This mech is honestly one of the big reasons I have started to appreciate Capellans more and more as a faction. Especially in the later eras where they really get their combined arms doctrine onto another level

Ah the Xen Sheng version of the Victor. The Lu Wei Bing is a solid anchor for Capellan heavy cavalry lances, and the focus on survivability over firepower or stealyj armor makes it a great bodyguard, support unit, or brawler when you need devastating firepower. I can see it pairing well with most of the Capellan forces.

Something i have always said: Cappellans may be devious little penguin skinners, but they sure as heck know how to make mechs. The Raven is a fantastic EWAR mech, the Cataphract is a great generalist heavy, and the Lu Wei Bing is a fantastic sequel to the Victor, focusing mostly on the armored side of it. I bet you this will be in the Capellan Factoon pack, and i for one am definitely picking it up, especially because it can pretty easily be proxy'd as a victor for Succession Wars games. Now don't mind me as i go and make one with hardened armor. Great video as always!

Good call with the Plasma Rifle, it's not explosive and it fits quite well. Not as much long-range punch, but it is a brawler.

Sort of a successor to the Cataphract and Lao Hu mechs, which were good old tough lumps of metal. Course like most things Capellan, give it a long enough timeline and someone will either run out of c-bills, steal something vital or stab you in the back to make anything good, completely terrible.

The Lu Wei Bing is a nice assault mech with brawling in mind and your's is fun alternative. As for the Light PPCs, I'd rather have 2 Light PPCs than a single IS ER Large Laser with an additional DHS. Their overall range is about equal and damage is slightly better with 2 Lights and can play with a more precise control over heat output. Now if I had a Clan ER Large, that is a different story.

IIRC one of the big points of divergence in Btech history is in computing. Because in Battletech they go into Optical computers in a BIG way and have some breakthroughs in the late 70's which sets us off down a different technical path. Whereas we got a microchip tech boom and started making things smaller and more efficient, they didn't go that way due to optical computers and instead went down a path of more storage and processing power. There's not an internet as we'd know it on Earth by 2015 but rather you have a terminal and link it into a huge database with stuff on it. RE China, I'd assume they kinda kept going how they were in the 80s under Deng. The Lu Wei Bing's a good 'Mech, its basically an optimized Victor, the extra weight is used right, and its a good, solid upgrade for basically a Victor.

I like your take on it. The Plasma Rifle shines in the Lu Wei Bing because it's a brawler mech. Adding heat to a enemy mech while being well armored enough complicates things for the enemy.That Plasma Rifle paired with the LB 20 X I'd imagine someone trying it just blasting away battle armor

I ran a tabletop chaos campaign as the CCAF raiding a Republic of the Sphere world a year after Grey Monday. The capellans have a lot of fun mechs like the Dola, Ti Tsang, Duan Gung, and the Lu Wei Bing. Unfortunately for the Lu Wei Bing it had it's right torso slagged by a HAG40 during the retreat off planet.

@@nialltealeaf275 Basically. Gauss tech scatter weapons. Coming in sizes of 10, 20, 30, and 40. No solid shot, but when the second smallest already rivals an LB20X AC, you can learn to "make do." And outside of heavy artillery weapons, the HAG40 is tied with the MRM 40 for the most damage that can be achieved by a single weapon in a single turn of fire. And unlike MRM's, there isn't a penalty to hit for HAGs.

I do like the Capellans not for their leadership, but for the dogged determination of the CCAF. In a weird way, I’ve associated the Victor with both the CCAF and the AFFS, so seeing the Lu Wei Bing as a sort of derivative of that mech makes sense. I have not ran one of these yet, and not sure If I want to invest in a model since I dont play much Dark Age or IlClan era battles. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the coverage of this mech. Xin Sheng!

The House Liao sourcebook mentions that the founder of the family, Elias Liao was born into a family living in the “Hong Kong Free State” but was displaced by an invasion of Hong Kong by the Chinese Republic in 2170 and became an extremist political figure who eventually had to flee Terra to avoid his enemies. There’s not too much else on China up until the Lu Wei Bing entry

LBX 20, Angel ECM, and an armored cockpit. I'm sold. Those three items make for a nasty tough mech. An armored cockpit has saved my mechwarrior countless times. It's why he's survived so long in our Battletech campaign.

