@@MementoMori-xx5qo well the economy isn't that a large factor on an emergency vehicle which is usually driven without looking at how much fuel it takes when responding to a call. Don't want to know how much our BMW takes when responding to calls while being in sports mode
@EnjoyFirefighting
@EnjoyFirefighting 4 жыл бұрын
@@MementoMori-xx5qo don't they have to put the purchase out for tender in the UK as well? Then a technically more expensive car might be even even cheaper than others when the manufacturer makes the better offer. We had the Octavias and Superbs once but by now most are replaced by the BMW X3, or by now the BMW 2 Gran Tourer. The Superb didn't have sufficient space to carry all the equipment which we technically have to have on the car all the time.

Isn't it the 220BHP TSI version, not the diesel stated in the video? That's what the website says anyway!

Hello my name is Alistair Young and I am a teacher from Bradford in England. I am creating an educational video for our young people to teach them about the importance of respecting and recognising the amazing sacrifices of our emergency services across the world. Please can I use some of this footage in my video with appropriate crediting? Thanks so much.

why aren't the fitted with green lights as well as blue to indicate theres a doctor on board?

Afaik doctor cars are no longer required to have green lights
@jamesevans938
@jamesevans938 5 жыл бұрын
patrick boyle because green lights are there for on call doctors that go to houses if a patient has a serious condition the doctors in these cars respond to the most critical Ill patients who need a doctor right there and then for instance if somebody gets stabbed in the heart and is so critical that they can’t wait to get to hospital for emergency surgery these doctors bring the hospital to the scene such as they can actually preform surgery at the scene for instance open up someone’s chest and stitch their heart up at the scene but another reason is that most of the time the critical care paramedic that assists the doctor in the air ambulance is the one who’s actually driving and anyway at the end of day just think of it of a critical care ambulance instead of as a doctor
@EnjoyFirefighting
@EnjoyFirefighting 4 жыл бұрын
@@jamesevans938 I'd try to avoid on-scene surgery as far as possible. Last time I had the large check on our emergency doctor car I wanted to replace needle and thread as it was expired, but the entire stock of needle and thread was expired in the same month, so it wasn't used a single time since it was delivered

In Holland we use Audi Q7 & Volvo XC90 for air ambulance car response.

Waterland In Beeld In Essex our air ambulance service Essex and herts air ambulance (Herts stands for Hertfordshire which is the county next door so they cover them have just bought 4 Volvos xc90s which they say can safely do 130 mph on motorways but these cars were only bought so they can offer a 24/7 service because they were only offering a 12 hour service because the helicopter can’t technically land at night only because of finding a suitable landing spot is much harder and they can only land at pre designated landing zones and the cars are there so they can respond at night and also they only actually take patients to hospital in the helicopter 20% of the time while 80% of the time the only reason why a air ambulance is called out is for the doctor and not because the patient needs to get to hospital very quickly while you might think that a doctor is called out because the patient is critical which is true but not critical enough to wear wether or not they go by road won’t make a difference

I get the point with the hazards for the helicopter during the night, and that they use a car instead, but whatfor a VRS in the middle of a large city. At what point can you actually run it at top speed in the city? Nowhere. Acceleration of the standard Octavia has a sufficient acceleration as well ... we had and still have them today, and in contrast to London we also have an area where you can bring the Skoda to its limit
@cameronallan5624
@cameronallan5624 Жыл бұрын
A good point. It’s also worth considering that some sections of London are open road especially at night when there is less other traffic around. You could absolutely blast down the west way at night.
@EnjoyFirefighting
@EnjoyFirefighting Жыл бұрын
@@cameronallan5624 there are lots of open roads, not to mention the mostly unlimited highways in Germany as well ... still you won't find e.g. a Skoda RS, Mercedes AMG, BMW M, Audi S etc in service at the emergency services. In fact, e.g. the Bavarian emergency doctor car is based on THE slowest BMW in the entire BMW lineup, still the acceleration (although being fully loaded) and top speed is more than sufficient. 235 kph / 146 mph is sufficient.

Graham1961 Maguire No, well done the patient doesn’t care. But they need a fast vehicle to get around, and LAA appear to be doing their bit for the environment by operating 5/6 on petrol. They’re high performance to TRY to match the helicopter

I know it may sound silly but why don't they give the crew night vision goggles
@jamesevans938
@jamesevans938 5 жыл бұрын
Josh Howard current rules mean you need a pre designated landing spot at night even for the air ambulance so while during the day they have alpha priority which means they get priority airspace and all other aircraft including military aircraft unless in a national emergency must wait till the air ambulance has passed over a airport and this also means that they can land anywhere even in someone’s back garden of its big enough regardless of if you like it or not but at night while they would have priority they can only land at sites that they know are safe and night vision goggles are extremely expensive and remember no air ambulance services receive government funding and are all charities while the nhs will pay for the paramedics wage the air ambulance charity has to pay for the doctors wage and everything else and the average job costs about £2000 and all the money is done via donations they simply don’t want to waste money on night vision because they will only take a patient to hospital in the helicopter 20% of the time
