The best thing about the lever gear shifter, is you can up and downshift with either side, making it perfect for one-hand acceleration on the straights, when you need to take a break. If they made these rims round, it would be a no-brainer combo to have both. All in all, worth every penny to buy new instead of used

i got this wheel too since well over a year. there were a lot of times where I wanted to buy a fancy, more expensive wheel, but the mclaren wheel is simply well good enough to justify another purchase. the shifters are great too. you can drive them one handedly :)

my shifters blocked after 3 months, I had to add lube everyday, I opened them, since I changed with aftermarket ones. They were also very hard and clunky. For me it's the worst part of the wheel.

I got this wheel to. And I got the shifter-up grade from Sim maker. And that makes this wheel very good for the money. And lot, lot quieter. I highly recommend it for this wheel. And yes you do have the l&R. 1,2,3

Nice review and a solid test period also 😁. I have a wheel with that shape, it is the first iteration of the Ferrari add on wheel for Thrustmaster, a bit of a toy compared to that. It came with a t300 rs along with the normal wheel. I did not use it for two weeks, that was wasted time, I much prefer it. Like deployed 👍

I love my v2. I got a nice sticker for it from lovely stickers, looks much better. Wheel hasnt skipped a beat at all, I have had mine almost 18 months.

These wheels are rubbish. If you have owned one for a few months of use look closely behind the wheel where the shifter pivot point is for cracking. Mine has been replaced by Fanatec under warranty due to a design fault which they have admitted to in writing and the replacement has cracked the same way. If you are thinking of Fanatec DONT. Look elsewhere. It’s not just poor quality but very bad after sales service and warranty.

I've had mine for two years. My solitary complaint is about the twister knob/button. Pressing it can often move the cursor to an option you didn't want. It can't be very annoying. But that's it. No complaints otherwise.

Hi Kireth, sorry this is a bit late to your video but i have decided to buy a new rim for my DD Pro. Now, it is between the GT3 v2 and the Formula v2.5. Now, almost all reviewers have gone for the GT3, so that was what i was going to do but then came across another video where the guy was saying the the rotary switches cannot be used in GT7. Could you please confirm this please as i cannot find any info to say that it has been patched in a update. Cheers.

Didn't care for the stock shifter. SimMakerz Magnetic shifter upgrade is amazing. Though with that and the QR1 it becomes quite expensive 😂 but I do love the result. Using the bottom paddles for looking left and right is a great idea. I use one for handbrake and will probably leave it that way for VR2.

I have the same rim, as anyone experienced the issue where the downshift does not bounce back? Sometimes even double shifts? I've already return the wheel once to Fanatec for a repair/exchange. It came back but the shifter have muted and the issue is starting up again...

Oh I dunno, I've got the mclaren v2 and the v2.5. I prefer the v2.5 for sure in terms of quality. The wheel length of 300mm is nice tho on the mclaren compared to the narrower v2.5.

It's the best value for money of anything in the Fanatec ecosystem IMO. I would like the shifters to not be quite as clunky but can't complain too much. Been using it for about a year now and haven't thought to change it

The price of the BMW GT3 wheel was a bit excessive. I bought this wheel and had a sticker made that looks like the BMW wheel. Added a official BMW logo and with the little bottom caps, I was able to re-create somewhat of the same colour layout as the real thing. Spend less then €350 bucks on something that pretty much looks like the €1500 one.

I have mine in mode D for GT7 so I can look left and right with the black paddles and can use left red toggle for MFT select with right red toggle being MFT value. Since the update, there is another option called 'other buttons.' Is there a way to select MFT values using those dials either side of the screen?

