So EXO has an interesting story line. They are from Exoplanet and they have Superpowers and their enemy is the Red Force which is why you see the red color in a lot of things. In this video it shows the evil counterparts of EXO called X-Exo who you see them fighting. It is a long and complicated explanation because all of their music videos are part of the storyline but if you keep getting into EXO you will understand more as you go. You could watch guide video later if you want to learn more about their powers, etc.

This music video's production was on a whole different level...Billboard named this album "OBSESSION" as the best album of 2019...and said " this proves that the crown of k-pop is still safe in EXO's video"...Man I just can't get enough of these guys...they're literally angels for me and yes they have never dissappointed me once..!! They're fighting their counterparts. EXO vs. X-EXO Anyway, it has a storyline, and each exo member has their own superpower, that's why you'll see Chanyeol (the rapper) is using his power 'fire'. Their enemy is called "Red Force". The red force is the one who made the evil x-exo.

What you saw in the "Obsession" MV was that EXO's doppelgangers were actually their alter ego clones and they were using their superpowers, such as Chanyeol with his fire power, Sehun uses his wind power to deflect the arrows, Baekhyun uses his power of light as a saber in the fencing battle, and Suho (the one with red hair) controls water in the room with all the pictures of water, etc. to fight their other selves. You see the planet on fire in the end of the MV because it's supposed to show how the world is coming to an end as EXO (the good guys in all black) and X-EXO (the evil ones in the colorful outfits with crazy hair and makeup) battle for control, etc. (Each of the members are playing 2 different characters -- there are only 6 people in this MV.) X-EXO has been created by the evil Red Force and EXO and X-EXO are fighting each other. EXO are trying to prevent X-EXO from taking over and corrupting humanity and X-EXO are trying to stop EXO from finding the Tree of Life and putting the two halves back together and restoring peace, etc. To truly understand EXO you need to understand that EXO debuted in 2012. "Mama" is EXO's debut song and MV and It is how EXO was introduced to the world and it explains the group's concept -- and since then, everything SM does branches off from that storyline. From day one, EXO's concept is that they are aliens from planet Exo and they came to Earth with superpowers to protect the Tree of Life from the Red Forces. Each of the members has a superpower that is unique to them and almost every MV will have at least one, if not all of them, using their powers. Now you also need to know that In the beginning there was 12 members and they were split up into 2 groups EXO-K and EXO-M. EXO-K sang and performed their songs in Korean and EXO-M sang and performed those same songs in Mandarin Chinese. EXO-K had 6 Korean members and EXO-M had 4 Chinese members and 2 Korean members. So to really understand their full origin story you have to watch both the K and the M version of "Mama", because the EXO-K version focuses on the K members and their powers and the EXO-M version focuses on the M members and their powers. However, since then, 3 of the 4 Chinese members have left the group (short answer to focus on their solo work back in China) but there is still one Chinese member left, Lay. (Any performances or MVs you watch that took place prior to May 2014 you will see all 12 members.) However, now -- because they no longer have enough Chinese members -- they no longer do separate promotions, but they still produce almost all of their MVs and main songs in both Korean and Mandarin they just now promote all as one big group EXO with 9 members. However, in the "Obsession" MV there are only 6 members -- Suho, Baekhyun, Chen, Chanyeol, Kai and Sehun -- because 2 of the members -- D.O. and Xiumin -- are on hiatus during this comeback as they serve in the military; and due to the political issues between the Korean and Chinese government, Lay -- their Chinese member -- was unable to participate in activities with the group. So each new MV or project from EXO tells another part of the story, and over the years we fans have started to create a timeline and idea of what we think each part of the story is telling us. However, the introduction of "Obsession's" part of the story really threw all of our theories for a loop and it has made us question everything we have ever thought was happening in EXO's storyline. The MV starts out with the red and blue light because it's supposed to represent how EXO are currently battling with X-EXO and the Red Force for control. In EXO's MVs when you see red light this represents the Red Force and when you see blue light this is thought to represent EXO, so when you see red and blue in one scene or purple light -- red and blue mixed together make purple -- this is showing how the line between the two sides is being blurred and they are fighting each other, etc. Since "Obsession" some think maybe EXO has been trapped somewhere from the very beginning and it has been X-EXO that we have been following all along. But I think it's still even more complex than that. I think at times we have been watching EXO and at times we have been watching X-EXO -- with the release of "Obsession" we have only just discovering that the story hasn't necessarily been showing EXO the whole time. With the new information provided to us through "Obsession," it also makes me question how Lay fits within the X-EXO/EXO storyline. Maybe he is one of the members who has been able to break free or avoid the Red Forces' control. In Lay's solo MV for "Sheep," the Allen Walker relift version, we see everything burning outside as if an apocalypse is happening. Maybe "Sheep" is showing us the planet burning from Lay's viewpoint, like we see the world burning at the end of the "Obsession" MV. Also, I believe that the storyline in "Obsession" is connected to SuperM's debut "Jopping" MV storyline. If you pay attention to what Baekhyun and Kai were wearing in"Obsession," those outfits are very similar to the black outfits that Baekhyun and Kai are wearing in the "Jopping" MV. Kai is even wearing the same backpack parachute in both MVs. Which seems to be SM Entertainment's way of making sure we see the connection between those MVs. So it is thought that, as part of SuperM's storyline, EXO has gathered the best of the best of SM's groups -- EXO, Taemin/SHINee, NCT/WayV -- to help them battle the Red Force and maybe eventually take down X-EXO. Just like the Marvel Avengers come together as individual superheroes with their own storylines to create the Avengers and to fight evil, it is thought that SuperM is coming together to create the ultimate supergroup to help EXO fight the evil and corruption inflicted on humanity by the Red Force. Unfortunately, to make it even more difficult to understand, each part of the story is not necessarily in chronological order, so we as EXO-L (EXO fans) have to become detectives and analyze every aspect of all of their teasers, MVs, song lyrics, albums, concert VCRs, choreography and even live performances and piece it all together to understand the story behind it all. And not only are EXO's and SuperM's MVs and storylines connected, but pretty much all of SM's groups have storylines and concepts that connect together, which is designed to become part of one giant graphic novel or movie in the SM Culture Universe. To help you pinpoint the powers being used in EXO's MVs and live performances, here is a list of the members and what their special power is. EXO-K 💦 Suho (Kim JunMyeon) is the leader of the group and he is a lead vocalist -- his power is the ability to control water (Fun fact: Suho in Korean means guardian, as in the guardian of EXO. The meaning behind the song is fighting your inner demons. We all have good and bad in us. Here, EXO in the black suits are their good versions, the bad (who were called X-EXO in this concept) are in color. You’ll notice you often see both versions of each person together in a split screen, sometimes fighting themselves, to help make this point. If you go back and read the lyrics with this in mind, it all makes sense. My favorite detail is that at the very end they’re wearing black (good) but at the last second the evil inside makes them reach up and snap their own necks. Evil wins! 😈 At least that’s my interpretation.