This is my most recent "Big Bad" in a narrative game that uses a Capellan OpFor. They make some super unique mechs that are east to paint. Also they have a lot of tech to teach extra rules layers to newer players.

Hello Frog. I never used the Lu Wei Bing Mech, myself. Although, I did face it in battle with my Mercenary Unit, the Ghost Lions Legion(s). In the resulting battles, I was able to capture, or salvage, several of this Mech type over a fair period of time, during several battles on a limited number of planets. The result was my Unit owning five such Mechs, most of which were reassembled from parts salvaged from the battlefields. Although I was able to 'kit them out' with their 'usual' weapons loadouts, I felt that the Mech could be improved. Thus, the Techs and Astechs of the Legions went to work. The result was not my usual 'redesign'. It is possible to remove the MML and its ammo, which frees up just enough tonnage to emplace a Targeting Computer onto the Mech. The TC is located in the Left Torso, and assists the Light PPCs and the AC-20 to hit more accurately. Even though the removal of the MML does lower the Mech's Alpha Strike potential, the additional accuracy to hit targets, seems to be an overall net benefit that is well worth the time and expense. Others may disagree on this point, but I have used such 'altered' Lu Wei Bing Mechs in combat, and I have found the additional accuracy to be a real 'game changer'. The TC, allowing for a -1 on the 'to hit' roll, or a +3 penalty for an 'aimed shot'(not including targeting the Head), can swing a battle in one's favor quite nicely. So, the LN-9GL Lu Wei Bing does have a place in the ranks of the Ghost Lions Legions, and will remain so, until a 'better' design can be found and used to replace it. Since the alterations are so 'minor', anyone can use whatever method they choose to replicate my design, which, as you can see, only replaces one weapon system and its attendant ammo, for a piece of equipment that makes the rest of the untouched weapons more accurate overall. Keep on making videos, my friendly amphibian. I enjoy them, and I like your tone of voice and well-mannered presentation of the details of the subject material(s). You keep on making videos, I will keep watching them, and commenting. Usually with memories of my many decades of combat experience on table tops, or my 'take' on additional variants. Words to remember: NEVER trust a Capellan. Always hire any 'Cat-Girl' with ANY Mechwarrior training (they are great for unit morale boosting). ALWAYS watch out for Comm-Star chicanery.

@@ALV694 : The GL, aka: The Ghost Lions Legions, are NOT a permanent part of the Magistracy of Canopus. They are a Mercenary unit of 'Legions' that are, in themselves, the size of reinforced Regimental Combat Teams (RCTs). Canopus, however, is a favored trade partner of the Stygian Compact, which is the 'home' of the Legions. This being true, and due to prevailing trends in the Compact, Cat Girl Mech pilots are avidly sought out and recruited for the Legions. This trend is ongoing, since every unit that has a Cat Girl has higher morale. Cat Girls are cute, often playful, and always fight with tenacity and high energy. They are loyal to a fault to their new unit, and their fellow soldiers are well motivated to fight alongside them. Over time, many Cat Girls have married various members of the Legions. The resulting children are all human, since the 'Cat Girl' thing is totally a matter of cybernetic enhancements, and not the result of some genetic change. Those children are fully aware as they grow up that their parent was cybernetically enhanced, and given the opportunity to be enhanced themselves when they mature, should they choose to do so. Relations with Canopus are firm, friendly, and profitable for both polities. Enough so, that Cybernetic Enhancements are somewhat 'common' in the Compact, and that one cannot rely upon the expectation that the pilot you face in battle is an 'unaltered' human when facing Compact forces. The Compact actively recruits various teachers and educational administrators from Canopus. The Compact medical field is now on a par with that of Canopus, even though some cybernetic devices are still the sole property of Canopian manufacturing (probably due to licensing issues).

