When I was 12 Me and my dad was driving down the road from the groceries. Then I saw it, a 97’ honda civic ek9 type r, and when it drove by, I just fell in love, you know? the “fizz”. So when I passed my driving school, I bought a used 96’ ek4 1.8 ltr non VTEC busted up civic. So,for about 5-6 years I was fixing it, tuning it. First I painted it, then engine swap it, then fix the interior. My classmates would make fun of it saying that it is “unpractical” or “idiotic”. But, to me, it’s freedom, freedom from hate, freedom from Depression (funny thing is, that’s how my depression faded). To all car guys/girls: *Treat your car, like it is part of your family* .

Cars are my reason to be successful, I don't care about a big house, I just want cars! Edit: I see that many love cars as much as I do, and even more. A month ago I just bought my first sports car at 20 years old, a Toyota MR2 1991 (3S-GTE Swapped). I had a problem with it a week after getting it, turned out to be dead capacitors in the ECU, could not drive it for a week. Now I have a problem that I think is the TPS (throttle position sensor). I am saying that because it can get irritating to drive your old beloved car around and seeing the check engine light turn on, and when you're not a mechanic, and young like me, it can be a bit challenging sometimes. But the challenging part is exactly why you should get an older car (if you can afford it, it's more expensive than you might think, not gonna lie) and experience the pure joy of driving of an older car with less electronics. As many say: It's not miles per gallon that matters, it's smiles per gallon.

@@yahkub119 and cars as a hobby is not acceptable? Every hobby will be expensive if you make it. First of all it is no-ones business where someone spends their money if they earned them. Also cars make many people happy or people like tinkering with them. Many things can be considered a waste of money, but if someone likes music instuments they may spend thousands on one guitar only. If someone likes just going to bars with friends and spending a lot of money there, that can be thought of as a waste of money as it is maybe even hundreds each time for just one day's worth of fun. But if that makes them happy, it's alright, as long as it is not a problem for them. With the bar example, it is kind of a waste of money, but if they can afford it, who cares? You're still having fun and making memories with friends. Or the guitar. With say, 5000 euro you could get a car, pay rent for a while or just save up. Some buy a fancy guitar, or amplifiers, speakers and other equipment. Some guitars can easily be 10000 euros or even more, i do not know much for guitars but if you are passionate about it, you do not care. If I had the money and wanted to spend 20k on a car, that could be considered stupid by someone as you could get an apartment for that kind of money or furniture maybe. Or just save up for something, pay bills or rent, start a business or whatever. But if i had worked hard for that 20k with a specific car in my mind, i would probably get the car instead of for example the apartment. Some people get expensive pc's maybe even upwards of 10-20k if they really want to. Or in your comment, someone fixes up their golf or fiesta everyday, why should they not? If they like fixing up cars, that's cool. Or what if they want to just build a sleeper? Some people just love working on cars, some want to drive, many of us like both. Some can only dream and some are working hard for their passion. If you do not get cars as a hobby yourself then why are you talking shit about it? Like if you loved playing guitar and because someone just likes cars on technology or whatever just were like oh guitars are a waste of money or whatever. And "you are a pussy that cannot even think of one sentence when talking to a random girl and you just sit there playing with your guitar and she's gonna lose her shit and just fall in your arms". Just grow the fuck up, if you do not like the same hobby as someone else, dont go out on youtube comments being like "oh cars are shit because they can get expensive why i don't like it because everything has to be cheap or easy as i can't afford to buy anything and i can not make anything myself like fixing a car". Most people just drive and build cars as it is just really fun and a great hobby or even lifestyle. Car guys mostly build the cars for their own enjoyment, why would anyone build a car for other people to like. Probably any car guy wants to some day have a car to always look back on when getting out of it and always being happy to see it again, or loving to hear the car running or just wanting to have a nice drive on some country roads or a mountain. Some may already have that car that they love and be driving them. Some may have many and more coming, always on another project. And no matter how much money or time you sink into that, only thing that matters is that you loved every second of it. But as with any hobby, there will be always that someone who doesn't like the same things and is talking shit for no reason, saying it is a waste of money and time. Technically every hobby is a waste of those, but if you enjoyed the time you had doing those things, was it really a waste of time?