Xiumin and D.O. were in their mandatory military service and Lay is in China. So there were only six of them. And the fire and all that in their mvs are all connected to their concept and that they actually have powers. EXO are aliens, from exo planet. To understand more, you may need to watch their old vids, when they were rookies, (they are already really good) the story is said in Mama then EXO-K and EXO-M. And from there, you'll start... Hey Connar, thanks for your great reaction. Same bro, when I got into Kpop in 2006, I fell into the Kpop hole and couldn't get out. I was so intrigued by the difference and production value of the mvs, the work they put into their looks and choreo, they are so entertaining....and like you said, Western music was getting really tired and underwhelming for me, except for a few favorites of mine like Post Malone. Kpop wants to entertain you with a wow factor, and you don't see this kind of production in other music. So it has caught on over the last few years, although Exo and many other groups and Kpop artists have been around for 10 years plus, so Exo are considered veterans since 2012, when their popularity exploded, worldwide. They did not promote heavily in the US back then, which I feel may not have been the right time to present Kpop idols during that era, America might not have been as receptive to other music as they were for Bts, when Bts hit America starting in 2018. But Exo has toured the world and back, including the States, because of such high demand to see them, having such a massive fandom worldwide, including the States, regardless of promoting there. As Exo started their rotational military service in 2019, at the time the "Obsession" album came out, 2 members were enlisted (D.O. and Xiumin) and the remaining 6 members did this album, and even toured as 6. Lay, the last Chinese member, has been in China since 2017, but still is a part of Exo, which is today a 9 member group. But until Lay can come back, if he chooses, we won't have the complete OT 9 group. D.O. and Xiumin has since finished their service and are back home. Suho (Sue-ho), Chen, Baekhyun and Chanyeol have enlisted. So Exo are broken up at the moment, with rumors that Kai will be leaving next, but no date given. All Korean males must do mandatory military service by the age of 29, so all Exo members have enlisted when their turn came. They all are a few years apart in age, Kai and Sehun being the youngest. So yeah, it sucks... But Connar, this mv "Obsession" is about fighting against your inner demons, bad temptations, something we all have to do. In the mv, the ones dressed in leather, with gory make up, are X-Exo, evil clones...and the members dressed in black attire, berets, are like the real Exo, revolutionary Exo, fighting against their dopplegangers. The tall yellow suit guy with scar on his eye is Sehun.. The devil hair guy in red, with his chest out, is Suho. The high note guy in red with makeup is Chen.. The rap section guy that came in hot was Chanyeol.... You know Kai..... (welcome to the Kai simp gang) And Baekhyun has the white hair, fencing. They are all battling themselves in the mv, or the bad influences of themselves. The album songs itself is incredible. They are r&b biased, but do all genres, so you never know what you're gonna get at any given time. Even within the same album. You should listen to the album, or do an album review reaction. Although Kai is the main dancer of Exo, he and all members can sing, as I see you have his album, bravo! But it is their vocals, from all 9 of them, that drew people to Exo in the first place way back in 2012. Maybe you could do the individual guides by Cesar Oh on each member. Yo I always LOVE to see more people reacting to EXO (and the solo/subunit releases)… they get especially impressive once you hit up the actual b-sides… if you like r&b then you’ll LOVE most of their music-my “best of” playlist for them on Spotify is over 3 hrs long because they have so much solid music❤️‍🔥 Of their title MV releases, my favorites: *in chronological order* -What Is Love (this one is only two members singing, but you will see Kai dancing😎) -History -MAMA -Growl -Overdose *all 12 original members are in those ones so you may be confused… stick with EXO-K videos, not EXO-M* Monster LOTTO Electric Kiss … those are just from my “best of” playlist-you may also like their other title releases, I just wasn’t a huge fan of Love Shot or Tempo or some of the other title tracks to be honest

Just watched this and I have a suggestion. Watch a lyric video where the members’ names are listed under their pictures. I’m sure in the other 80+ comments someone explained “the one with the great voice” isn’t Xiumin, he was in the army when this was released, or Sehun who is a lead rapper, lead dancer and sub vocalist, but Chen. If you enjoy his vocals he has released 2 solo ep’s. It takes a minute ( an expression where I’m from that means the opposite) to learn all the members, but before you know it you’ll be able to identify them by the sound of their voices.
