I think labels/titles are very important.. i am not something to be owned.. but i want to belong.. it gives me comfort that everyone will know who i am with..

By getting rid of conventional labels, I've actually been able to make people who would be considered by some "lovers", "partners", etc feel more comfortable about the nature of our relationship. Labels made people feel unspecial or like there were rules to follow, when the reality is I just want someone to be honest with me and allow me to love them; to not be scared of the word love when it comes to people - it can be sexual, romantic, platonic, or any combination of those things, it's still love and it's still valid, it's vulnerable, and it's good. By letting go of this idea that I have to have a relationship label I've actually fostered deeper more meaningful relationships by accepting those relationships for what they are and not trying to squeeze a person into a definition.

I just recently started seeing someone and we talked about this in depth. We both felt like the label MY girlfriend or MY husband was possession, we’re very committed and honest with each other, there is not pressure to live up to a title. We have the freedom to grow separately but together and that is love in my opinion ❤️

I’m a hoarder 🙋🏼♀️ And that label is okay bc I’m learning to let go of my things!

Agree! People just like to label people and categorise them to fit certain social norms, uncritically! you're awesome guys :)

This is from a movie call Ruby Sparks (2012): HARRY: Susie left once. CALVIN: When? HARRY: While ago. Before we were engaged. CALVIN: Why didn’t you tell me? HARRY: You had a lot going on. And she came back. But I still think about it. I could lose her any moment. CALVIN: You’re married, you’ve got a kid. She’d never leave. HARRY: Nothing’s permanent. It’s dangerous to love someone. This gives me the idea that even in marriage, I should refresh myself daily. Fall in love again and again to my wife. Remind myself why that day I knelt down to my wife proposing to her. Don't take her for granted. In my opinion, this has nothing to do with marriage, is more on the attitude from both individual towards a relationship.

I personally like the term "lover" because you are in love(feelings) or are choosing love(actions). Higher standard then boyfriend/girlfriend. But it implies sex, and that makes me uncomfortable.
@sleepysusie6 жыл бұрын
Why not just drop the 'r' and call them your love? It's a tad romantic for me but it sounds less sexual than lover.

It's very interesting how differently people view the same lable. Like I would not have thought lover was just sex. I do like the term love, even if it is romantic :)

I just got engaged on 11/11/18! Y’all are scaring me! LOL Seriously, I’ve learned that if you are a good person married to another good person, you can either work your problems out with that person, or you’ll have the same problems to work out with the next person. Might as well stay with the one you love, iron out your issues, grow together, and not destroy what you’ve built.

Lately I've had people refer to my partner (that's how I refer to him at the moment) as my husband. At first it sounded strange, not so much anymore, but I never explain that we're not married. I'm 32 and we've been together for 9 years, calling him my boyfriend just doesn't seem right.

Labels are what others put on you for their convenience and comfort. What you call things for yours are simply names. And Joshua's hair game is STRONG. I used to have a quiff like that before baldness robbed me of it! (Sob!)

I’d disagree with you about the marriage license point brought up. George and Martha would have been married according to the “government “ as the church and the government were pretty much the same. They would have been British citizens and as such the head of their government was the King of England. The King is also head of the Anglican Church, the official state religion. So when you are married within the church, they first post the banns, allowing others in the community to bring up any objections (civil, or canonical) to the union, and then after the marriage takes place it is recorded by the church. The record was considered legal. When the US broke away, we had no national religion and so states and local municipalities were then responsible for recording marriages (aka the marriage license). So in colonial America marriage was not only religious but also a legal status.

Marriage is actually a very useful legal contract. Mostly it benefits the women in the relationship.

Stumbled upon this video looking for something else but as I kept listening, I realized how contradictory your statements were. Talking about how labels are important yet you start ranting about how marriage contracts aren’t important? Sorry but you have the wrong understanding about what it means to be married because you have no understanding about the foundation of marriage.