03:30 Kireth, the LSB & RSB doesn't even work on Xbox, (on PS, these buttons will return L3 & R3 which are the same as pushing down those sticks)... it has been a thing I have been trying to get Fanatec to fix for a long time. Some people at Xbox Reddit claims that Xbox does support it, so it should be up to the wheel developers to add support for LSB & RSB....

im bit surpraised if that plastic qr has not got broken during those 2 years personally went with bmw gt2 wheel just to get round wheel with metal qr. Price of csl wheels gets bit too expensive if bought with metal qr so I went bmw gt2 wheel and im happy with. Currently I am waiting for qr2 to drop before getting additional wheels

Exactly. But I want fanatec to make a mid range GT3 style wheel that is aluminum on both the wheel and quick release and have it be a similar price range of the formula V 2.5, but have it be a GT3 style wheel with a 300mm diameter. So far, fanatec only offers two different GT3 styled wheels and that is the entry level McLaren which is too cheap for my tastes, or the $1,500 BMW which is way too expensive for my budget. Fanatec is really missing out on a big hit if they do this, because the formula V 2.5 is one of their best sellers so people really like it, but the majority of people that buy it don't even use it for open wheel single seater race cars in their sim racing!! Most KZbinrs use it for GT3 racing, so this product I'm suggesting would probably be their number one best seller if they would release it.

On Playstation it's missing L2 and R2, which is infuriating for games like F1 where those buttons are hard-coded to Manu navigation. No fix for this except to also use a controller.

I play f1 with it but the worst part about this wheel is the fact of that you don’t get any display on the little digital screen that’s actually on the wheel when racing, it would be cool to see like the gear your in or the speed on there but I don’t think it’s possible

I actually prefer the WRC wheel, plus it's considerably lighter, the ffb from the 8Nm CSL DD is outstanding with this wheel. That said I do have button envy 🤣 but I like round wheels and I really like Alcantara, not so keen on the tyre tread graphic. The McLaren wheel does have an excellent feature set given the small price difference. If I wasn't so old I'd probably use the McLaren wheel, I think it's probably the one killer model in the range, like the CSL DD & CSL Elite V2's, can't see anyone not being pleased with their price to performance ratio.

​@@Kireth it's also good for using when someone else in the house is sleeping, my rig is upstairs and I was shocked at how much noise a good set of magnetic shifters transmits through floor. The shifters are very light, and when I first got it mis-shifts occurred on bumpy tracks. Took a while to get comfortable with them. 👍🏻

If you racing with VR this wheel is absolutly genius, you'll find all buutons blind. Compared to the esport F1-Wheel from Fanatec is the clear better choise for VR-Racing

The greatest thing about this wheel is it’s size. I don’t know why all of the F1 wheels need to be so small. Adults are the main demographic that can afford this type of thing so they should make them with the average adult male hand size in mind.

i dont use it. i had it and returned it. the material used for the grips feels cheap and is also absolutely not pleasant to touch at all. the hand gets super warm etc. also the shifting paddles feel SUPER bad. there is no pleasure using them, you dont get that satisfying click. for the amount of money it costs its a very bad quality wheel overall. i'd rather pay 100-150 more and get the formula v2.5 (with perforated leather grips)

@@Kireth well I really wish fanatec would come out with a 30cm diameter GT3 style wheel that is mid range quality and price range. By mid range quality I mean it being aluminum instead of plastic on both the wheel and the quick release. Because they have an entry level GT3 style wheel like this McLaren wheel, but the only other wheel in this style they offer is the BMW one that is $1,500 and that's unaffordable for me and a lot of other people. I'd want fanatec to do something similar with the Formula V 2.5 wheel in quality and price range, but make it a GT3 style wheel and a wider diameter preferably 30cm (300mm) It doesnt need to be modeled after a real life GT3 wheel either because the formula V 2.5 isn't modeled after a real wheel and it's one of their best sellers! All I want is a GT3 style wheel that is higher quality than the McLaren, but not unaffordable either. Fanatec doesn't offer anything like that right now.

These wheels are rubbish. If you have owned one for a few months of use look closely behind the wheel where the shifter pivot point is for cracking. Mine has been replaced by Fanatec under warranty due to a design fault which they have admitted to in writing and the replacement has cracked the same way. If you are thinking of Fanatec DONT. Look elsewhere. It’s not just poor quality but very bad after sales service and warranty.