I wasn't a "car guy" before I got my license. But after I got my license many years ago, I finally understood. I finally understood why people like car so much. Like you said, it's about freedom. It's about gripping that steering wheel and knowing that you can go anywhere. Knowing that you can wake up in the middle of the night, and just go for a drive at a twisty back road and enjoy the breeze, the music, the vibration of the road. My first car was a Prius handed down by my dad. Yeah, I knew it sucked, but I still loved it because it was my first car. Because I now had the ability go anywhere I wanted. As stupid as it sounds, I was really sad to sell that Prius. My current car is the FRS, and I absolutely love it. It was a car that as soon as I saw it, I knew I wanted it. and driving the FRS, I understood what my driving style was. As soon as I gripped that wheel and drove home from the dealership, I knew it was worth it to save up for that FRS. I understood what I wanted from the car and like you said, our cars are our identity. In a sense, my FRS is a reflection of myself, and my personality. It's not a fast car, and sure, there are other cars that are better than my FRS, but my FRS is mine and I take pride in that. Before I knew it, I loved talking about cars with other people, I would stand in a parking lot, and would talk about cars with other car guys. As cliche it is to say, my life is boring without my car. It really is. Don't get me wrong, I am about to get married and have an exciting life but driving was always there when I was feeling depressed and will always be here. I have clinical depression and whenever I would feel depressed and empty, I would call up couple of friends, and go to a back road and it never fails to put a smile on my face. Maybe others could share their stories as well?

I totally understand man! I didn't know much about cars a few years ago. I had just turned 19 and passed my permit test, so I was looking for a car (preferably automatic) My mom owned nothing but manual transmission cars so I didn't have much of a choice but to try. I resisted the idea of getting a manual because I found it annoying. But one day I was hanging out with my best friend and she mentioned that her mom went to check out this car but the seller wouldn't accept her offer, so curiously I ask to see it. I meet the seller and he pulls up in this old hyundai elantra and immediately my eyes widen. I talk to the guy and he shows me the inside and I noticed it was a manual! So I called my mom over and she test drove it. I don't know what it was but I knew I had to have this car. I buy it on the spot and I was determined to learn how to drive stick. By the time of my driving test I was capable of driving confidently on my own. I would go on late night drives with my friends around town and even drive to New York City for fun. That was about 2 years ago and I'm still driving her on a daily. I have thought about modding but I haven't done anything except put on some aftermarket rims/tires, a hood bra, and a stage 1 sport clutch. She's been so reliable that I don't want to mess that up. But I currently have my eyes on the Genesis coupe. I love talking about cars but there's a lot that I don't know and I won't front. I spot some rare hatchback models of cars that I would have never thought had them and I get excited spotting them and other iconic and non iconic sports cars.

The car that you drive opens its soul to you. She tells you about all her flaws, her weak spots, where she excels, and when she works best. Car guys are the ones that listen to what she has to say and helps her hit higher highs through proper care and upgrades to what she already has. That moment you take the keys when you buy her you have to listen. For a little while she will need to get used to you, but then, whether it be 1 or 1,000 miles down the line, she will start whispering to you. She will tell you things about her previous owner, things like where she hits the hardest, and where she needs a little help. The older the car the more character she has, the more stories she has to tell. Car guys aren't the only ones who listen. No anyone can listen to her talk, however... Car guys are the ones who listen to her and *talk back.*

I actually look back and think those speed cars like the Bugatti's and Koenigsegg's are cool still to this day, but they aren't as cool as they were when I was younger. In the end I agree, cars are such a vast escape from the reality and what people think is right in this world and that escape helps many find there true inner workings to there selves. For me it has always just been the feeling of owning and maintaining a car, the responsibility, and the customizing, to suit your style and needs. That's why I prefer getting an older car, and fixing it up.Once you get it running the way you want it, that kind of satisfaction you get from knowing your hard work has not been in vain...it's really great. Also, cars are usually present in many pivotal moments of a guys life: dad taking you to school, getting your license and you first car, picking up a girl for a date from her house, stuff like that.A car really is an extension of your personality. For example, my cup of tea is modified economy japanese hatchbacks, I like the feeling of making a car that is not traditionally "cool" or "mean" be as "mean" and "cool" as you can (I admit, I am kind of a ricer, I dig cosmetics...).I guess it's a sort of wholesome childhood thing, when even simple stuff like a pen could be cool by drawing on it with a sharpie.Something like that.Everyone has their own little thing they love about cars. 🚗

"something to focus on, and escaping the mundane reality" he said something like that, and that is so god damn true. random people at a parking lot would not connect to each other at all if there wasn't something to focus on for each person. if they weren't into cars and you had a bunch of random people standing in a parking lot, people would simply not communicate with one another because of a wall or barrier that blocks people from wanting to try and meet and talk to one another. cars are great.

