Bronco, is I kept just brute-forcing my way through enemies when I had the ball

Merc underrated car. I used it to climb to GC. Fun fact: Merc is the tallest car in rocket league that makes it the best for bounce dribbles. I also like it for control when I am in the air trying to ceiling shot or air dribble

Would be nice to have you interview some high level players that main non-meta cars. Palerider for example is a Merc main, and Calix mained the Jäger back when he was a pro. Would love some insight into why some people prefer a non-meta car at the SSL level.

i like to use the merc (or the nomad recently) whenever i'm super braindead in casual and just want to have some fun without having to concentrate too much, i feel like the bulky hitbox is amazing for that

I actually preferred when cars had their own hit boxes it made cars have their own playstyle imo and it typically fit the vehicle properly as some cars hit boxes are longer or shorter than the car visuals

Nice video! I think it's funny how people take the car meta way too seriously in RL, like I'll be asked by new players which is the 'best car'. I've pretty much always just vibed with whatever car I felt like and have been flamed for doing so in game as a GC player.

Agree wholeheartedly. It's also alot more fun to experiment with unique setups and stand out from other players. I think alot of it stems from social pressure, as I also get alot of side-comments about my car choices.

I actually love the merc. I like the octane, I like the fennec, I like a lot of different cars. But I'm particularly really into vans and trucks. So I love using the merc and harbinger. Though if I am playing a little more serious, I'll usually use the breakout, octane or fennec.

Being bigger also has disadvantages. Mainly, you're more likely to bump a teammate, being bumped, and being demo'ed. Also, objectively speaking, the pinch strength depends on the length of the car from the pivot point to the striking point. I'm almost sure the merc is not the best option, maybe not even top 2 (out of 6). Having said this, I think the size advantage could outweigh the disadvantages. From a statistical point of view, the odds of doing things were you benefit from the size (challenging and blocking) are greater than occurrences were you don't (being chased for a demo). All in all, I think it comes down to getting used to a car that you like. Octane, Fennec, and Dominus are the only cars that get esports skins and also get more exclusive skins. So they are a good choices to get used to.

The merc used to have its own hitbox before they changed it to octane in the beginning.

When I played classic RL for the first time on mi girl's PC, me and her, choose together the Merc, and when it came in Sideswipe shop I taked it immediatly. For having it I spended a lot of money (about 3200 SP, I've taken the Crimson one in the shop) and it was worth it. Since you're British, is my English good (my level is between B1 and B2)?

Earlier I used merc every now and then, but now I use it pretty much always The car has some of the greatest 50/50s and some of the most powerful shots Besides, to me this car feels better than Octane in the air lmfao. Feels so much more nimble At the same time, lack in length of hitbox is significant. Some of the shots are hard to reach, ESPECIALLY when you come from Breakout and Dominus Fucking love the car

So 'META' often in gaming is short for 'Most effective tactic available'. To call something in a game 'meta' is to imply that it's the best for performance. I.e. the best weapon etc. So to call something 'non-meta' is to say that it isn't considered the best choice.
