Why do so many people like Scooby-Doo?

Scooby-Doo is basically what Spongebob and Mickey Mouse is ,franchises that everyone knows or heard of, that's been around for decades or centuries. Even if you never watched them, you would probably have seen the dozen memes Spongebob made, or know the preschool show and Disney mascots of Mickey Mouse, or the classic Door-to-Door chase trope that Scooby-Doo popularized.

I think part of it is the range in genre. Overall, Scooby Doo from the start to modern day has been- horror, and comedy. It just depends on how much of each that affects that particular incarnation. Think the classic series vs something like Zombie Island

I think one main appeal is that most of the time the "bad creatures" were just humans trying to make a scam, nothing magical or supernatural, so it feels like something to encourage critical thinking at a young or middle age as it reminds you to be skeptical about things too good to be true, or too scary for comfort. A healthy skepticism to have and apply to things like homeopathy, psychics, politicians, etc, so that is why it keeps a certain fondness. The real question to me is, why does Scooby Doo as a long lived animated series avoided the reputation of having "gone bad?" Other long living series like The Simpsons or Spongebob Squarepants very much develop such a reputation of living long enough to become the villain. Never Scooby Doo.

A possible answer is reboots vs single timeline. The Scooby Doo Franchise does reboots, which makes it easier to see changes to the characters as different versions of the characters. If you don't like certain changes, then you can ignore that reboot and know it is noncanon to your favorite reboots. Spongebob and Simpsons do a single timeline, so changes are often seen as exaggerating character traits or as worsening the characters. If you don't like the changes, then you'd have to wait until certain writers leave the series and hope that future writers don't keep said changes.