You know, that's the question I always ask myself. This is how I see it: Cars are more than just a machine that gets you from point A to point B. It's a living, breathing beast that's just waiting to be awoke and to tear up pavement. Just knowing that you can put passion and love into building something that can be so powerful it can tear your house off it's foundation is absolutely amazing. Something about cars just makes me feel so alive.

@@anasubia4346 There is certainly a "freedom" in driving, but unfortunately it comes from a lack of alternative transportation. In a place like South Korea, Japan, Germany, or France, you can just hope on a bullet train or bus and get around the country. In the US, it's hard for me to get to a store without a car. Old American cities were built around trams and trains. But they were bulldozed in favor of cars. Now you really need to be able to buy a $3-8k car just to get to a job, to get groceries, or get to a doctor's appointment. So there's freedom, but also a requirement to participate, and it's an expensive one.

it took me long to realize i was a car guy. i was probably into my 20's. but the signs were there from an early age: -i stomped my brother in every racing game ever since i was 5 years old. -i really enjoyed racing games. -i liked riding cars. -i sat in my mom's car pretending it was a lamborghini diablo VT. -i looked forward to a license, imagining what would be like to actually be at the wheel on the streets. -i freaking rolled my jeep without a seatbelt, got tossed 5 meters into the air, landed 40 meters away, almost got crushed by it when it stopped on its wheels just short of flattening me, and that didn't put a dent into my will to drive. -then around 2004 i started to get more and more into racing games and simulators, to compare car stats, to benchmark them. -this was also the year i finally took my license. aced the test. -started going out at night to benchmark real cars. i just had to know their 0-100kph times and their top speeds. -then it finally hit me: i really love cars, not just car games. then around 2012 i think my love for cars overtook my love for games. everytime me and my cousin (who lives about 800km away) meet, we go around at every dealership to look at cars and sometimes test drive them. his current hyundai santafe v6 3.5 is even a result of that. though he's more of a confort / safety freak and i more into performance.

I think there are a bunch of different reasons: -Cars symbolize travel, exploration and movement. Something that is part of human nature, travelling and exploring the world around us, searching for new places to discover and explore. A car can be like our companion on our adventures. -A lot of people have nostalgic feelings for certain cars, maybe because we often saw that car in our childhood, or we have personal memories of riding around in our parents car, or maybe even just nostalgia for a certain decade or style that is associated with certain cars of that style and time. Personal memories can also be connected to cars we had in certain parts of our life. -Cars are works of art, like other things created by humans. Think about that many car designers spend a lot of time trying to create something aestetically pleasing. And don't forget all the work that is necessary to build a car. -Cars are like your little personal space you can bring everywhere, like a tiny home on wheels. Especially if you are exploring a new and distant city where you don't have any other personal home, your car becomes like your little movable room. -Cars are a personal expression of you as a person, they can become a part of what you show to the outside and part of your personality.

Hi, I'm Sam. 11 years old. I'm French and I love cars since I was 3! (Btw, sorry for my english) My dad was a great car guy, he loved Coupés and Sedans. He owned a BMW M3 E30 and he was proud of it. I'm now a Bimmer lover because of my dad 😄. I loved playing GT4 and GT5 on our PS2 and PS3. I became a car guy by going around my city (Lyon) in my dad's E30 M3. He accelerated EVERYTIME 😂. I hope when I'll be a dad, my son(s) will love cars and be like my daddy... I hope... 😔 Edit : hey guys... 1 year after I posted this, I will edit this comment. My english improved since this time :)). I'm 12 yo now, still a bimmer fan but I'm more of a Porsche fan. Few months after I wrote this comment, I was with a friend of mine and he had a beautiful 911 964 Carrera 4s. This moment was the one that changed me. I was more interested to cars more than ever. This was because he explained me how he'll mod his 964 and everything about Porsche, the Flat-6 etc.... My dream now is to go to my favourite track. I know the Green Hell as the back of my hand, every corner, apex are no longer a secret for me. Everyday, I start Gran Turismo Sport and drive two or three laps on the Nürburgring. I did a lot of GT3 races (even did a 6 hours long race on Assetto Corsa with many ppl) and I really enjoyed it. See you maybe in 1, 2 of 10 years :D