My initial impression: It's a Capellan knockoff of the Victor. After reading up on it: It's a Capellan knockoff of the Victor that fixes the Victor's biggest problems, and all it took was 5 tons and an assload of C-Bills. I would consider replacing the LB 20-X with a Heavy PPC and capacitor, and several more heatsinks, and probably swap the Light PPCs for Medium Pulse Lasers and more heatsinks.

Love the Lu Wei Bing, I much prefer it to the Victor-though I might've swapped out the support weapons myself, like the Light PPCs for an ER Large Laser and the MML-5 for a Streak SRM 6 Still, the Light PPCs and MML-5 aren't terrible for long-range punch, it's just you could do a lot of other things with 11 tons of ammo and weaponry.

One thing in BT is survivability. Many have the punch at that cost of survival. For lights speed is their survival. Mediums is more the grunt force to take some hits and i do mean some. Heavies are where it gets interesting. They have the firepower to take out a light in one shot and mediums with two well placed ones. The question there is how much do you push it. Assaults are meant to survive that's why they're usually armored up. That said, cause they are assaults the weapons used can cause that survival into question with not enough armor. How many times have we've seen monster firepower mechs with paper thin armor because of this. That's where the Lu Wei Bing is superb. Maybe it doesn't have the firepower of a Battlemaster. It also doesn't have the heat issues. It can also take hits and keep firing on target. In the end the other mech is a smoldering heap on metal. While the Bing gets to go home, a bit beaten up but it can fight another day. That's always a big plus for any MechWarrior.

When this started my first thought was kind of like yours; 'it's a Victor on steroids'! I kind of like the load out; with the MML's, you can mix and match all of the new SRM/LRM ammo types(Augmented Thunder mines and Tandem SRM's anyone)? With the LPPC's, you still get decent damage at long range. As a Davion player, I could see salvaging one and re using it.(Unlike the Cataphract, I hate that thing. Just get a Marauder).

House Liao is the best house to hate on. But they have some of the most recognizable mechs. The Catapult being the prime product. And also my personal favorite mech, the Vindicator is a Capellan design, and one of my favorite IS battle Armor the Shen Long. Also it’s a bigger Victor! The Lu Wei Bing hits all the buttons.

I'm definitely a fan of this design. And the MF variant. And, as I'm sure you've come to expect, I've created my own The LN-ISM utilizes Mixed Tech, though Clan tech is only seen in the weapons. It retains the LB-20X, though it's now a Clan version, and now has 5 tons of ammo. A trio of Clan Medium Pulse Lasers are its only other weapons, as the Lu Wei Bing now mounts 5 Improved Jump Jets, one extra DHS, and another half ton of armor.

I respect the thorn battlemech arm layout, especially when thats its main gun because less moving parts means easier repairs, especially on local garrisons... then again this is a heavy cappy mech, its almost always gonna be found on a response team flown in from off planet. That said though if they can set it up in a city... give this thing a lancemate that can crit fish and this is a monster.

Ok, my first thought after seeing the Mech Picture was: A Victor with the right arm of a Jaegermech. xD But sure it is more heavy with a more heavy gun in it. It is a nice Configuration, but as an alternative, I could think of it as a sniper mech too, with a Gauss Weapon instead of the LBX AC20 und a Target Computer. And if this would be a Mech in a Mechwarrior Game, I would give it Advanced Sensors too, so it would see the Enemy, before they can see it. ^^ Damn, a Lance of them, 2 close combat and 2 snipers, could really be a nightmare for some enemys. xD

I'll be honest, the MML 5 feels inadequate, and probably the feature I'd most want to replace. More armor seems like a good option of a field refit. Or possibly pulse lasers to keep infantry and battle armor at bay without needing ammo. Your refit feels very right for the Confederation

Solid mech. The variants loss of the MML launcher denies me the use of flare rounds for night combat or tandem charge warheads or smoke for the SRM ammo. A little respect for the useless LRM-5 launcher that everyone likes to strip out. Most players play at day times.
