I think the description of the dichotomy between butters and cartman was really well put. and it explains in some way why they work so well together on the show. Two different sides of the spectrum. This is a super underrated video

I feel that the reason we do selfless acts is also out of self-interest because WE want to be seen as good people and WE will feel like we're not if we don't do that particular thing. 13:14 Just because we like narcissistic characters, doesn't mean that we support their behavior, it's just entertaining to see a personality type pushed to the extreme. On the bad side, you have Alex Eggleston from YIIK who is a narcissist, but such a realistic and relatable narcissist that it's cringeworthy and you hate him because he reminds you of someone you know in real life. On the good side is Eric Cartman who is also a narcissist, but such an unrealistic and extreme one that you can't help but just laugh. Amazing video, made me think deeper about this great character. You've gained a like and a subscriber!

A philosophy professor told me an anecdote about Lincoln (which I don't know if it's true or not). He and a friend were one stopped in a carriage next to a sow and her piglets. One of them was crying because it couldn't get at a nipple to feed. Lincoln got out of the carriage, went over, and helped the piglet get at a nipple, at which point it suckled and was no longer crying. Lincoln got back in the carriage. His friend said: "that's the most selfless thing I've ever seen." At which point, Lincoln replied: "not at all; I was just bothered by the crying and wanted it to stop."

I love your thoughts & channel. True Detective caused me to do a deep dive into religious addiction. So much of my past life became clearer. Even as a parochial grade school student, I began to see & understand the dangerous rigidity, obsession & judgment. Thank you for sharing your discernment

Sorry for my bad English, it’s not my native language. Brilliant ! I think that the murder scene in tsst is very important for Eric and thank you for mentioning that. And your statement of why Cartman has this freedom is also amazing. I think that we all love this freedom because some where in our heart, we have this desire to do anything we want. The Butters and Cartman axis is really clear, and the use of creators’s words shows that you did a lot of digging! Recently I am rewatching South Park and also find sth new about how Cartman sees Kyle, a kid that is wealthier ,smarter and stronger than him. I think that Social state matters a lot in relationships of friends. And the jealousy Cartman has towards Kyle can explain many things that Cartman did to him. Also, Cartman’s desire for wanting a father figure that is strong, brilliant and can care for him shows frequently in many scenes, such as the singing scene in Sea People and Jewpacabra. And an interesting thing is, in some cases, Kyle unexpectedly took on this father role, provide support and help to Cartman. As to Kenny, Cartman and Kenny are best friends. I think it’s because Kenny is also in a low social state just like Cartman. Plus, Kenny doesn’t judge or follow Cartman’s ideas. Cartman gains some sort of freedom besides him. In recent episodes, the relationship between Cartman and his mother changed a bit when his mother had a job. The consequences catches him by living in a hotdog. And Cartman did seems to realize what he did to his mother. These are very interesting.

Side note, excellent use of the TV set to show clips. @ 1:50 KZbin's content moderation system is a bear, even when you're just trying to show clips. The TV frame image you have is a really good way to show the clips, give context, hide the blemish of SD footage, and not get dragged down by youtube's content moderation. I've seen a lot of channels do this badly, and I like the tastefulness of your "TV screen" frame.

Eric is and does everything bad we've ever thought of, he's just a collection of intrusive thoughts and chaotic deranged things that you would only think of as a joke, such as turning a kids parents into chili and eating all of the skin from a bucket of KFC. P.S. this video is surprisingly well made for someone with 750 subscribers, very nice :D

This video made me realize that one man's incessant never ending need to always be right, always be the genius, never admit to lying, never admit to committing crimes... and he's not far from being a ginger. And, he's running for president a second time. That's what a true to life Cartman looks like, and getting to spew his shit into a gold toilet doesn't somehow make that shit less disgusting.

Well, we like Narcissists, but only to a point, once you have been burned enough by them, you move on. Pretty much all of the kids will likely leave South Park when they're grown, and Cartman will be left alone.

I wouldn't say that Cartman is a narcissist or yet at least for a few reasons. Although he is very self centred in how he acts, he has quite a capacity for empathy when he truly knows something is up. A lot of what happens is plot convenience and if you look solely at him as a person he does have values even if 95% of the time he seems self centred. I was similar to that when I was younger and grew out of it, and for me it was bad ADHD and a conduct disorder. Id say it's likely that's the case for him and because as a child he wasn't instilled many values he seems narcissistic when in actuality it is something fairly common which children grow out of.

Calling Archie Bunker a bigot is simplicist. He is biased and mean but doesn't just hate because a race is bad. He gives reasons that we can all acknowledge are maligned and wrong but understand why he could be that way. He is a bigot that we can all agree is fucked up with his ideas but don't HATE him. So our slightly racist uncle or homophobic mom isn't a monster. Just a person we disagree with. This is much easier to accept than thinking our loved one is a monster.

And that's why when someone like Andrew Tate comes up and says something that everyone else is afraid to say, instead of letting him stay the prophet, someone more balanced and nuanced should seize the opportunity of the topic not being taboo anymore and assume this role instead.
