Seeking pleasure is another form of staying away from what is and seeking refuge in some form of fulfilling future. The entire suffering of humanity and everlasting growth of the ego lies in time and staying away from what is.

Indeed. The problem seems to be that if there is no time, no yesterday or tomorrow, and I die to everything every moment, then I am nothing. I retain and accumulate nothing, I don't accumulate a family, friends, country, skills, memories, pleasure etc. This apparently terrifies the brain. I believe its the only way however. Otherwise each accumulates in his own way and the result is divsion in a million ways and chaos.

i ate 4 cookies & a pint of ice cream then i opened youtube & this video was at the top of my recommended videos.. i am learning so much about my mind recently talking to therapist and so on.. my desire for food when i do not need it has been one of the hardest things for me to overcome. i think its because in previous generations it was harder to find food so we have evolved to eat as much as we can when it is available but now its always available.

I found what K said about the cultivation of pleasure as a pattern a pretty damning reality check. If we are momentum-based creatures, we do have this capacity to observe our actions in the moment we notice ourselves doing them, yet never change.

You know what you need to do. And you know it's not watching more videos. But you don't like what you're supposed to do and it's not about liking or not liking it

A person who is continually seeking pleasure is a person continually in sorrow, for pleasure contains sorrow by its very nature; Joel Kramer 'The passionate mind'

Pleasure does not contain sorrow. Sorrow is the trigger and we try to relieve it, which is far from being a „pleasure“. To get pleasure is to be pleased and it would be the end of it. But it is not. So, it is only relieve. We’re continuously in sorrow just because we’re born. Born in sorrow and need.

We persue pleasure cause we know what fear and hurt feels like.

I heard how my ego-self feeds itself but, how joy comes from a different place.

Pleasure has an external or thought driven source and relaxes the nervous system, ie makes it less tense. At a deep level links to continuation of survival. Joy comes from within and radiates out, it is beyond survival, it just is, has an eternal quality to it.