I love cars, allways have. When i was a toddler, barely able to speak full sentences i would learn the different brands of cars based on their head and taillghts and i’d say ”audi” ”bmw” ”chevy” and so on. I love cars more than anything, my first intrests and memories as a child was cars. I still have several boxes on top of boxes filled with toy cars. It’s the sound, the feeling of speed, the adrenaline, the turbos whistling and the superchargers blowing, sticking out of the crowd, people snapping their necks turning around as my v8 roars, the customizable freedom, the freedom to go wherever i want whenever i want and the community. Wherever you go there’ll allways be car people around. Thousands of different styles, builds and ways to do things. The infinite room for improvements, the fact that there’s allways something new to learn about, the satisfaction of building an absolute monster of a car or the greatfulness you receive from fixing someone elses car. The freedom, the freedom to do anything and go anywhere. It’s very hard to explain why i love cars so fucking much. It’s my life, it has allways been, it’s been my main i trest since before i was even aware of it. I just love it, it’s a lifestyle. Hell i’ll preffer nice cars before a house because, well, you can live in a car but you can’t race a house. I’d probably buy a fat garage with all the tools in the world and live in it when the time comes. Cars are my life and has allways been, it’s something special about building my Volvo 940 T5 so strong and stable that i can beat and Audi RS7 in a dragrace. It’s an unbeatable feeling beating the driver of a $100k car made to go fast with a boxy old Volvo. The looks of their faces and the pure confusion is priceless. My garage and my cars are my safespace, where i can be me without people questioning it, my own little piece of the world. I love cars more than anything, it is my life.

Don’t know what it is, why I do it, but the thought of cars and the very feeling of being behind the wheel sends tingles down my spine, sometimes bringing me to tears because being 16, I can’t actually drive yet, but the thought of it is jsut so overwhelming and exciting, freedom in your own machine and a part of society and as you said, a part of society

good luck :) At my situation, i am 15. I have a friend who is like me, loves japanese cars. The rest of the company is just into football and basketball. When they talk about these sports is just so boring. I'm dreaming of first getting a job that pays really well and then get a 1970 Mustang Mach 1 or Boss 429
@therealcat57947 жыл бұрын
RyanHamiltonEtc. The 350z is my dream car, I love how its performs and its looks. The one thing that sucks is the fact that I'm 12 years old so it'll be a while until I'd be able to drive a car

RyanHamiltonEtc. I'm 15, I'm turning 16 in 3 months and I can't wait until I start working because I'm going to buy an S13 as my first car, I know 240sx's aren't really reliable but I don't give a damn, my older brother is getting one too, so we'll be the 240 Bros 😂

Am I the only car guy here who does not have a car. This video almost made me cry. I wish I had a car, my parent can't support me in my passion about about cars and it made me sad just sitting watching other people build their own car. Going to car shows alone because you don't have any friend in the car community. It just made me feel bad. 😔😣

It happens in the world. And, well, if you're still looking to your parents, that's not how it's going to happen. Find someone local to learn the wrenching from, if you aren't already putting your payheck to all living expenses, find work. It'll be harder for kids these days, but just get experience, get driving,, in either order. Also , seek out like older shadetree mechanics ....or other mechanics, there'll be less posturing and possibly someone'll see the love of it if you're ready to learn and they have a chance.

The best time I ever had sprung from cars. Whether it was the conversation my dad and I had in the truck on the way to school or seeing my grandfathers racing alfa. Or even when I missed a slide and drove up a berm and tore up my front bumpers. Fixing that was one of the most fun projects I’ve done. Learning how to do body work and helping my friend fix his Miata after he drifted right into a barbed wire fence. Or driving over to his house to just drive around in his vw that he had just put coilovers on. Some of the best most enjoyable and stress free moments come from cars. I owe the car community everything.

Damn... the first thing that got me into cars is hotwheels, loved to collect them when i was really young, and then came one of my still favourite games, burnout paradise, I used to stay up all night collecting those special time-trial cars and doing those hard-ass challenges. I am so glad that I bacame a part of this amazing community because of these two things, and I just really hope that this community will not stop growing.
